I shot pictures for the Danny Rolling execution today. It was the most emotionally intense event I've ever shot.
About 7 of us from the Alligator shot the event. A lot of media were out there.
The crowd was separated: supporters and opponents of the execution.
It was disturbing seeing how happy and vengeful some people were. The picture I got published was of a woman who seemed just so happy that he was dying. She couldn't wait for the hearse to drive by and was angry that it didn't drive passed them because she wanted to yell more.
She wished him suffering in hell.
Some of my classmates that I rode with cried.
It was like two different worlds. One side was filled with people who couldn't wait for him to die. The other with people singing and praying for the families and Danny Rolling.
After the assignment, about 7:40 p.m. we headed back to Gainesville from Starke. We got there just before the late class at 8:30 p.m. When we got there though, Kratzer was still at the news desk, so we just killed time before then.
At the Alligator we ate pizza and drank beers... well most of the beer ended up on the carpet. People kept tripping over bottles, I think three spilled.
I finally got home at 12:15ish.
Long night. Good shots though, probably a few portfolio pieces.
