Character name: Trevor Belmont
Fandom: Castlevania
Timeline: 1479 AD, post-Curse of Darkness
Character's age: 23
Powers, skills, pets and equipment: As a Belmont, Trevor is a weapon unto himself. He is blessed with above-normal strength, speed, endurance, and a supernatural affinity for detecting and fighting the forces of evil. He's been shown taking on monsters much larger than himself with mere punches and kicks yet still being able to grievously wound them. He combines this talent at hand-to-hand combat with his mastery of the whip, in particular the sacred Belmont heirloom called Vampire Killer, which gives him the power to slay unnatural beings and potentially hurt divine ones. He also utilizes an array of supporting subweapons (usually knives, axes, holy water, and a cross-shaped boomerang) that in turn let him call upon holy offensive spells. Yet even if Trevor were somehow divested of these armaments, his heritage ensures that anything he lays his hands on could potentially become a weapon. It is these qualities combined that make Trevor the finest vampire hunter of his world and time.
Canon history: (Prelude) In 1094 AD, a widowed knight named Mathias Cronqvist swore to defy God by seeking immortality. He hatched a devious plan that involved absorbing the essence of the vampire lord Walter Bernhard, which Mathias coveted so he could become one of the undead himself. The plan was ultimately a success but it also earned Mathias the enmity of his former best friend and fellow knight Leon Belmont. As a result of Mathias' scheming, Leon had been forced to kill his betrothed Sara after she had become a vampire. To fulfill her dying wish, Leon swore that he and his descendants would protect mankind from the creatures of the night and one day slay Mathias. Thus the Belmont clan of vampire hunters was born. But none of their scions would confront Mathias until nearly 400 years later.
(Beginning) Born in 1456, Trevor was next in line to uphold the Belmonts' sworn duty of hunting Mathias and all others like him. But the same humans they protected feared the Belmonts for their unnatural power. To their narrow minds the Belmonts were no different from the monsters they fought and so shunned them from society. They also called the Belmonts heretics due to Leon's abandonment of the Church in order to pursue his mission. This discrimination extended to Trevor yet despite (or perhaps because of) this treatment by his own kind, despite having every reason to turn his back on them, he chose to cast all doubts aside and focus only on his training. On preparing for the day he might fulfill his purpose in life and bring honor to his clan.
He couldn't have known he himself would bear witness to that day's dawn.
(CASTLEVANIA 3 DRACULA'S CURSE) By 1476, Mathias had taken the name Vlad Tepes aka Dracula and become the lord of Wallachia. Enraged at the loss of his human wife to a fearful mob, Dracula sent his demonic armies to raze the land and obliterate mankind. Many warriors sallied forth to slay the vampire lord but none returned. In desperation, the Church turned to the exiled Belmont clan and Trevor rose readily to the challenge. With his clan's holy whip in hand, the hunter journeyed to Wallachia and gained the aid of three allies along the way: the sorceress Sypha Belnades, the freedom fighter Grant Danesti, and Dracula's dhampire son Alucard. Together they fought their way through Dracula's hellish legions and blazed a path straight into his fortress. There, at the Demon Castle's highest tower, they engaged the Prince of Darkness himself in an epic battle. Though Trevor was wounded across the chest and left eye he ultimately fulfilled his destiny by destroying Dracula, the first of his bloodline to ever do so. Castlevania sank beneath the waves and with it the demons that had been terrorizing the land. It was a glorious victory for all, but perhaps for Trevor the most. Not only would his clan finally be hailed as the heroes they'd always been, he'd also found the love of his life in Sypha. In time, they would marry and continue the Belmont bloodline.
There would be no rest for Wallachia's newfound champion just yet though, for Dracula had laid a curse on the land with his last words. Soon, Europe was engulfed in pestilence, mob violence, and heresy. Mankind had triumped over the Dark Lord, only to find that their worst enemy lay within themselves.
(CASTLEVANIA CURSE OF DARKNESS) Three years later Trevor was hunting the Devil Forgemaster, a former servant of Dracula said to be manipulating the curse for his own ends. His search led him to a man named Hector, who wore the emblem of a Devil Forgemaster and possessed some measure of dark power. Trevor mistook him for his quarry and fought him, but quickly noticed he was much too weak for one supposed to be as powerful as Dracula's second-in-command Death. The Belmont showed Hector mercy and continued his hunt. It wasn't long before he found the real Devil Forgemaster, Isaac. The two came to blows but Isaac fled when a vengeful Hector caught up with them.
Trevor admonished Hector to stay out of his way, only to meet him yet again at an abandoned castle where Isaac was said to be hiding. After fighting Hector a second time to see how much stronger he'd gotten, Trevor decided to enlist his aid. Using his blood, he assisted Hector in opening the hidden passage leading to Isaac. What Trevor didn't anticipate was that when Hector fought the passage's guardian, the demonic magic he produced accidentally broke the seal on Dracula's castle and caused it to rise from the depths. Isaac caught Trevor off-guard in the confusion and ran him through the heart. The Devil Forgemaster told Trevor he could not afford him interfering with Dracula's revival and left him to die. Fortunately the hunter was rescued by Julia Laforeze, a witch who'd been aiding Hector in his quest. Trevor's role in this adventure ended here. He was not the one to save Wallachia from Dracula this time, but the aid he lent Hector played its part in doing so.
Months passed before Trevor recovered from his wound and returned to active duty. He is summoned to Anatole shortly after.
Personality: Trevor is a man who has been fighting upwards all his life. Not just physically against that which the Belmonts are sworn to hunt, but socially against the stigma placed upon him by the very people he protects. Fiery, determined, and sometimes brash, his disposition rests somewhere between absolute confidence in himself and outright arrogance bordering on hubris. This is not out of any attempt to cover up for insecurities; he more than has the walk to back up his talk and he knows it. He is a proud and highly competitive warrior in constant search of his boundaries, and if he sees you as a potential equal you can count on him to ask for a test of your abilities. Upholding his family's vow to fight the darkness is his driving purpose in life and his self-perceived cross to bear. He tends to belittle less-capable warriors' involvement in the hunt and demand they leave the job to him unless they can prove themselves worthy. Even when they do he tends to put them on a need-to-know basis, a fault that can prove disadvantageous at times.
Under this rough-mannered exterior lies a hero's sense of compassion and drive to do the right thing. After all, the blood of a knight flows in his veins. Trevor believes in the strong protecting the weak and will endanger, if not sacrifice, himself if it means seeing that through. He cares about the destitute and has an affinity for well-intentioned outcasts, something he himself used to be. He also believes in fighting with honor, eschewing fiendish and cowardly tactics for fair play. And while he naturally tends to mistrust creatures of the night and those who follow the dark ways, working with the likes of Alucard and Hector has taught him how grey such affiliations can be, and he will work alongside the likes of them for the greater good. Despite his pride in himself and his family, Trevor is surprisingly humble before his God and can sometimes be seen seeking His guidance in prayer. Above all, he is a loyal friend and dependable ally. The best of men to have at your side when the unholy are tearing at your walls and crying out for your soul.
