"Sorry, but... you deserved that." James flexed his hand and called for Madam Pomfrey.
Shooting James an incredulous look, Sirius worked his jaw, rubbing it experimentally. He'd never met a pureblood who wasn't cowed by his family and he wasn't sure he liked it.
It took ten days of goading to get James's attention. The final straw was making Pettigrew cry.
Sirius wasn't a stranger to being abused, but this was the first time that anyone apologized, or owned up its wrongness. James explained the situation and took his detention without animosity.
Finally, Sirius had found someone worth believing in.
