"So, this can be either a canon au or modern or futuristic or anything...but Marcus is injured as a child (like when he's five or six), so his dad hires/buys teenage!Esca to help Marcus. So esca kind of resents him at first, but Marcus is so sad and pitiful and sweet that Esca can't help but sort of adore him. So Marcus gets piggyback rides and Esca becomes pretty much his only friend because Marcus gets alienated because he's rich/a gimp/whatever.

Seeing Esca, wearing some baggy sweats, smiling and talking to somebody excitedly, looking all blond and delicate, Marcus can't suppress a snort.
Esca is not amused. He takes off his shirt (tattoos!) and proceeds to show Marcus his place.
Marcus learns his lesson and they become best (butt)buddies. Well, maybe not immediately :)
