Soup from a can

Mar 14, 2008 20:09

somtimes positive and somtimes negative
but always profound to sit alone while quietly eating canned soup
humbling
and maybe
encouraging

i mean after all
you made it to your next meal
cant be all that bad
it isnt steak and potatoes but it will still keep the audience guessing for a few more hours

at the grocery store today i felt pretty silly with my rockstars
on sale three for five
the man in front of me in the checkout line had only one item
a frozen dinner in a red box
there was a picture of what was supposed to be inside on the top of the box
this man was older
no hair and what he did have was stringy and grey
sullen face that i wanted to believe was not one of shame

even strong people grow old
much of the time the stronger ones outlast the rest
and since disease and old age appear to have no effect on them i am forced to think they die of the only thing left
not of bacteria or viruses or cancer
but of loneliness

we as people were not meant to live alone
not meant to go through life alone
some of us would like to think we could
and for sure sometimes we think we can
some of us have even tried
however community so surrounds us it can be near impossible to escape
ignorant to ignore

i guess i will explain this one for you
the soup is both humbling and encouraging becuase of the knowlege that it took several teams of people to bring that can of food to you
