New Comm?

I come offering the notion of a new kind of land comm geared only for a certain fandom, or a certain type of fandom. A land comm is basically a community where members are divided into teams and take part in fulfilling certain challenges, usually varied amongst fan fic, art, captions, and games, to see who can reach a certain score point first, but though the members are divided and all are trying to bring their team to reach the goal first, they remained united in their love of the fandom. For the type of land comm I'm suggesting, members would still be divided into teams and would still be trying to see who could score the big number first, but the challenges would all be fic based. I'm thinking drabbles mainly, with 1 point for 100 word drabbles, 2 points for 200 word drabbles, and 3 for 300 word drabbles or longer fics. After all, why limit a story to a drabble if some one really wants to create something a little longer? It's all really for the love of the fanom, right? :-)

Now to the fandoms I'm looking at. First, there's the X-Men fandom. This would be solely based on the comic books. Fics based on the movies or the cartoons would not be allowed. Don't get me wrong: I immensely enjoyed First Class, liked Origins, and love all four cartoon versions. (Aye, I said four for those of you who haven't been with us for quite as long and/or don't know/recall the Pryde of the X-Men premiere). The thing is, it seems to me, and I know I'm not alone in this, that the movies and other versions of our beloved X-Men are overtaking the original comics. Though I've enjoyed the other versions, it's still the comics I love most, and I'd really like to see them get more attention.

Secondly, there's Disney. The Disney comm would be open for all things Disney -- movies, cartoons, TV shows, etc. As long as it's Disney, it's good. :-)

Third, there's the Supernatural themed comm. This would be open to all Supernatural beings and their allies. I'd imagine the teams to be something like Team Vampires, Team Werewolves, Team Witches, and Team Allies or some such, and the comm would be open to all characters and fandoms who have something/anything to do with the Supernatural.

Another point I'm pondering, especially as in the cases with the possible X-Men and Disney comms, is that we could even let people sign up as being characters, sort of like in a role play style. Then they could focus their fic on that particular character, and gain an extra point for doing so, but still could write for other characters if their Muses spoke to them more for other characters at that time. Any one could still write for any character they desired, but they'd gain an extra point for writing for "their" character.

Now, the thing is, I'm not stupid enough to think I can pull this off all on my own. I would be looking for people to help me. Speifically, I'd like to see each of the various teams (either 3 or 4 teams) have a Team Captain, and each Captain play a role in keeping the comm actively and smoothly running. For example, if we have four Captains, and I'll gladly lead a team myself, there could be a Captain who would most the challenges, a Captain who would be responsible for keeping the comm's page and lay out up to date and fresh, a Captain who'd be in charge of creating, managing, and sorting tags as needed, and a Captain (probbaly the one I'd do, unless some one else wanted the position) to keep track of all the points the members of each team, and each team in total, earn. Duties could even be toggled around, if desired. I'm not picky on that; I just know better than to try to tackle something like this myself.

Of course, an added bonus of signing for being a Team Captain would be that you could name your team and, if we take the character route, have a chance to choose your character before the regular members.

I'd also not expect to be putting any limitations on what members could write for their challenge answers, BTW, so we're going to be a legal age only crowd. If members want to post PWPs or bizarre pairings or whatever, as long as the proper ratings and warnings are there, the fic stars at least one of the characters who should be included in the comm (an X-Man, a Disney character, or a Supernatural being or alley), and succeedings in answering the challenge, I have no complaints with any fic being posted. Love your pairings, and let others love theirs. :-)

So . . . Any interest?
