Well! What a hectic but amazingly productive couple of days it has been. Let me summarise:
1. I got offered the job (it was supposed to start on 20 November, but I just got a call and they want me to start this Monday.) I meet with the recruitment agency this afternoon to fill out forms and such.
2. My bank account is finally being opened. Which means I can get paid. Now I just need to sort myself out for an NI number.
3. I had a look at a flat, which was nice, but it was going to work out too expensive, and I would have been sharing with two older gay guys. Urgh. Disheartened, I went back to the reception of my hostel to get a beer, and noticed that they had a double room in the same area for cheap. The next day, I signed the lease. I'm sitting in my own room now, using the WiFi connection here. I even have a mirror.
4. Following a successful Starbucks date, I have a dinner date planned this evening with an attractive and smart American.
Given that now I have a job, a flat and a suitable love interest, I feel really really happy and satisfied. I think I have a couple of days off from my job on Christmas/Boxing Day, and I'm thinking about spending it in a hotel in Paris. It sounds decadent, but if I have no loved ones to celebrate with, I might as well do something nice.
Right now, I feel that I like London so much, I could stay here for a while.
Two things I found funny in the last twenty minutes or so: the news headline: "Lollipop man jailed for burning school", and the fact that I got an email from a recruitment agency in Australia looking for 15- and 16-year-olds to be employed by the government to buy cigarettes, to check that the stores are law-abiding. What fun. And kids, the pay-rate is an amazing $12 and hour!
