Deploy Isn't a Noun

Sep 12, 2005 08:32

... or so Microsoft Word tells me with its cold, callous, squiggly green line of grammatical rigidity. If that is so, then kindly explain to me, Mr. Gates, why I woke up at 5:freaking:30 this morning to be at work for an 8:00 deploy, will you?

Verb my ass! [Warning: Not a Mad-Lib.]

dan, i'm afraid i have to agree with mr. gates on this one. deploy is most certainly not a noun. but deployment is. either way, it sucks that you had to be awake at 5:freaking:30 this morning.

... I know deployment is the noun. You deploy a deployment. But seriously, man, get with the times. People verbify nouns all the time; haven't you ever asked somebody to text you? Haven't you verbified? Why not the opposite? Why can't I nounify? (My brain isn't in full swing yet -- I'll post some examples later.)

Also, everyone calls them "deploys" around here. If I start saying "deployments," even in a grammar-checked email, I'll hoity-toity myself into a corner.
