Wand still in your jeans? Both buttocks still on? Okay, let's go.

The Half-Blood Prince came out just in time for Harry's and JKR's birthday! I saw it yesterday thinking that I was really out of the loop that I hadn't known about the trailer by this point. It's brand spanking new and here it is:

Okay, so, I was blown away. The trailer was so much more than what I expected. It was absolutely chilling. It gives me hope. True, I always get my hopes up whenever I view a good HP trailer, and then I become terribly disillusioned come screenplay. I'm just curious how Yates has delivered this storyline. HBP does in fact retain some of the classic naivety back from the CoS days, but judging by this trailer, Yates has created the darkest film yet. As the purist I am, I know that eventually I will shoot this film down. Anyhow, I dub the trailer praised by a devout fan for now. Now my customary objectively critical side: This trailer is so enticing for the very reason that its central focus is psychological horror. We're supposed to tremble at the mention of Voldemort and to see his path to ultimate darkness is naturally chilling. The trailer however successfully excluded the alleged bundles of romantic comedy moments that pepper Year 6 by layering Hogwarts with a zesty new flavour of teenage angst. What it all comes down to is how and what Yates decided to emphasise. The Riddle pensieve moments do take up a reasonable chunk of the story yet there's obviously more. The trailer makes no mention of the series of attacks and Draco's conflict of morals, not as chilling, sure, but central subplots nonetheless. What about the bloody Half-Blood Prince? The trailer doesn't allude to the grandest mystery of the story from which the title is attributed.

Granted I haven't taken a peek at the new images released by WB so my review is solely on the basis of the content of the trailer. In short, this trailer serves me a delectable incentive for returning to the fandom. I promise I will go back to my delusional shipping ways and relish reading fanfic. I promise I will post once in while over at FAP and visit mugglenet. I might even have a go at the podcasts again. I was so bummed out at the prospect of the septology ending with DH. The last two movies seem like a distant dream, so to speak. I just realised that I will be on a campus with no curfews for HBP so the possibility of camping out for a midnight viewing is viable. I could actually go party like a real HP fan! I also really adore whoever came up with the idea of splitting Deathly Hallows. Would it have been so hard to have split GoF as well? Well, at least I have something to hold me until 2011. I can't let go of my first fandom. I just can't.
