Comments: The follow-up log mentioned earlier to Sae being wounded.
Saeki eyed his wardrobe, wearing only a towel slung around hips, fresh from the shower. He had class in two hours but he didn’t want to wear the proper shirt of the uniform and wondered what else he could get away with. The wound to his neck from the other night still hadn’t vanished and he knew too many questions would be asked if it was seen and for once, the spotlight seeking flirt didn’t want the attention. It wasn’t just to avoid possible punishment for fighting (even though he was saving someone) but he wanted to keep Yumiko safe and not expose her as being in danger and careless or whatever other reason could come up to make her lose her job. A wave of nausea hit again as he thought about what he had done to the vampire that didn’t get the chance to flee and he doubled over before crouching at the floor of his wardrobe.
Several deep breaths were taken and soon the feeling passed and the shaking hands stilled. It was to protect Yumiko and himself! He really wished his subconscious would remember that detail and stop freaking out over killing someone, possibly two if the other died after leaving the school. When the spinning room tried to hit again with that thought, it was quickly stamped down as the vampire was getting tired of that reaction and feeling so weak. He didn’t think he’d ever be okay with what he did but it didn’t need to affect him so visibly every time it was thought about.
With a determination to have tonight be just like any other night, Saeki stood and grabbed the black form-fitting ribbed turtleneck he thought looked amazing on him and knew others would agree. It wasn’t a part of the uniform and not school-approved but he felt his natural charm and a smile could get teachers to forgive him for a couple of days since it was the only thing that would properly cover the wound that had faded to a scar and still had a little ways to go before vanishing completely. Tossing aside the towel, boxers and then pants were slid on and soon the selected shirt was in place as well before moving to the mirror to begin the long ritual of styling his hair to perfection.
Yumiko was worried sick. Well, sick of not knowing what had happened the other night after she’d run away from the scene. Saeki had said he’d be okay, but he also seemed to have some urge to prove her something. And it had been two against one. She had tried finding that flirt of a hunter-sensei, but came up with zilch. Really, how dare that man be missing when she needed to find him?!
Leaving a light sense of lavender in her awake she hurried through the halls of the Dusk Dormitory trying not to look like she was in hurry and answering to scattered greetings. There weren’t that many people out of their rooms, so she could handle smiling and waving her hand a little at all of them, while passing them light yellow stilettos soundly clattering against the floor. When she found the door she had been looking for - the first door in the third floor she took a deep breath to calm herself, remembering someone commenting to her fast heartbeat.
She knocked and opened the door just enough to stick her head in, ready to pull back if the boy wasn’t decent. They got embarrassed easily, teenage boys that is, if she happened to see them in any less than perfect state of dress. “Good morning, my honourable knight~” she greeted with a dazzling smile remembering the greetings she’d got in the hall. To her it was hardly a morning. Forgetting her stressful day now that she saw Saeki alive, Yumiko leaned to the doorframe she revealed by opening the door a little more, crossing her arms under her bosom. “Thank you for last night.”
Saeki hadn’t heard the knock thanks to the blow dryer he had going on his hair. Luckily, however, it was turned off in time to catch the sweet female voice coming from his door when he set it down to reach for the flat iron to help ensure his hair was perfectly straight. With wide eyes, he swung around to find Yumiko looking as gorgeous as ever standing in the doorframe. “Yu...Yumiko!” He really had to stop greeting her with a stutter but both times had been a case of being startled and that was his story and what he would tell the woman he was actually glad and terrified to see.
She looked fine, which relieved Saeki instantly but then the fear of her asking about himself and finding the marks he still bore brought back the fear. This wasn’t fair! He was going to try his damnedest to avoid her for a few days more but that seemed to be out of the question now with the way she waltzed into his room. Shouldn’t he have been more excited to have the hot teacher in his bedroom? Normally, he would have been and would have already had the door locked and closed and working on seducing the clothes off of her but this meeting was anything but normal.
“Merely my duty, my queen,” Saeki dropped to his knee like he had done when he swore to protect her. If he acted like he was fine by being suave and a little playful, then maybe Yumiko wouldn’t worry and would leave. “I take it I arrived in time and you’re unhurt?”
