All time travelling aside...
Now, we know that Harry was born in July, and that Lily and James died in October of that year or the next. I don't remember which it was, but either way, Lily was hanging on to that second baby for a daaaaaamn long time.

"They must have been terrible parents." Now, it turned out they weren't bad parents. They were, just dead. They couldn't raise me, it was just. impossible.

Best. Explanation. Ever. "They weren't bad parents, they were just dead!" I am so using this sometime.

Harry was born in July of 1980. Lily and James were killed in October of 1981; Harry was already one year old by that time. I love the backstory in the books; I often wonder when exactly Lily and James were married.
