Wikia link! Canon Point: In regards to canon itself, after he sunicides on the rooftop of the Hotel Camilla. (season 2x09, episode title 'I Will Rise Up'). In regards to the AU portion of his app, after he's dropped from the Elegante.
Setting: True Blood is, ostensibly, set on Earth-As-We-Know-It. The primary difference seems to be 'by the way, supernatural things'. Fairies? Got it covered. Nymphomaniac worshippers of Dionysus that turned immortal through sheer force of will and that also really like cows? Yep. Got that too. Shape-changers? So passé. Were-critters? Would you like a side of tiger? Panther? Wolf? Honestly, take your pick, it's practically a smorgasbord.
And then. Vampires. Not quite your usual fare - no sparkling, for one - but they do bear other hallmarks. Burned by sunlight, weakened and harmed by silver. They like sleeping in coffins but a light-sealed room or a hole in the ground will do just as nicely in a pinch. And, of course, they drink blood. Sometimes nastily, sometimes messily, quite often fatally until...
The 21st century. The Japanese, you see, were kind enough to create a product called 'True Blood'. It's a synthetic replication of the real thing and it means that vampires no longer have to hide in the shadows and, well, mercilessly hunt and kill humans for their dining pleasure. So, shortly thereafter, they 'came out of the coffin' to humanity. This was a very calculated, very political move on behalf of the vampire's upper echelons. They knew that with the advent of technology, forensics and general science that their existence would be forcibly revealed before too long. By 'coming out', they were controlling the situation inasmuch as they were able.
So. Vampires and humans. Co-existing peacefully at last. Oh did I say peacefully? I meant 'suddenly overzealous organized religion (see: Fellowship of the Sun and Associates) has a new minority to hate and demonize!' - Admittedly in this case, vampires as a species have sort of earned the vitriol by being, you know, blood-sucking monsters, so the Church isn't entirely wrong to beat them with the prejudice stick. But not all humanity agrees with this rather extreme stance of 'they all deserve to be burned at the stake'.
By painting vampirism as a sort of 'disease', and intimating that they're victims as much as anyone who gets cancer or HIV, vampires have sort of drummed up a certain amount of sympathy from particular aspects of human culture. Some humans even try to curry the favour of known vampires, hoping for the ~eternal life~ that is so in their power to grant. These humans are generally known by the derogatory term 'fang-bangers', and are ostracized by more ~polite~ society even as they're embraced (and, let's face it, derided) by vampires for being, well... an easy snack. (Human equivalent of go-gurt, apparently)
However, vampires can hardly go about 'turning' humans at the drop of a hat. It's certainly not a thing that's lightly done, and there seems to be a great many rules set in place as to the number of vampires that can exist in any one territory or 'kingdom'. Travelling to another area requires the permission of the local governing body. Vampires? Are a little OCD about control. And on top of that control, they're very protective of their numbers, due in part perhaps to the fact that very few vampires survive their first few years of life. These rules are in place for a reason, and reinforced for the same by the upper echelons of society.
Which brings us to the hierarchies themselves. Godric was, at the end of his un-life, a 'Sherriff'. As far as political power goes, they're a step-up from your more 'common' vampires, but they're well below the likes of a King or Queen and certainly a step down from Magister (think: vampire inquisitor). What power they hold is sufficient to rein in the vamps in their territories, but they seldom make any sort of earth-shattering decisions on their own, and the answer to their individual monarchs directly for any actions they might take.
In summary: Earth with Vampires, Godric held a semi-important position but was hardly any sort of end-all, be-all authority for vampirekind, despite his age and strength (he's currently assumed to have been the second-oldest vampire in North America, the foremost being Russell Edgington, the monarch of Mississippi). Oh, and Vampires Have Politics. A lot of them.
NOW: Some quick notes on the Elegante, since that will be relevant later on. Elegante was a game set on an extremely large ~luxury liner~ type ship. The game had a strong predilection towards horror, and was run by a madman known as 'Captain Redd'. The endgame plot is that it was bound for a sort of 'Golden Shore', which Godric did not stick around long enough to reach.
Personality: WHAT PERSONALITY...
... Honestly, I'm not far from kidding.
