Title: Tides Turn
Title: Tides Turn
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean/ House, M.D.
Pairing: Elizabeth Swan/ Remy*** Hadley (Femslash)
Rating: T for now
A/N: I realize that it's been released that Olivia Wilde's character on House is actually named Rena. I'm going with Remy because a) I like it better and b) other than her basic personality traits I'm not taking anything from the actual show House. There will be no medical references, no weird time warps or anything. It's her character inserted into PoTC. Basically an OC but I've put a face, name and personality to her that people may or may not be familiar with. So without further ado...
Will turned at the sound of boots hitting the deck. A tall women stood before him, her hair was dark and moved lightly with the wind. Her deep green eyes reflected the depths of the ocean he knew only too well.
"William Turner?" It was more a statement than a question. He narrowed his eyes at the stranger.
"Captain William Turner actually." He responded. "Who are you and what are you doing on my ship?"
The women squared her shoulders, putting on a cross between a smirk and a grimace.
"My name is Remy Hadley, and I'm here to take your place."

Elizabeth clutched at the scrap of paper in her hand, her eyes roving the moonlit deck. The smell of gunpowder still permeated the air from the battle fought just hours ago. Unfortunately the smell of death still hung there too. It used to make her nauseous. Even after that final battle aboard the Pearl and the Dutchmen. She stopped, visions of Will swimming before her. She shook her head slightly. Yes, it used to make her sick beyond belief, and she had in fact become physically ill her first couple of times but now...now it called to her. A beacon in the dark, drawing her nearer and nearer to her goal. However, her musings of Will had distracted her and she literally stumbled on what she was looking for. She cursed as her knees collided with the hard wood and prayed that none of the slumbering pirates would come to inspect the noise. She stilled, listening for a few moments, before turning to the body that lay next to her. Using a bit of twine she carefully tied the paper around the dead mans neck.
“What are you doing?”
Elizabeth froze hearing a voice behind her.
“Just...just paying my respects.” She said, lowering her voice to a somewhat masculine pitch. She turned slowly to see a young man leaning against the nearest mast. “What are you doing?” She asked, careful to keep her voice gruff. Elizabeth watched as he pushed off the mast and sauntered towards her.
“Someone's got to keep a lookout, haven't they?” He kneeled down next to Elizabeth and inspected the body. “What's this?” He said, reaching for the paper.
“No!” Elizabeth said, but her voice betrayed her, raising to it's natural pitch. The man snapped his head toward her and narrowed his eyes.
Elizabeth raised her chin defiantly, her gaze not wavering. Seeing him up close she realized how young he really must have been. His face was cleaner than most and showed not the slightest hint of stubble along his strong jaw. His eyes were a bright blue-green, and lacked the usual lines of age and battle.
“You're a woman!” He said suddenly, though he kept his voice hushed.
Elizabeth scrambled to her feet, unsheathing her sword as she did so.
Before the young man could move her sword was against his neck.
“What are you trying to do,” he spat, “wake the entire ship?” Elizabeth stared down the length of sword at him. “I'm not going to sound the alarm.” He said slowly, keeping eye contact with her.
“Why not?” Elizabeth asked, her sword still against his neck.
“I...I'm just not.” He faltered.
“Why should I trust you?” She questioned.
“I've been watching you since you came up on deck. I could've stopped you or alerted the others at any time.” He said.
“And why didn't you?”
“I wanted to see what you were after.” He said simply.
Elizabeth nodded and slowly lowered her sword. Neither of them moved.
“You know...you're very reasonable for a pirate.” Elizabeth said finally, sheathing her sword.
He chuckled slightly.
“Well, I'm fairly new to it all. I suppose the novelty of it hasn't worn off yet.”
“The novelty of it?” Elizabeth said, raising an eyebrow at him.
“You know, high adventure, the open sea. The fame, the fortune...” He trailed off slightly.
“The women?”
“I suppose.” He said off-handedly.
“You suppose? What's the matter? Not to your liking?” Elizabeth said, a smile playing on her lips.
“No! No it's not that!” He said quickly.
“You're not a eunuch are you?” She said, failing to keep the laughter out of her voice.
“No!” He said again. “No! It's just...well, don't take offense to this, most women you come across on the seas aren't very kind on the eyes.” Elizabeth tilted her head slightly.
“Should I take offense to that?”
“No! That's what I meant. I...you're...” He stuttered before catching her eyes. “From what I can see...you're beautiful.” She smiled slightly.
“And you're charming. But I have a husband.”
“Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that-”
“Who goes there?”
He turned suddenly, and Elizabeth followed his gaze.
“Someone's coming.” He said suddenly. “Hide, quickly!” Elizabeth turned to run but tripped a second time on the body she'd tied her letter to.
“Hadley!” The voice called out.
“Aye?” He replied.
“What be all the noise?”
“Just me, clumsy I guess.” He said, glancing over his shoulder at her. She heard footsteps approaching them and saw a faint outline of one of Hadley's crew mates. She stilled, opting to try and blend in with the shadows as opposed to finding an actual hiding place.
“Aye, that ye are.” The voice said. “Why haven't ye thrown these bodies overboard yet?”
“Was just about to actually.” Hadley replied. The other pirate sighed.
“I'll be helpin' ye.” He said, moving around Hadley to stand over Elizabeth.
“That's alright!” Hadley said quickly. “I can manage.”
