Observations of a Cynical man.
"My Pet Dinosaur" - Next Tuesday at 9 on BBC2. It is pretty safe to say that Horizon are scraping the barrel a bit with this one. The advert states, 'new questions, new answers'. What if the meteor which wiped out the dinosaurs had missed? This is the question that apparently NEEDS answering. For a start it's less of a question and more of a supposition (and an arrogant one at that, assuming it was in fact a meteor which wiped out the dinosaurs, which has never been conclusively proven). Secondly it's a question that nobody older than 6 is actually asking and, so, doesn't really need an answer, as most six year olds forget what they've been told the next time they encounter sugar. It should probably be called "CG technology we paid a lot for and need to use on account of the fact that walking with dinosaurs was shit and nobody watched it" - although that's not as catchy.
Do you think that Take That intentionally set out to rip off ELO with their latest slice of catchy nostalgia pop, or would I be crediting them with too much intelligence.
Comic relief is in full swing. Not for another week, we're already getting a whole host of 'fun' television programmes where z-grade celebrities self-consciously make arses of themselves on slick versions of shows that were already shit to begin with in an attempt to get us to part with our cash. Question is, why don't they part with some of theirs. And no, waving their fee does not count because what they consider work, most would consider a good night out. I've said it before and i'll say it again, presenting television and/or radio is not work. It's not even close. Now before anyone thinks ill of me, god forbid, I do give money to charity and consider it the duty of those with wealth (not that i'm wealthy mind you) to help those less fortunate yada yada yada, I just resent being told that I have to give money on this one day and feel forced into watching shit television or partaking in a wacky scheme.
