1.) Glee
My enthusiasm for Glee has decreased quite a lot over the last couple of months to the point where I actually hate watching the show. It's just not written all that well and the songs are not that good either (I still like to listen to them though and feel guilty about it). While I have been thinking about dropping the show after the NPH/Joss Whedon-episode, I must admit that I enjoyed last week's episode a lot. While the music was not all that great, I thought that the episode had quite a lot of funny scenes. I loved Sue's music video and the fact that they once again showed her with her sister, because she kind of annoys me when she is just portrayed as the villain of the show. Every time when they show her soft side however it makes her bad side more tolerable. I loved Rachel's music video as well, because she was so goofy in it. Didn't like the contrived drama concerning the boys in her life, but the music video was a riot. Also, a reason why I don't like Lea's and Kristin Chenoweth's singing: I hate that kind singing that includes screaming. It makes my ears bleed. Which is why I am usually happy when Lea does not sing (which sadly happens rarely). Brittany and Santana remain the saving grace of the show for me. They're hilarious and their off-screen Lesbian relationship makes them even more awesome. I like that Will now has the reputation of a whore on the show, simply because I hate the character. I remember how I was in love with him and Emma, when I first read the pilot script, but now they're my least favorite part of the show. I just hate them both so much. They're so unlikeable and their "romance" is so annoying.
2.) Parenthood
When I watch it, I enjoy it, but it takes weeks for me to actually watch an episode. It's just not MUST-SEE-tv for me which is why I'm not even sure if I will continue watching. I like how this is a family drama that really is about something, namely parenthood and the troubles and worries that come with it.
3.) United States Of Tara
Disappoints me so much season, which is why I wrote an entire entry about it (which nobody read apparently). Right now, I'm not even sure if I want to continue buying the DVDs for the show, the writing is just so...sloppy. While there are still a few elements that work and some scenes with great potential, the show just doesn't work as a whole. It feels so dumbed down and contrived this season, which is a shame, because the show has so much things going for it: It has an interesting concept, great characters and an amazing cast. The show has already been renewed for the third season and I really do hope that they eventually will get back to the greatness of the first season.
4.) Nurse Jackie
They kind of ignored the cliffhanger of the first season and got rid of a likeable character without giving him a proper goodbye. A reason to hate the show, but yet I really like what I have been seeing on the show this season. Mostly because the show remained true to itself. The characters of the show are just as much fun as they were last season and the general tone of the show remained the same, despite a few changes. I really like the supporting characters on Nurse Jackie and I think the producers did a great job at casting these characters, because it's really not the concept that makes this show: It's the cast. It is strange that I prefer Nurse Jackie over USOT this season, because I liked USOT so much more last year.
5.) Breaking Bad
Is probably the best show on television right now. There is so much thought put into every single scene and the characters really do feel like real people, because they have so many layers, even the ones who are not that intriguing and barely get any screen time. When the season first started, I feared that it might go downhill, but now after having watched 7 episodes, I think that the show is as good as it always has been. I'm really impressed by how organic, how intense and how emotional the stories are being told on the show. The acting remains strong. I'm really looking forward to see how the season unfolds.
6.) Damages
It looks like Damages won't return, which is kind of sad. But I should probably look on the bright side, because if the show is dead now, then it at least ended with its best season. Yes, I think the third season of the show was the show's best season. The new characters/villains worked remarkably well and the whole season was a thrilling, emotional, surprising ride with a lot of pay-off, as they not only resolved this season's storylines, but also unresolved plots from the first two years of the show, as if they knew that they were going to be cancelled. Scott Campbell deserves an EMMY for his work on the show, seriously, never have I hated and pitied a character so much at the same time. The writing and the acting were so good this season that I'm pretty sure that Damages will be my personal no. 1 show of the year at the end of the year.
7.) Weeds
Spoiler alert! Elizabeth Perkins (Celia) is leaving Weeds this year. It's not known whether she will be in season six at all or in how many episodes she actually will be if she is in this season, but her exit has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Her leaving makes me a lot less excited about the show's future. While her storylines these last few seasons were really crappy and made her character feel pretty pointless and dragged on, I still think that the relationship between Nancy and her always was the most interesting thing about the show, even though they did rarely show them together in these last few seasons.
8.) Lost
Only four episodes are left and while I'm disappointed that the show always kills off my favorite characters, I must say that I applaud the writers for actually sacrificing characters, even though they only sacrifice the obvious ones. Those emotional deaths were missing in the last season of BSG (which is one of those many reasons why the last season of BSG sucked so hard) and I'm happy that LOST gets one thing right, because I already know that the show will go out in a very disappointing way. I just don't think that LOST will live to my or other people's expectations. While I still think that LOST is overrated and written by amateurs, the show still works and is VERY entertaining on a weekly base. Once the show is done, there will definitely be missing something on network television.