“You men seem to a have a knack at arriving in the nick of time,” Yumiko assured him, but her eyes were searching for any clues that Saeki wasn’t as okay as he looked. Her best clue was the turtleneck (first thing to avoid when hiding love-bites - everyone saw through that) but that could be just something she was expecting to see and telling him to strip might do wonders to her teacher’s reputation.
Worry dimmed her amber eyes and she started fingering the chain of her locket again, like she always did instinctively when she was upset or worried. “I’m more worried about you, Sae-chan. As your sensei I should’ve been the one protecting you, not the other way around.”
His gaze dropped to the floor when the inevitable came. Saeki knew he couldn’t avoid it but he really had hoped she would see him acting fine and believe that he was. “It’s nothing to worry about, Yumiko,” standing, hands automatically went to fixing the shirt, tugging it back into place and checking that he hadn’t dirtied the white pants of his uniform.
Putting a smile on his face he waved toward himself and even spun around to show all angles. “As you can see, I’m fine and you really don’t need to worry over me when I should be worried for you and if the attack has left you frightened.”
Yumiko lifted a thoughtful hand on her lips. When dealing with stubborn kids only straightforward manners got anything done and knew from his reaction he was lying to make her feel better. It didn’t make her feel any better - instead it made her furious. “Saeki-kun…” She left the doorway to come inside the room and closed the door behind her, before turning around and fixing a narrow-eyed commanding Look to the boy. “Your shirt. Take it off.”
“Why, Yumiko... I didn’t know you felt that way,” Saeki grinned and flirted with the sexy teacher he had known for years but inside he was terrified of having to follow her orders. It was pretty much the only time in his sexually active life that he didn’t want to strip down for someone he was attracted to. “But I have class in a couple of hours and I don’t think that’s enough time to properly begin.” He was so screwed and trembling inside. The woman before him looked sweet and innocent but he knew how vicious she could be when someone hurt her brothers or she was being disobeyed.
Had she not known him for so long and been in face of his little white lies, Yumiko might’ve believed in the calm look she was receiving. But he was trying too hard not to let her see something. She took a couple of fast steps to him and grabbed the hem of his shirt with her fingertips, tugging it up with a determined look. “Oh, but for what I have in mind, two hours is more than enough. Lift your hands.”
She hated the thought of him being hurt. She hated even more not knowing how badly he’d been hurt protecting her. She hated men for thinking they could sacrifice themselves for her and not think twice about what she thought about it! That they could get away with it by lying to her! She had told Saeki not to get hurt for her, why did they never listen?
By the time Saeki caught on to what Yumiko was doing, his shirt was already being tugged up and his torso was exposed. Thank goodness the cuts and bruises were gone and all she could see was his nicely toned physique but still the panic that she would see the mess of his neck had him squirming. “Yumiko, please, don’t,” his voice was as quiet as he could make it in his panicked state so he figured no one would hear what was going on and draw any odd conclusions but the desperation in that tone could vanish! It really did little for his manliness.
“If anything happened, it was clearly nothing major since I’m fine and going to school, right?” He knew his efforts were useless on a determined Fuji but still he tried.
“I’m not listening,” Yumiko said with a calmer tone than she felt. Really, the boy should know better. How many times had she tended the little wounds and cuts on all three of them? She knew Saeki was a vampire and healed faster than humans, but that wasn’t the point! He shouldn’t have got hurt in the beginning! “I listened to you last night and ran away. I couldn’t have done anything, I know that, but I didn’t want you to get hurt either. So to Heaven or Hell I’ll baby you for now. Hands up I said.”
It was probably every male student’s fantasy since meeting her last week to have Yumiko stripping their clothes away and Saeki knew it was one of his but it wasn’t supposed to be for this reason! There wasn’t a point in struggling anymore since the protesting obviously showed he was injured since they both knew he would have normally removed the shirt at first asking. Boy did he wish he had the powers of illusion right then. With the fight finally leaving him because he couldn’t bear to continue on in that manner with someone that wanted to be his older sister and not a lover, Saeki lifted his arms and let the shirt be pulled off.
“It’s not as bad as it looks, I swear!”
