Don't think he's embarrassed of you!.. my first boyfriend Dave was exactly like that too, I think it's just the way some people are raised, not to show much affection in public. I think some guys are embarrassed to show affection in front of other guys as well, for some reason... He might end up changing, or you might come to some kind of compromise *nods*
