Okay, a song on the radio just made me think of this one.
Today's Top Five list: My Top Five Favorite U2 Songs.
There's so many to choose from... Where to start?
5. "Bad" - Just a friggin awesome piece of music, building from a very soft guitar and voice into full blown Bono screaming to the heavens crescendo. I try to do it, I can't hit the notes. It makes me sad.
4. "Bullet The Blue Sky" - This song is just and aural assault and the hardest rocking they had done until...
3. "Vertigo" - Amazing that this late in their career they could score a song so high on this list. This proves that they are the closest thing to The Beatles we may ever see again, a band relevant at all points in their career.
2. "Discotheque" - Say what you want about the B-List cd this is on (1997's unfortunate dive into techno, "Pop"), this track is emminently listenable, danceable, booty-shakeable. From first listen, this song had me up and dancing. Love, Love, LOVE it!
1. "Beautiful Day" - One of a handful of songs that helped me get through the terrible few months following 9/11. To this day, when I look out the window of the bus on an almost cloudless day, I am reminded of Sept. 11th, and then I hear Bono in my head singing "It's a Beautiful Day, don't let it get away." The mornings that happens, my day seems to have more purpose to it. More appreciation.
Honorable Mentions: "Pride (In The Name Of Love)", "Walk On", "All I Want Is You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", God, Part 2", "Wild Honey", "The Electric Co.", "New Year's Day", "Running To Stand Still", "Mysterious Ways".
