United States Of Tara - Why I Am Disappointed With Season Two So Far.

Sometimes a show starts out rather promising, but then the writers retool the show between seasons and the show takes a turn for the worse. Dirty Sexy Money comes to my mind, which was a show that had a very promising pilot, lame follow-up-episodes and then got completely retooled between seasons and turned into a holy celebration of unwatchable ( Read more... )

You explained nicely why you think season two of United States of Tara is not up to par with the first season. I'm also rather disappointed with what they did to the show.

I thought it was already kind of obvious in season one that Tara's husband would become a little less patient with her disorder and that some drama would be created around this topic. However, I just don't like HOW they did it. Max's behaviour is just not very believable.

I wouldn't say that Marshall was completely comfortable with his sexuality in season one. It wasn't a big problem or anything, however, sometimes he seemed a little insecure but maybe I'm the only one who had that impression, maybe it's just because he's a rather quiet character.
But yeah, I'm not really fascinated with what they have done with him in season two. It's just not interesting ...

I agree with what you said about Charmaine, it's cliché and since Charmaine is a entertaining character I wish they would have done something different with her. Something more interesting.

At first, I liked Kate's new friend but I don't know what to think of it at the moment because the story progresses so slowly. That's also one of my problems with this sesaon: I feel like nothing is really happening. Except for Tara's storyline which might pick up some pace now.

I still hope it'll get better but I'm not so sure about that anymore and my interest is already decreasing (which is probably more a problem of my "motivation" or whatever than a problem of the show).

Thanks for commenting, V.

Yeah, him becoming less patient was a bit obvious towards the end of season one, I believe one episode before the finale, they even had a big fight that got its resolution by Tara callim him and letting him know that she wants to face the guy from college. But still, his development this season just doesn't feel that organic.

I'd say Marshall was comfortable with his sexuality, but I'd also say that he's kind of an awkward kid in general, which is why he seems insecure and if you have a first crush on someone and you don't know if he's actually interested in you, it's a pretty uncomfortable thing to go through. I'm just not a big fan of his storyline this season and I hate that all of his storylines seem to be about being gay. Last season was only about his crush on that church dude, this season it's only about "Am I Gay or not?". I think there are more stories to tell about him that do not include highlighting that he's gay.

I love Charmaine. The actress is so much fun and it's great that she makes the character work, because it's the most ungrateful character on the show. I hope this baby-storyline offers a fresh, inspiring twist on the whole baby daddy cliché, though I kinda doubt it.

I think you losing interest is not just caused by your motivation, because I'm losing interest too. When I rewatched season one before the new season premiered, I was pretty psyched and now I am not even looking forwards to the new episodes. I think the writing is to blame for the most part.
