[Christmas Challenge]

Dec 25, 2006 12:20

There is no formal template to follow for guessing - just leave a comment here (it'll be screened). Guessing ends at midnight (approximately, considering that we're not all in the same time zone) on December 31st, and a list will be posted on January 1st, which will reveal the authors of each drabble, and who is allowed to claim a prize-drabble (and how many, if necessary).

The participants: herald_mage | mara_202 | moonshadow_nal

And also, some people wrote more than one drabble (in case you were wondering why there're more drabbles than participants).

Authors: you will be allowed to post your drabbles in your own journals (if you so desire) as soon as the guessing is over (on January 1st).

[ilistan] Dreaming in Reverse

(Perhaps, Blaise thinks, I am walking backwards.) Potter merely stands in place, his arms by his sides and swinging loosely - but still he moves away.

One step further; reach out your arm; run, maybe, and then you will catch up. Blaise has considered the possibility so often in his dreams that it is a resounding rhythm inside his skull; it is almost as familiar to him as his own heartbeat-

And in an instant, their distance has doubled; tripled. (Or has the earth cracked between us? he asks in a sudden moment of panicked irrationality. Will it swallow us whole?)

His eyes are wide; frightened, but Blaise is no longer running. Potter’s eyes flit towards him, and then away again, uninterested, before the hero (always the hero) steps backwards; away.

One of the few things that Blaise cannot comprehend is why he wakes up breathless, his hand grasping at empty air.

[taiysia] A Muttered Incantation & A Sprig of Mistletoe

His fingers ran along the edge of the fireplace. Dusty. Mrs. Weasley would be ashamed. Ron wouldn't have noticed, and Hermione would have set up a spell to keep the house dust-free automatically. Ginny would have dusted the muggle way; her red hair swept up with a spotted kerchief while she scrubbed and laughed.

A strangled sob broke from his throat and a hand came down on his shoulder.

'Remembering?'

Harry nodded, visions of maroon jumpers popped into his head.

Strong arms hugged him and Blaise whispered, 'I know, me too.'

Harry sighed and Blaise kissed his ear lightly, 'We'll never forget, yeah? But it's time to move on, love. Make new memories.'

And then - a muttered incantation, a sprig of mistletoe, a kiss and a peaceful ending.

[athural] Save the Last Dance

It was almost Christmas. Voldemort had been defeated and all was well in the Wizarding World again. The teachers had organised a Yule ball, thinking this was a perfect occasion for celebration.

'Come on, dance! It'll be fun!' Ginny said, tugging on his sleeve.

Harry forcefully dragged his attention away from Blaise, who was currently dancing with a Slytherin girl named Daphne, and was doing so rather well. He absently wondered if it was a Pure-blood thing to know how to ballroom dance.

'Do I have to? You know I can't dance.' His protest was only half-hearted.

He let Ginny pull him along to the dance floor and after the first few awkward steps, Harry found himself actually having a good time. He only stepped on Ginny's toes twice, which, he thought, was quite an achievement.

Over Ginny's shoulder, his eyes briefly met Blaise's, as they passed each other on the dance floor. He smiled.

'You two are so ooobvious,' Ginny commented in a sing-song voice.

Harry blushed. 'Are not.' He looked up just in time to see Blaise give him an amused smile.

As they left the dance floor to where their friends were sitting and talking, he said, 'Thanks.'

'For what?' Ginny looked at him, slightly puzzled.

'For everything. For still being my friend.'

She smiled. 'You saved us from Voldemort. You deserve some happiness,' she said, playfully patting his arm.

Harry almost choked on his drink when he saw a familiar dark figure come his way. Would he --?

Apparently not. Harry watched, slightly confused, as Blaise halted in front of Ginny and took her hand and brought it to his lips. 'You look lovely, Ginny.'

Ginny giggled and blushed. 'I wish I had such a charming boyfriend.'

Blaise let go of her hand and turned to Harry. 'May I have this dance?' he said, mock-gentlemanly.

'H-here? Now?' Harry stuttered, looking from his boyfriend to Ginny, who nodded encouragingly. 'Um. Yeah. Sure.'

Blaise smiled and took his hands, pulling Harry with him to the nearest free space.

'How exactly... does this work?' Harry asked uncertainly, when the music began to play.

You can dance - every dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye, let him hold you tight
You can smile - every smile for the man
Who held your hand neath the pale moon light

Blaise put a possessive hand on his back and pulled him closer. 'Does it matter?' he whispered in Harry's ear.

'I... suppose not,' he conceded, shivering as he felt Blaise's breath ghost over his ear.

Blaise chuckled, 'Good,' and almost caused Harry to give a startled yelp, when he suddenly twirled him around.

Baby don't you know I love you so
Can't you feel it when we touch
I will never never let you go
I love you oh so much

Harry absently noticed that the dance floor became emptier, that more and more people were watching from the sidelines instead of dancing.

'People are watching us.'

'Do you care?'

Harry brought up his right hand to cup Blaise's face and kissed him. 'Nah. I don't.'

'Cause don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darling, save the last dance for me
Save the last dance for me

[lyvous] Spending Time with a Friend

It was the ministry's 8th annual Yule Ball (celebrating the anniversary of the downfall of Voldemort a the hands of Harry Potter… again).

The past seven years, the guest of honor had given much enjoyed speeches from his place in between his two best friends.

This year, the savior of the wizarding world was absent. Ron and Hermione Weasley murmured assurances to the guests, and told the press that Mr. Potter merely wished to spend time at home with a friend this year. And so, Harry's missed presence was put aside, and wizards and witches alike partied like the eve of the final battle.

But when Draco Malfoy announced at his engagement party (to one Ginevra Weasley) the next day, that his best friend Blaise Zabini could not attend because he wished to spend time at home with a friend -

No one was surprised when the Daily Profit published an article about the elopement of Mr. Harry Potter and Mr. Blaise Zabini.
