I have so much catching up to do. I've been commenting a lot but not actually writing in my journal. About 3 weeks ago we went to Louisiana to see Memaw. We had received a call from Jody telling us to get there ASAP so we did. When we first received the call we knew that Memaw was having to be shocked to get heart heart in rhythm, she had a stroke, and her kidneys and bowels had stopped working. When we got there she was just a tiny lil thing laying there so pitiful. Her face was swollen, from the steroids, to the point that we hardly knew her and her limbs were so frail and bruised from top to bottom. A nurse in the ER ask her if she felt safe at home. lol The nurse was truly a sweetheart and was looking out for mom. She didn't realize that Memaw is spoiled to death and loved by all. The poor lil thing has such thin blood she bruises easily and looks like someone has beat her : (
When we first got their Tommy first went up to her bedside, this is his Momma, and she opened her eyes and you could tell it took everything she had to just speak. She said, "T-tom?" That's what she calls her baby boy, Tommy said ,Yeah, mama." Then she said, "Oh you made it...I thought it was a dream when I first opened my eyes." I think at that point me, Tommy, and Dusty, my son, all felt a lump in our throats. Tommy held her hand lovingly then let Dusty get up to give Memaw a kiss on the cheek. Dusty said , Hi Memaw then stepped to the side for her to see me. I reached down and kissed Memaw and she grabbed my hand. She told me she wanted me to sit beside her on the bed and she wouldn't let go of my hand.We talked a while then noticed it was 3:30 am and Me and Tommy went and caught a nap in the tahoe and Dusty wanted to stay and sleep in the room with Memaw. He loves her so much and is so gently and thoughtful anytime he sees her.
We stayed another day and had a nice visit but as the hours of sharing our love with her ended we too had to leave to get back home. Memaw had Tommy's brother and his family and Pam, Tommy's sister and her family lives there in town and Memaw lives with them.
I knew that might be the last time I saw Memaw and I made sure that she knew how much I love her. Dusty had special time with her by caring for her through the night. Then I don't know what happened but Tommy was in such denial that he treated it like any other visit. I think it was denial. It was probably a bit of shock to because Memaw has always weighted about 145, this time she was 116 and that was with lots of fluid from the steroids. I will leave this entry as is and add more tomorrow.