Godric is in only a handful of episodes and has only a handful of lines. In those lines he is shown to have very little variance to his inflection. Even when angry, his expression doesn't much change from 'calm neutrality'. Godric? Is a zenpire. He is two thousand years old, and at his core, more than anything he is tired. When we first see him, at a strapping thousand years old, he is profligate, vicious, ripping the throats out of Eric's warrior entourage without thought or care. He seems almost like a sort of eldritch Peter Pan, brutally joyful, the sheer embodiment of excitement at life, at death, the hunt and the kill. It is he who first tells Eric the adage that would carry him through his own existence, 'There is only survival or death'. And Godric, in those early years, is utterly set on surviving no matter the cost.
Given Eric's attitude, (both individually and when he sees Godric again) we can assume that it was this facet of personality that carried him through most of their acquaintance, that of the brutal, boyish, utterly unrepentant killer.
However, our first introduction to the more 'modern' Godric is vastly different from that first glimpse. Oh, he's still recognizable as the same vampire - though he's had a haircut and a rather inspired change of fashion since the old days - he still has those same tattoos and, though evolved, that same aura of absolute surety and power. However, gone are the playful, bloodied grins, to be replaced by a creature that seems to be governed by nothing beyond his own apathy.
Well, mostly governed. Because Godric, despite that zen, is driven at this point in his life by one thing and one thing only. The desire to repent.
You see, it turns out that nearly two thousand years of unrestrained sin can sort of wear a guy down. It's never explicitly stated when his little change of heart began, but at this chronological juncture, we learn that Godric had willingly placed himself in the custody of the Church, resigned to death by holy bonfire, and was hoping for the forgiveness of God for all his past transgressions. He was entirely willing to martyr himself in the hopes that his death would be the impetus that humanity and vampirekind needed to finally play nice.
Can you say 'wishful thinking'?
By the way. He's actually older than Christianity. (lampshaded: 'I'm actually older than your Jesus. I wish I could have known him, but I missed it') And yet believes in the Christian God and hopes for His forgiveness. Faith is a funny thing.
Besides the zen, he's also shown to be very eloquent when the mood strikes him. He's also a firm believer, at this point in his life, in being fair and just whenever possible. Dude being unnecessarily grabby with a woman? BREAK HIS NECK. Vampire/human relations about to escalate into a war? CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG. Godric is too old to deal with your bullshit. (insert: NOW KISS!!! macro)
Godric is certainly succinct when speaking, although he doesn't exactly shy away from Inspired Speeches. Honestly, he acts with efficiency more than almost anything else. If one word is needed in a situation, that will be the one he uses. If a speech is called for, he'll start soliloquizing. If a show of strength is necessary to forestall a fight, he'll do that as well. Godric is certainly a minimalist, in everything from the words he chooses to the clothing he wears. Even his nest, which he shares with others who likely have a hand in the decorating, is shown to be rather bare. Spartan Chic, as it were.
He's also shown to be rather remote, almost fearless in the execution of his actions. Though he shows repentance for causing his compatriots concern and although he humbles himself before them quite abjectly, he seems almost detached from his words. Surely, they carry meaning, but saying them seems to cost him nothing. It's hard to imagine him as being devoid of pride, but there seems to be no other explanation for his contrite self-blame. Well - perhaps not devoid of pride so much as beyond it. Godric himself says that he 'doesn't think like a vampire any more'.
He is almost unerringly polite, and does his best to treat humans respectfully (lampshade: 'I don't see the danger in treating humans as equals'). For example - Jason is 'Mr. Stackhouse', and Steve Newlin, leader of the Fellowship of the Sun, is 'Mr. Newlin', even as he's doing his level best to incite a human-vampire war. Godric assumes familiarity with no one (he's even sort of stiff and formal with the vampires closest to him, save perhaps Eric) and could reliably be called 'proper to a fault'.
That doesn't mean, however, that he can't be roused to anger, though that anger is generally as cold and calm as his other moods. He's secure enough in his authority that he doesn't need to raise his voice, or alter his expression. He can literally imply displeasure by words alone (and sometimes a hand to the throat doesn't hurt).
One of the other things of note about him is the sheer force of his presence. Even though it's easy to mistake him for a sixteen year old boy, few people would do so after spending sufficient time in his presence. He certainly conducts himself in the furthest manner possible to a teenage boy.
