Rating: PG
When: this week
Where: the beach
Summary: Kite splits coconuts, Yuushi discovers cross dressing
Thunk. Perfect halves yet again. He picked up another thick shelled coconut and placed it on the flat rock he had found. Once more, he took a small breath, focusing on the object before his hand moved. A easy move. Okinawan karate. The knife hand. He could break board and cement blocks. A coconut wasn’t much of an opponent for him. Thunk. The two halves fell into the basket he had found, the milk draining out to another receptacle under it. Kite could be at this all day. Or at least until it grew too hot even for the native islander. Thunk. He had a pile more and a plan ahead of him.
Wandering along the shore line, pants rolled up to above his knees and simple white shirt fluttering in the breeze Yuushi was really making the most of the island experience so far. Granted sleeping in Shishido's man cave on the pilfered couch with his team mate less than an arm's reach away was not the MOST comfortable sleeping accomodation but also far from the worst. Also there were of course, always the people, hurrying this way and that, embroiled in their little dramas and adventures, truly a never ending caleidoscope of humanity that never ceased to amuse him. And speaking of people...catching sight of a firm, toned form further down the beach Yuushi raised an eyebrow before breaking out into a smirk that could almost pass as a smile. There was one of his current interests, labouring in the sun for all to see and that alone, even if he had not requested a nice pair of split coconuts, would have been enough to draw the tensai closer.
His borrowed shirt from Chitose lay neatly away from the task so that the sun could warm his already tanned back. Pants that had seen far too long in the jungles hung dangerously low at the hips. He didn’t care. At the moment, Kite was focused. He was always focused. Each task was a task worth doing right. A single minded push to do whatever it took. It had kept him alive before he had found the others. It had been his way of life even before that. Whatever it took. He made no apologies and accepted none. And right now, his task was clear. He had quite a few more and had just set another on that stone when he heard the fine shuffle in the sand that wasn’t the natural shift from the wind. A person was approaching. He didn’t turn around, but it was clear, there would be no sneaking up on him. He was already on guard. His back might be open, but an attack from behind would be the last thing that person ever did. “Can I help you?” Thunk. It was said in the same tone as Do go away.
"Ah, Kite-kun." Yuushi smiled at the broad, bronzed back and took the liberty to assess the rest of the Okinawa's fit body. "Do forgive me, I hope I'm not interrupting you?" He continued walking closer and cirlced Kite until he was facing the man's sharp profile. "It seems you've already been busy at work so early in the day."
He didn’t seem to change his stance at all, but somehow what had been an obviously dangerous stance became something perhaps a little more inviting. Not that he ever dropped his guard. He wasn’t one to trust quickly, but he was pleased that the other had decided not to stay behind him. People at his back really bothered Kite, quite a bit. Once more, his hand went efficiently though a thick shell before he quit completely to turn his attention of the Osakan. “You aren’t. I invited you, Oshitari.” He reminded, before crossing his arms over his chest. He only barely smirked. “Here? I’m always at work. Unlike some pampered peacocks.” He doubted people like Atobe Keigo would ever stoop to digging in the dirt with Yukimura or crashing through the jungle covered with blood from a recent kill. And he almost had a feeling he was facing yet another pampered pet of the local royalty.
"Ah." Yuushi smiled despite the dig at Atobe, he really was getting quite used to those. "So I see." Walking over he took Kite's stopping as an invitation to inspect the splitted coconuts. "You're doing a very good job, I have to give you that." Picking half a coconut up he gave it a curious once over. "And with your bare hands too - most impressive, really."
The dig was most intentional. Kite never held his punches, even when speaking about others. He had very little respect for a diva who complained about a comfortable bed. Luxury wasn’t something anyone could really afford anymore. It just annoyed him that in such a situation, a captain, any captain would think more about themselves and their own comfort than that or their teammates or the others. Not that he was very different. Her really didn’t think about the comfort of others. But he did care minutely about their survival. Thus why he’d planted that garden with Yukimura’s help. Why he helped to build those shelters and why he hunted for more than just himself. Even this, he was going to share. Keep his arms crossed, he watched the other megane inspect his work. He knew a compliment when he heard it. Yet he still brushed it off. He knew his was strong and skilled in the martial arts. He had the national title to prove that. “It’s actually pretty easy compared to breaking cinderblock.” He picked up another of the round nuts and placed it on the rock. “I’d show you a trick to it, but it might break your hand.” He focused again. “If none of those suit your purposes, I have a pile there you can pick from.”
"Ah thank you." Yuushi chuckled, juggling a few of the fresh coconut halfs. "But I think I will wait with risking potentially injuring myself until we've graduated past a man in a cave." Deciding on two smooth and well rounded halfs he held them up to his chest. "What do you think Kite-kun, almost as good as real, no?" Admittedly that was an odd statement coming from the man who had apparently swum to the island with a taifun at his back.
