Don’t forget about the first bi-annual Pottersues Contest which is replacing the old annual Pottersues Contest. The theme for said contest is Gamer Fic. Since Gamer Fic is a rather new concept in fanfic, I’ve added links to three entries which feature a Gamer Fic. I’m also working on a list of common traits we find in Sue stories which make them ( Read more... )

I really dislike these stories which make Harry a genius when we have a resident genius in canon. The only canon character I think could possibly compete with Hermione intelligence wise outside of those in Ravenclaw - and then only some - would be Draco. Yeah, I know his grades started slumping later on, but I don't think his father bringing up the fact Hermione out did him during the second year was a mere coincidence. Specifically, I don't think Lucius would have made such a big deal about a Mudblood specifically if there were any other students. Instead, he would have been asking why he ranked lower.

In fact, Draco being a secret technophile is far more interesting an idea than Harry being one.

I think the worst part though is the fact the Dursley family are completely fine with him for no other reason than Harry is so amazing.

Why is this a thing?

I hate Draco being made a genius (he really wasn't. Draco fans just can't wrap their heads around his ego actually being just bravado because he's OMG CUTE) and Harry being a genius misses the point (Yes, I would have preferred he be smarter, but then he wouldn't be Harry).
But DUDLEY?!

How much you want to bet they act remarkable stupid for purportedly being so smart?

I don't think that Draco was a super genius or anything, but he wasn't stupid. What I like about him is that he has a clear character arc and actually, when push comes to shove, ends up not being a murderous fascist like his father. He had a romanticised version of events and of his own grandeur in his head and fell flat on his face once things got serious. The character development is great, especially seeing as he isn't a main character. That's something I appreciate.

You're entirely wrong, but okay.

I personally saw Draco as that character who worked hard at getting good grades because that pleased his father, only to stop doing so because he couldn't compete with a Muggleborn.