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitation Suggestions:
STRENGTHS:
SUPER SPEED: True Blood vampires can canonically move faster than speeding bullets.
SUPER STRENGTH: Need to do some landscaping? Never fear. Vampires can also rip trees out of the ground with ease! Seeing as how Godric is also Stupidly Old and power increases with age, it's assumed that his strength is NEAR GOD TIER in terms of vampire strength stats. However he's not one to throw his muscle around unnecessarily. And as usual, godmoding permissions will apply.
SUPER SENSES: Ever wanted to hear a pin drop six miles away? YEP. He can also hear your heartbeat, smell whether or not you showered this morning, and can pick out the juiciest, most biteable spot on your anatomy in a glance.
LINGUISTICS: Canonically he's shown to speak ~Old Norse (which is really just... modern Swedish... Because Skarsgard did all the translating), German and English. However, considering his age and the fact that language would have been one of the easiest ways for a vampire to reliably blend in, it's reasonable to assume he knows a fair amount of Earth dialects popular in the last couple thousand years. And, as my Nebulous Headcanon places him as being Gallic, one assumes he knows that tongue as well (though it's seven hundred years 'extinct').
HEALING: Vampires are essentially energizer bunnies of constant regeneration, and Godric is certainly no exception. Because of his age and general strength, it's reasonable to assume that he can heal from everything short of fatal injury. However, the greater an injury from which one needs to heal, the weaker they are afterwards, and the more immediately they require blood to satiate their hunger. In the interest of limitations, I'm going to say that his regeneration functions a great deal slower than it would in canon, and it will basically necessitate an immediate need to feed.
WEAKNESSES:
SUNLIGHT: will wipe a vampire off the face of the Earth. Quite literally in Godric's case. Younger vampires tend to turn into a sort of primordial soup, but he more or less turned to ash and fluttered away on the breeze. Say it with me now, 'All we are is dust in the wind'.
SILVER: Burns like hell. And also seems to be a good method for restraint. Vampires have a difficult time moving when silver is laid across their limbs.
BLOOD DRINKING: ... Well, when you have to rely on other people for plasma donation, things can get a little difficult. However, it's indicated that the older a vampire, the less they need to feed, so it's probably safe to assume Godric can go a good spell without nomming on anyone unnecessarily.
STAKES: Yeah they don't like those much. One good blow to the heart and suddenly you've showered in vampiric body bits.
Inventory: Literally nothing more than the clothing on his back, which is basically a loose shirt and a pair of white pants. No shoes, though.
Appearance: Despite his rather significant age, Godric has the appearance of about a sixteen year old boy. He's got that unnatural paleness of someone who hasn't seen the sun since Aramaic was a Thing, and the skin of his torso is peppered with tattoos and a brand on his shoulder.
image reference here. The tattoos have a great deal of symbolism to his character - the one on his left arm means 'water', the one on his right is written in the oldest Runic language on the planet (elder Futhark) and implies immortality (because it's ironic). The one on his back could be one of two things - a serpent or the tree of life. It's hard to say which is more appropriate to his character. And finally, the brand on his upper right shoulder. It's the symbol of a Roman family, who no doubt acquired him during Caesar's whole Gallic War. That the brand was put on his shoulder (somewhere easily hidden, most Roman slaves had rather more visible brands if indeed they were marked) implies that he was a slave of some stature, possibly even a political prisoner rather than someone reduced to drudgery and hard labour. This is backed up by a tattoo on his chest, the torque that follows his collarbone. This was specific to Gallic nobility.
Age: Over 2000 years.
OC/AU Justification ;
If AU, How is Your Version Different From Canon, and How Will That Come Across? Godric showed up on the Elegante expecting, well. To be dead. He has very vivid memories of being on the roof of the Hotel Camilla and feeling that rush of excitement as the sun began to rise.
So naturally, he was a little sceptical of the whole 'by the way you're now on a boat', which he sort of assumed was a sort of afterlife.
At first, he maintained his general state of apathy/zen, though he was privately amused/resigned to the fact that it seemed he was not going to be granted that which he truly wanted above all else: death. Even the sunlight aboard the ship was harmless.
