Yep, it's happened. The municipal council has voted in favour of building a new parliament building on the site of the former Stadtschloss.
The opposition groups felt pressure from the result of the survey/referendum and pledged support provided traffic disturbances are kept "to a minimum". Well that's nice and concrete and legally binding...
They also demanded more money for schools, kindergartens and the town library since obviously the town has more money than it knows what to do with. It wouldn't be terribly surprising if that money didn't materialise...
And finally, the report I read also stated that there will be enough room in the new parliament building to house further councillors (or whatever you'd call them) in the event that Berlin merges with Brandenburg...
That will be the next project for the political bulldozers. Berlin has no money, Brandenburg is thrifty. Merge them together and Berlin can sup up all the money from the surrounding area, as East Berlin did during the times of the GDR.
I despair.
