4176: Not Like Most Girls - "you" Scamander

Jan 12, 2018 20:02

The FB movie came out over a year ago, so I’m not going to worry about spoilers. However, since the next FB movie is coming out later this year, what would you minions consider a decent amount of time to warn for spoilers for a particular entry regarding the movie?
Title: Not Like Most Sues (Actually, the title for the one-shot was “Not Like Most Girls”)
Perpetrator: CenaAmbroseGirl92
Sue-O-Meter: Awful
Cover/Banner Art: Their avatar is a picture of their cat.
Summary: “Most girls would play the role of "damsel in distress", but you were the exact opposite.” Contrary to what the summary says, girls don’t want to play the role of damsel in distress. Oh, wait. We’re talking the 1920s. Historically speaking, girls were expected to act a certain way… who am I kidding! This is the roaring twenties where gender norms were constantly being pushed! The Sue might be seen as scandalous, but she’s certainly not the rarity the writer claims, but I don’t think they really captured what a fem fatale of the roaring twenties would be like.
Full Name: “you” Scamander
Species: A “you-sue” for starters, but Newt’s twin.
Hair: n/a
Eyes: n/a
Markings: n/a
Possessions: n/a
Connection to Canon: She’s Credence’s babysitter and protects him from bullies after the events of the first movie. The one-shot ends with them kissing and “within two years you were married and expecting a child.”
Origin: For some reason the writer decided to write a ton of “you-sues”. Which, second person is banned on the pit. I mean, very clearly under entries not allowed at number five is “any form of interactive entry: choose your adventure, second person/you based, Q&As, and etc.” This is one of the reasons there are so few “you Sues” on Pottersues.
Special Abilities: The writer’s takes away Credence’s agency to give her character agency, but I also don’t think the writer quite understands how agency works. She’s the protector of weak male characters like her twin Newt, but appears to have no other trait than this.

Notes: Is there any truth to this “not like most girls”? The words “not like most girls” implies all girls are alike, but more specifically when the words are used, there is the implication of something negative, something which - in reality - most girls are not like. The problem is society tries to pain girls in this “like most girls” manner, so Suethor’s try to play up the fact their characters aren’t like the negative stereotype. The first problem is, the “like most girls” is a lie, because each girl is an individual with their own strengths and weeknesses

Sample:

You weren't one to be pushed around or taken advantage of. You were also very protective of your friends and family, especially your shy, introverted twin brother, Newt. Though you were in Gryffindor with your older brother, Theseus, you were hardly ever seen without Newt, that was until he met Leta Lestrange.

When he took the blame for what you were sure was Leta's doing and got expelled you were furious and went after her. Suffice it to say that had Theseus not found you and held you back so that all you could do was yell at her you probably would've also been expelled. After that day until graduation, you did your best to avoid Leta though you continued to glare at her whenever you made eye contact.

After leaving school, you joined Newt at the Ministry and after doing mediocre work for a few years you two set off around the world to work on your future book which Newt was to write and you were to illustrate. What was supposed to be a brief stop in Newt York turned into a fiasco which ended in what you and Newt thought was a death, but ended up being an extra passenger on your journey back home.

The more time you spent with Credence Barebone helping him with his Obscurus and teaching him about magic you felt drawn to him just like how he was becoming drawn to you and your protective nature which you and Newt had warned him about. Credence had yet to se the extent of your protectiveness and you wanted to keep it that way so as not to scare him, but you knew it would come out eventually.

ph - gryffindor house, pw - girl power - not!, pf - fantastic beasts era, related to the scamanders
