I hope everyone had a passable Christmas. It was mostly the usual for me: Christmas eve, day, and boxing day at the Burrow with the Weasleys. Remus showed up just in time for dinner on Christmas day, and Fleur made some weird seafood, and for the first time ever I ate more pudding than anyone else, even Charlie. It was a nice time ( Read more... )

I was too tired to cope with Molly's insufferable, I'm sorry. I would've liked to have seen you but you can't help siding with Ron and given you your gift in person.

The books are wonderful, thank you. I assume Pinter came to mind because of the Nobel?

Yeah, there was an article about Pinter in the Times. I've not read him myself, as you can probably guess. Thanks for the coat. I guess I really needed one, because I kept losing lighters and money and only just realised that it's because I had holes in my pockets.

So you were too tired? For Christmas? So I guess the new job is really taking a lot out of you, then.

Yes, well, Pinter has an exquisite touch when it comes to describing how ambiguities precipitate breakdowns. Read it for pleasure though, there's a lot there.

The new job is a bit stressful, even for me, but that should pass once I get my bearings.

Ambiguities? I read comics for pleasure. I like pictures and too many words make my head hurt. Probably because they're so ambiguous.

So... what, they didn't let you have Christmas off?

It's just a different set of ambiguities you're interested in, then. Images present an illusion of connotative transparency that feed off our assumptions far more strongly than words do.

Anyway, of course I had Christmas off, and Boxing Day.

But they're not transparent, they're printed right on paper.

So what did you do with your days off, then? Did you sit in your room? Because someone else I know did, and he's not saying much about it at the moment, either.

If he did it's because he was being a stupid

I wanted to hexed him when he wouldn't

I decided I'd try my hand at stuffing a quail within a peacock within a mallard within a goose within a turkey.

Then I made a paté with their livers.

That was when I wasn't blubbing organising my notes from the last trip I was on. I saw my parents and took long, peaceful baths. It was all right good.

A five-in-one bird? That's revolting and I don't believe you. Who eats peacock?

So... organising notes, long baths, paté that may or may not have been made. I'm glad to have been enlightened, I guess. Or as much as it seems I'm going to be tonight.

I'm sorry. There isn't anything else I think you'd like to hear, and, more to the point, I don't know what to say without making you feel like you've been dragged into the middle of something I don't quite understand myself.

And you'd love the five-in-one roast; don't knock it until you've tried it.

Are you alright, though?

I'm fine. I could be better. I don't relish the thought of telling you what's on my mind but it can't be avoided for much longer - and that's part of what I've been up to these last few days.

Yeah, well, we should talk soon. And then I can tell you that whatever it is you're thinking, it's got to be mad.

How about dinner tomorrow? If you hate the fowl we can get takeaway. And don't forget to go easy on me in any case.

Alright. I'll see you tomorrow night, then. Without Ron, I guess
