CHARACTER NAME | Koutake Haruki
CHARACTER SERIES | Di[e]ce
CANON POINT | End of Chapter 6
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING | Blade Brandier
BECAUSE MAKING HARUKI A HARVEST CLERIC IS WIMPY B| No, not really. Most of the promotional images show him with a sword (although, up to his canon point, Haruki has not been shown fighting 'on stage' if you will) This class seems to match his elegant disposition the most.

BACKGROUND | Haruki's childhood background is very vague, with only bits and pieces being revealed as the story progresses. What is known about him is that he and Kazuki were childhood friends, bore a similar appearance from day one and is probably from a rather well-off household. Since he and Kazuki have known each other for as long as they have, Haruki is very familiar with Kazuki's habits (including his tendency to be a game addict) and is the only person to which Kazuki will listen to.

They were average people living happy lives until the day of the 16th birthday...

The day started out normally enough, minus the record snowfall. Until the afternoon rolled in; the heating system malfunctioned and after it passed 40 degree Celsius, it took the bell/announcement system with it. The first official game of di[e]ce had begun.

With the heat and the 'unlucky sounding' hymn playing, all the students in Seitohkoh went insane. Some ended up killing other students while most started to target the unfortunate 'players' in the game. Separated from Kazuki, Haruki set off on his own to find a way to get everyone out. Until he got attacked but some of the rabid students, at least. He escaped (not that Kazuki knew, with the way he was plowing through locked doors and schoolmates) and found his way to the broadcasting room. But not after decimating a group of schoolmates who were trying to kill him. Finding the CD and tape that were the source of the announcement telling everyone to get out of the school in three hours and the strange hymn playing throughout the school. He commandeered the broadcast to announce to all those students that were still normal to escape and get help for everyone.... And to tell Kazuki to meet him at the front gates.

Of course, things just go straight to hell after that.

With Kazuki getting sick due to the head, the appearance of upperclassman Sion and, later, the confirmation that, yes, it was the heat and music that was doing this to the school. Sion explained the basics of the game to everyone in the group at the time, including the fact that Haruki - being unaffected like Kazuki and their close friend Yuki - was also a player in this game, much to Kazuki's pleasure. A bit of the a lover's spat occurred when Kazuki and Haruki's opinion on the game differed (one thought it was the best thing in the world while the other was absolutely disgusted) prompting a phonecall from another player to his King and Haruki splitting off from the group, much to Kazuki's chagrin. It didn't take too long before Haruki met up with the group again in front of the worship room.

The final move for this round of the game happened in the Worship room. Ultimately, the childhood friends had to separate but not before Haruki promised to find a way to put an end to this game.

PERSONALITY | Kazuki-holic? lol I kid.

Haruki is a very composed individual; the world could be going to hell in a handbasket and the only thing on his mind would be is Kazuki okay!? how to get out of there in one piece. He's quite the thinker and seems to be the more academically inclined one of the pair. While Haruki is really good at figuring things out - he intends to find a way to stop the game of di[e]ce that he and Kazuki are wrapped up in - he isn't one for video games preferring to read a book instead. As a result, he sometimes misses some of the clues that Kazuki notices right off the bat. Being the smart kid that he is though, Haruki's catching up fast.

While the one constant goal is to kill the opposing king no matter what, Haruki seems to be an individual who prefers finding a peaceful resolution or avoiding a fight all together. Unlike Kazuki, who jumped on the opportunity to kill everyone in the game for the sake of making it interesting, Haruki was greatly opposed to the idea. "You feel pain when someone hits you, right? It's the same for the other person!" Even before that outburst, Haruki was shown running away from the students so that he wouldn't have to fight them.

Which isn't to say that he's helpless and incapable of fighting. The manga makes sure you see him standing amongst a group of dead students wiping blood off his hands. He just doesn't like the idea of killing each other for the sake of a game. He probably doesn't like the idea of killing in general, from the way Haruki keeps trying to avoid fights and stave off the prompting from his player pieces when they were trapped in the school.

Overall, he is pretty much the opposite of Kazuki in terms of philosophy. Find him outside of a life or death situation, then you'll find that Haruki is very well-mannered and soft-spoken; a relief from Kazuki's outgoing and casual personality.
