Sunshine!
Question for anyone who has seen the film "Sunshine": I noticed what seemed like four Kubruck references, and I'm wondering if anybody else got that:
1. When Mace, Harvey, and Capa jettison themselves from Icarus I to Icarus II and Harvey misses the airlock, flying off into space and freezing solid, I was reminded of the scene in "2001: A Space Odyssey" where one of the astronauts gets frozen in deep space.
2. When Pinbacker shuts down Icarus and the computer protests as it shuts down, voice getting lower and lower in pitch, it was similar to the scene in "2001" where Hal is being shut down by Dave.
3. Capa clings to the backside of the bomb as it plummets towards the sun. Anyone remember the end of "Dr. Strangelove"?
4. The very last scene, where we see Capa's family on Earth in the snow... there were three large black monolith-looking things. I cannot see how that was anything but a "2001" reference. Remember that the beginning of "2001" is called "The Dawn of Man." Come on.
