So I had a vision today in the shower. I always get them in the shower, these visions. I had a vision that we, the band and its cohorts, created a scene in Hampton Roads. As of right now, there is nothing. There are bands that are scattered all throughout the scene here with no real sense of unity. No one sounds like us, they say. So what? We have one thing in common. We are from Hampton Roads, and we are all in bands. We like to make music, and hopefully someday we can make a full time job out of our music. So here is how we do it. We follow the example set by Ian Mackaye in making the DC scene. We start a record label. Get a house, name it after the record label, and conduct all of our business out of said house. We organize shows. We make flyers. We make media for people to hear our music. We make a place for people in bands to come and be welcomed.
What brought all of this on? Some discussions I have had with Reese a couple of weeks ago. However, it might have been because I'm reading about the Black Panther Party for this class I have. It is very intrueging and enlightening. Makes me become an idealist all over again. In a time of paranoia and fear in the country I live in and love, the United States of America, some unity might do us some good.
Thanks to Briana, I have been turned onto the genius and fury that is Insignia. Now if only I could convince everyone out there (you too Igliashon) to move out here and help establish my scene... Perhaps, someday.
