Ooh, who was this man? Was it Norrington? This intrigues me.

Ahah! I didn't even think of that. It was meant to be Will (the other Will, the Will who is his dad- you know, I'm stating to think those writers who ignored the credits and went with the name 'Jamie Turner' were more sensible, despite the fact that I'm never sure about 'Jamie' for the period (or English-English generally, actually), it makes these things much clearer... (Oh- this isn't necessarily the same verse as One Last Great Betrayal- if it is, then those events haven't happened yet anyway...! (Still, if you want the man to be James...)

Perhaps if Small Will had taken any notice of how the strange man hugged his Mum, it might have been more obvious- whatever the toy was, it was clearly far more interesting than whatever the grownups got up to- for which reason, only when he's about 9 does the other shoe drop...

That makes sense. I don't know why, but it didn't immediately jump to mind that because the fair took place ON the ice, it would be dad! Will who put in an appearance. Love it!

Very dear story and I knew! which Will. He would have been distracted becos of the toy, hence his later chagrin, since he prides himself on paying attention. Good little read about a part of Will's life unknown.

Thank you! Yes, still-very-young Will would be furious with himself (and rather embarrassed) that he missed the significance of the occasion.
