ok Joy, here it is:
I am sitting here at 7:50 p.m. eating steel cut oats with cinnamon, pecans, a few raisins and a splash of whipping cream... or at least I think that is what I am eating.... They're crunchy...
I always thought steelcut oats were flakes that were a little thicker than regular oatmeal so I ordered some from the co op... All 25 pounds of them ...showed up today looking quite different than I expected.
They look like you would feed them to a cow or a sheep. 25 pounds of them - maybe a herd of cows.
They sort of taste like an oat product. I know oatmeal, quick oats even oat bran. Is this oat kernals? Oat Hulls?
Well I did what any organically minded health nut geek/nerd - wait a minute I don't think they exist!- would do: I looked it up on ask jeeves "steel cut oats description + picture".
I fould descriptions and recipes from 2 minutes to 5 to 30 to 45 to 4 to 5 hours to double boilers to overnight in a crockpot.
so I did mine with who-knows-how-much water - then I added who-knows-how-much-more water then cooked it for about 35 minutes and said ready or not here i come!
I think I will have them again tomorrow morning!
With whipping cream.
I am trying to cut down on cholesteral and fat.
Maybe the oat hulls will cancel out the cream.
good night.
p.s. I bought a Kodak CD33 digital camera. (Melody get over here and help me with it!)
