4. The elimination of the perception that Hufflepuff is the house that's the dumping ground for the people who aren't highly intelligent, brave, or ambitious. Hufflepuffs are supposed to be hard-working, just, true and loyal. These are not bad qualities. They are just not glamorous ones.
EXACTLY! It gets me so cheesed when everybody acts like Hufflepuffs are nothing. T_T
2. At least one homely, non-evil, non-Slytherin character who is likeable. I am tired of Rowling equating physical ugliness with moral corruption. That stereotype is embedded deeply enough in our society and she doesn't have to reinforce it.
Rowling doesn't always equate physical ugliness with evil. Her coolest characters aren't described as being attractive--Neville is described as being homely and plump, and he's a really kickass character. Hermione has buck teeth and frizzy hair. Ron has a big nose. Harry's short and scrawny. They're not ugly, but they're not Sueishly attractive. And the ones who are attractive tend to be bitchy and/or annoying. (*cough* Cho and Fleur! *cough*)
And she did describe Tom Riddle as being decidedly good-looking. I think his ugliness as Voldemort is more of a symbol of the transformation he went through--a symbol of the ugliness of his soul, maybe.
3. At least one actively evil, good-looking Gryffindor. Gryffindor shouldn't always get to be "the good house," and since the fans are so determined to