“Nay, the sooner this gets done, the sooner I can get some sleep without having to listen to ye bumblin' around on deck.” He bent down and grabbed Elizabeth around the middle.
“No!” Hadley yelled, just as Elizabeth let out a small gasp of surprise.
The pirate recoiled, “Begads! This one's still alive mate!” He drew his sword.
“No!” Hadley said again, grabbing his arm. The other pirate snapped his head towards the young man.
“That's...uh...” Hadley stuttered. Elizabeth looked up at him, fear present in her eyes. “It's a woman.” He said.
“Well all the more reason to run her through!” The pirate said, yanking his arm out of Hadley's grip. Hadley grasped Elizabeth's hand and drew her up out of the path of the other man's sword.
“She's a conquest...” He said suddenly, pulling her to him, “from our most recent battle.” The other pirate chuckled.
“The Captain let ye keep her did he?”
“Um...no, I didn't inform him.” Hadley replied weakly. The pirate narrowed his eyes.
“Ye'll be kissing the gunner's daughter for that little indiscretion boy!” He said, jerking Elizabeth out of Hadley's arms.
“No!” Hadley yelled, drawing his sword. The pirate paused, taking him in.
“Don't be a fool boy.”
“Let her go.” Hadley said firmly. The other man stared him down before turning to head below deck. Hadley charged toward his retreating back and brought the hilt of his sword down on the back of the pirates head. He released Elizabeth as his body fell loudly to the deck. Hadley groaned as shouts of alarm sounded from below deck. He turned to Elizabeth.
“Take one of the long boats and go!” He said, pulling her along with him to make ready one of the boats.
“What about you?” She said, grasping a line.
“I'll try to lie my way out of it. Don't worry about me, just hurry!” He said, hoisting the line to raise the boat up and over the rail. “Get in!”
Elizabeth clambered into the boat as Hadley began lowering it.
“Someone's knocked Timmons right off his feet!”
She heard Hadley curse above her as the boat hit the water.
“What do ye think ye're doin'?” One of the voices said. Elizabeth watched from below as Hadley drew his sword.
“It's a women! She escaping in one of the long boats!” The first pirate had regained consciousness.
“Kill the lad, he be a traitor among us!”
“No!” Elizabeth screamed as the current began to take her away from the ship. She scrambled to row closer to help the young man but it was no use. She heard a gunshot and looked up in time to see Hadley tumble over the side of the ship. As his body hit the water the remaining pirates gathered at the rail.
“What of the woman?”
“Leave her be. It's nearly sunrise mates, let's haul anchor and make ready to sail!”
The pirates abandoned the railing and commotion could be heard on deck.
Elizabeth hugged herself tightly, she'd just gotten a man...a good, decent man killed. Fearing the pirates would change their minds she grabbed the oars and began rowing towards shore. Suddenly she heard a splash behind her, accompanied by a gasp for air. She turned to see Hadley, struggling to stay above the surface of the water.
“Hadley!” She said, reaching out to grab one of his hands. She quickly pulled him into the boat and continued rowing. To her it seemed that she couldn't get to shore fast enough and by the time her feet touched sand Hadley's breathing had slowed considerably. She pulled his as gently as she could from the boat and let him down in the sand. The front of his shirt was stained red with blood and she could see the hole in his shirt where the bullet had pierced his shoulder. He began to mutter, coming to slightly.
“Where am I?” He groaned, trying to open his eyes.
“Shh, don't speak.” Elizabeth said, keeping him from moving too much. “You've been shot. I need to take your shirt off to see the wound.” She said, untying the sash around his waist and beginning to unbutton the shirt.
“No, don't!” He said weakly, grasping at her hands.
“Hadley I have to see if I can get the bullet out.” She said, shaking him off. He reached up and tore away the cloth covering his shoulder.
“There.” He said, breathing heavily. Elizabeth nodded and pulled a small knife from her belt.
“This is going to hurt.” She said, examining the wound more closely.
“It hurts now!” Hadley exclaimed. “Just do it.” Elizabeth nodded again and dug the knife in. Hadley screamed, causing Elizabeth to move even faster.
“I think I've got it.” She said, after what seemed like an eternity. She tilted the blade up and out of the wounded bringing the small piece of metal with it.
“I'm going to need to use your shirt to dress the wound.” She said, not bothering to listen to his protest as she ripped it open. She stopped short, noticing the cloth binding his upper chest. “We're you already injured?” She asked, her fingers moving more gingerly against his skin. “A broken rib or something?” She felt him shiver slightly.
“No.” He said faintly.
“Well then wh-” Elizabeth stopped, realization dawning on her features. “That's why you didn't sound the alarm. You're a women too.”
“Aye.” Hadley said weakly, her eyes fluttering closed.
“Hadley, stay with me!” Elizabeth said, grasping the womans uninjured shoulder.
“Don't worry.” She replied, “I'm not dying...just exhausted.”
Elizabeth smiled, moving so that Hadley's head lay in her lap. “Rest then, brave Hadley, and since I never got the chance to say it...thank you.”
“Thank you.” Hadley replied tiredly. “And it's Remy actually.”
“What?” Elizabeth asked.
“My first name is Remy. Remy Hadley.”
“It's a pleasure Remy, I'm Elizabeth. Elizabeth Turner.”
“Pleasure's all mine Miss Turner.” Remy said, her words rolling together as she drifted off.
Elizabeth refrained from correcting the other woman and instead replied in a whisper, “call me Elizabeth.”