She gasped, seeing the wound. It was definitely looked worse than she’d thought. This is horrible… She obviously needed someone to teach her how to fight back, it wasn’t fair Saeki had to be hurt this way for her. But no, she wasn’t about to cry. Crying didn’t help anyone - it didn’t make a difference to anything. “Did you clean it? Why didn’t you put a bandage on it?”
She touched the healthy skin beside the wound softly with her fingertips, her eyes warm and brimming with motherly caring. “…does it hurt?”
Saeki had to look away. He couldn’t stand seeing the shock and concern in golden eyes and he felt ashamed for causing it. Who cared if he was injured because he was protecting Yumiko? He should have been stronger and more careful and focused on what he was doing. When the memories of killing weren’t haunting him, knowing how weak and useless he was did. “It’s been cleaned and it was bandaged shortly after. I didn’t do it today because the skin is stronger and I wouldn’t be able to hide right up to my chin without looking too obvious so I went without covering it again...”
Still, blue eyes stayed on the floor, convinced he didn’t deserve Yumiko’s touch or the honour of looking at her. “It’s better now... it hurt when it happened but I...” Saeki really didn’t want to say it even if she knew what he was and what he had to do but she would only chide him more for not being honest. “I fed soon after and that took away some pain and sped up the healing a little. I’m sorry, Yumiko.”
Yumiko wondered if she’d gone too far after all. He looked really down and he’d tried to do the right thing, berating him wasn’t going to change that. She should be grateful he was willing to put himself in danger for her no matter how absolutely thoughtless and stupid it was. She was Fuji, but she was also a woman and had loads of motherly instinct in her.
She turned the shirt in her hands right side out and folded it, and while thinking she was way too soft she hugged him tightly, relieved to feel the warmth of his skin under her hands. He was there and he was okay. That was what was supposed to be the most important thing for her. “What am I going to do with you, Sae-chan…? You were so incredibly brave jumping in like that, but you should worry about yourself more than you worry about me.”
Not about to comment on the feeding part - she knew why that had to be done and trusted it had been with permission. It didn’t shock her at all, though it made her think Saeki had probably been even more hurt before. Sighing Yumiko stroked his hair softly, careful not to mess up the work he’d done just a bit earlier more than she’d already done by pulling the polo off him. “Don’t hide things like this from me again.” She kissed the wound lightly. There, all better. Even if it wasn’t, not really. “Okay?”
“Okay...” Saeki didn’t know what else to say even though he wanted to argue and say he would always stand up for the ones he cared for but that didn’t seem to matter. Yumiko was stubborn and wouldn’t listen or think it was just the crush she knew he had and not take him seriously. At least she was safe and he was doing better now. The rest of it didn’t matter and she definitely wasn’t going to get the story of what really happened no matter how hard she pushed because that would really hurt his ego if he admitted to being terrified of what he had done.
“I should finish getting ready for class,” he felt compelled to call her sister considering the way she treated him and was now attempting to care for him. Perhaps it was silly to have a crush on anyone in the Fuji family since they were never truly returned. He still didn’t know what was going on between him and Syuusuke and figured it was best to let those feelings vanish and stop clinging onto awkward childhood memories. “And you can rest assured that I won’t be in any fights until I’m stronger than I am now. But yeah, class.”
“Yes, I did interrupt your morning ritual, didn’t I?” Yumiko smiled sheepishly. Of course she’d hoped to hear what had happened, but pushing it never seemed to help with these boys, once they decided to close up on her. As well as she knew when to run, she also knew when to back off. “I’m sorry, Saeki-kun.”
She took a step back and gave him back his shirt. “I got a little over-exited. Must be your fault, for some reason it’s becoming nearly impossible for me to keep my hands off you.” She winked and chuckled lightly before walking to the door. “Do your best today, Saeki-kun. I’m off to bed~”
Even the flattery and saucy wink he barely caught when he glanced up from the shirt placed in his hands cheered him up. “I’ll try and good night, Yumiko,” he still felt like a failure for not coming out in perfect condition and then worrying someone dear to him. He would feel better in a few days, he told himself as he gave a small lopsided grin to the woman retreating from his room before slipping the shirt back over his head. Time was needed to heal the physical wound and everything he was going through mentally as well, that was all. Soon, Yumiko would have to deal with his awkward flirtations again and everything would be normal.
He hoped.
