Boys and girl

Jan 02, 2011 16:33

Okay, so my sister, who's bred rats before, has sexed the babies. According to her there are 7 boys and only 1 girl. This makes me question her accuracy, but whatever. If you give one of them a boy's name and it ends up being a girl, well, so be it. Nothing wrong with transgender babies. Also I dropped one, so it may end up with an intellectual ( Read more... )

...It seemed to be okay afterwards? Babies are resilient, right? They are well padded and have flexible bones...

You should name one. Because I like you.

I'm surprised Kass still allows you to handle her babies after such brutish behaviour... Though you should probably watch out when you're asleep.

Hm, okay! Then I'll think of a really ridiculous German pet name! \o/

Try to make it one I can pronounce!

I think Kass wouldn't mind so much if I took a few and failed to give them back. Eight kids is a lot to look after. I don't know how many times a day she feeds them, but it's A LOT.

We'll see~ :D

I just googled a bit and they say, 10 babies are the average. 10! Imagine that! o__o

Did everyone from the list chose "their" baby or should I just throw a name at you and you decide which one of them has to bear it?

Eh, close enough. 50% of them did, and the rest are taking too damn long. Go ahead and pick one! They need names!

Is the third one from the right still free?

Yup! What would you like to name him?

the big moment is finally here, little baby rat third-from-the-right! From now on, you shall be named:

Klecks!
[pronounciation/translation, just click on one of the speakers on the right and you'll hear "der Klecks"]

Which is a cute, yet totally manly and while not that innovative still fitting name for a little rat such as you are. I leave Tatoe to do the actual naming ceremony as we'll probably never see each other face to face. Still, do you best to become as fearless as your mother and as whatever-he-is-I-don't-know-because-Tatoe-never-talks-about-him-as-much your dad.

*cries a bit*

:D

Rhyming it with 'sex' is probably the closest I can get to the correct pronunciation... not that there is anything wrong with that!

What does it mean, if anything? It are German name?

What does a naming ceremony involve?

I never talk about Em because Kass is just way more interesting. Em's job is looking pretty.

... that's surprisingly accurate, the rhyme. ;)

It's a German pet name, yeah. Like, one of the more common ones - not THAT common, but no one would look at you strangly for naming a pet this way -, if you have an animal with some kind of differently coloured spot somewhere. I like to think it's the less fluffy and less cliched version of "Pünktchen" (akin to "Spot", only the diminutive), but I didn't want you to have to write the "ü" all the time. WELL, Klecks is much better. For a male rat anyway. :)

Naming ceremony. Hm. I only know the traditional ones, you know, some fancy words, a dab of water on the forehead. You could do something adventurous though. I mean, how often do you get to name eight babies in one go? ... Just try not to throw them around too much, until we see how the fallen one turns out. ;)

Em's job is looking pretty.
Ah, a quality many males have lost. Kass, keep that one!

Hmm, like a Christening? Do I really want Christian rats? I'm not sure how a rat would express religious affiliation...

Tomorrow I shall give Klecks strokings :)