He watched the other male juggling. He frowned a little. He was sure that Oshitari had just called him a cave man. He had already been called Tarzan. And really, it was true. He had de-evolved quite a bit. A part of him wanted to go to this silly, childish reading just to get some of his culture back. The scowl barely quirked at the addition of coconuts on his companions chest. He almost said he wouldn’t know. He didn’t much care about things like female anatomy. “You’re missing the palm leaf skirt.” He stated, drolly.
Glancing down at his leg Yuushi chuckled. "Your right...and since these are my only pair of pants I might have to change that at some point in the near future." Pressing the coconut halves together he tested whether they would stick back together on their own. "Though somebody mentioned lovely pink curtains that could be fashioned into a tunic or something of that sort. I wonder if they survived the storm?"
The Okinawan dropped his arms and held up a finger in front of the other. “We can use those curtains for kindling or bandages… give me a moment.” he was then striding past. Unlike Oshitari, he made almost no sound on the sand. He was heading towards a palm tree. A second or so later, he was climbing the tree as if it was nothing and then he dropped to the ground again, holding a bunch of fronds. With deft hands, he started to fashion a skirt out of them. He never got to use his fashion expertise. Now was his chance. “All you need it a lei.”
"Very nice" Having observed Kite curiously as he'd woven the skirt Yuushi had to admit he was impressed. Taking the leafy green garment he held it up against his waist before raising an amused eyebrow at the Okinawan. "What do you think, is green my colour?"
Once more, he crossed his arms over his chest and pushed his glasses up a bit. He supposed Yuushi did look rather good in green. But he wasn’t about to admit to anything like that. He rather not give a self-proclaimed tensai any sort of ammunition against him. “I think it will suit your purposes.” He stated rather coolly before returning back to his former task. “Use them in good health, Oshitari.”
"Thank you Kite-kun, I most certainly will." Yuushi smiled his thanks then set his choice of coconut bra parts down to push his pants down his hips
Kite didn’t even bother to turn his back. He just stood there a moment to look at the other. Only after a moment of a good eyeful did he turn around and return back to his task. “I’ll make sure I tell Sengoku I saw a hula girl. It’ll make him happy.” Thunk. He was back to splitting coconuts.
"Ah, that would be somewhat counter productive." Tugging the skirt up Yuushi gave his hips a test swish. "Then we would have to kill him for hurting Jirou."
Kite merely shrugged. “I wouldn’t know.” Seriously, he wasn’t one to keep up on the rumors and the hook ups. It didn’t concern him who was liking who. A part of him might be a bit jealous that some had found such companionship on the island. But he was okay. He was a wolf without his pack. He wasn’t ready to go insane though. He wasn’t rabid or hungry quite yet. “But if there is killing to be done, let me know. I’m getting very good at it.” Thunk.
"I'll keep that in mind." Yuushi picked his pants up and gave them a little shake to rid them of the worst of the sand that had attached itself to them before stepping closer again. "That reminds me, what are you planning to do with all those coconuts?" Granted they were a decently sized group but going by the amount of already halfed coconuts and the determination Kite was working with they would all have to eat coconuts and nothing but coconuts for a solid week in no time flat.
The Okinawan paused and then smirked just a little more. He picked up a half. “The husks will make good dishes. The meat and the milk…” He paused and the look on his face was almost playful. “Have you heard of coconut wine?” He pointed to the little container under the big one. “Well, that’s what I’m planning on making. It’s not top shelf, but it tastes amazing.” Most things that the islander knew were like that. Wild. Exotic. But ultimately pretty good.
"Really now." Yuushi liked his lips and eyed the container appreciatively. "Any chance you might let me try it when you're done?" Glancing back up at Kite he smirked wryly. "I'd love to have a taste."
The Okinawa just nodded a little. He almost smiled at the question. He wasn’t one to keep something from someone. He wasn’t stingy. He wouldn’t horde, even if the other stashed away the top shelf stuff for themselves and their friends. Kite wouldn’t do that. Though he was a bastard, he also knew it was no fun to get drunk alone. The idea itself made him miss the fireside nights on the beaches with his team, when they snuck the booze from Yuujirou’s family’s liquor store. “It’ll be done in a week or so. When it is, I’ll let you have more than just a little taste. Though I do warn you. This isn’t like wine. This is moonshine. It’s got a kick.”
"I can handle it." Smirking confidently Yuushi straightened and snagged another pair of coconut shells. "In case I want to be wild and change my style." He explained with a wink."But now, I'm afraid I have to leave you, unless there is anything I can give you a hand with."
He was suspect about that, but he’s let Yuushi believe that if he wanted. He watched the other take another set and just shrugged. Two less wouldn’t hurt him any. “That’s fine and no, I don’t think you can. Unless you think you can do what I was just doing?” He meant the very few coconuts left. “You have fun and let me know when that reading is…I might show up, if I have nothing better to do.”
"I'll get back to you on the coconut splitting but the reading should be this weekend, after sunset. I'll look forward to seeing you.... there." Yuushi inclined his head to Kite with another smirk before turning and saunter back up the beach the way he had come, pants folded over one arm and fresh coconut halves cradled in the other while his new palm skirt swished smoothly around his legs.