Aboard the Elegante, Godric witnessed the state of things, as they were being rather run-down and, save for the Captain's own rules, lawless. There was no sense of cohesion or unity among the passengers and Godric sort of took it upon himself to organize a militia, more because no one else stepped up to the plate than feeling particularly inspired. He was revitalized somewhat by his time aboard the 'Boat, because it was something new, something he'd never experienced before, and he was being exposed to all manner of creatures and people that didn't exist on Earth, but ultimately the core of his personality wasn't altered in the least.
His closest CR was with two OCs, a DBZ character, a Dresden Codak character and Alice, from Tim Burton's recent foray into the world of Lewis Carrol -
ntjstapwn,
gotyourwallet,
littlelegend,
autodidacticone and
entirelybonkers. If permissible, he'll recognize a
Transformer on
sight, (and thus will recognize Ratchet and also Barricade, incarnations of which he knew aboard the Elegante) and he had several interactions with the Elegante's Azula, but I'm also completely willing to play select amnesia, and I'll be talking to the muns of any characters with which he might have even passing familiarity before I spring the CR bomb on them.
Honestly, the only thing his CR AU will do for him, in terms of personality shift, will be to negate the obligatory 'egads! Where am I and what manner of thing is occurring that I am suddenly here!' type post.
If OC, Did You Run Your Character Through a Mary-Sue Litmus Test? Godric is Vampire Jesus. Of course he's a Mary Sue.
And What Did You Score?

Log Sample:
Though sunlight aboard the Elegante could not harm him, two thousand years of necessity and habit weren't anything that could bear breaking, and Godric spent his nights awake even as he spent his days sequestered in his lightless room. But the 'Boat was never entirely inactive. Even in the darker hours he was as like as not to encounter someone in its halls, but not tonight. Tonight, when he made his way to the uppermost deck, all was still and silent. As a tomb, one might say, if they had a taste for the ironic.
(he did)
This place would never be his home. It had nothing in common with the old forests now claimed within the borders of Belgium and Germany, nor even with his nest in Dallas. But it was... familiar, after a fashion. And it had not been unkind to him.
Even Eric's arrival and subsequent disappearance he didn't take as a matter of cruelty. It had given him an opportunity to see his child, to speak with him on matters long laid to rest between them, and he hoped that it had in some measure given his progeny the peace Godric could not grant him on the roof of the Camilla.
Selfishness had driven him to suicide. Selfishness and the press of years and sin upon him, heavier than any yoke he had known. He was well aware of it, and made no excuses for his actions. He had always been so. Survival, or death, and in the end only the latter had suited him.
So he had died, and been reborn. The Christian God, if He existed, had something of a sense of humour.
Godric stepped out onto the deck. There was a faint breeze in the air, the lingering scent of brine, and above him the immovable stars. That, more than Deck Thirteen, more than the beings in this place he had never so much as imagined existing, was alien to him. The stars had been a constant presence in his two millennia of existence. A constant presence and equally so a guide. One of the few things he took for granted would outlast him, and had existed long before he first made his way in the world. Even as humans could not comprehend his two thousand years of life, so too did he have some difficulty imagining the billions that comprised the lifetime of a single star. It was only natural, he imagined.
But these stars-no, they would be discomfiting, if he were one for comforts. He couldn't say whether or not it was a good thing that he wasn't. He simply accepted it as an artless part of this strange un-life, and lived as best he could.
He stepped up to the railing, rested his arms lightly on it so that he might look out over the endless ocean. There is, as ever, no land. The Captain's 'Golden Shore' is presumably out there somewhere, though Godric thought it a fancy. Was it meant to be a paradise, or merely an extension of the prison the Elegante's denizens now inhabited?
He drew a breath he did not need. The night was bright, brisk and chilled and there was a time when it would have stirred him to the very core of his being, inspired a death's head grin and a night of wild, reckless abandon. And, yes, murder. He'd killed entire villages and thought nothing of it at the time.
Now, he merely recalled those days and knew them best laid to rest.

Good people of Sacrosanct.
[The words are toneless, but passes well enough as a greeting, since he's addressing the general assembly.]
I am called Godric, and I would ask that anyone who bears familiarity with the ship 'Elegante' speak with me at their convenience. To all others, I thank you for your time.
