Ok so I officially hate the cameron village library.
Here's the story:
At the end of last school year I checked out a book from the library and didn't give it back until the end of summer because every time it would get overdue the library would call and be like "do you want to renew it? press 1" so I'd always renew it and then it wouldn't seem to matter that it was overdue and I wouldn't turn it in. So when I finally did I had built up $7.90 worth of fines from that book and a bunch of others and while I was pissed that I had to pay so much I did it so that I could start with a clean slate with the library.
Then a couple weeks ago I checked out Bridgit Jone's Diary on cds to listen to in the car on the way to and from rehearsals and I didn't talk to anyone at the library that time.
When I went to return BJD I didn't want to just throw it in the return box in case it fell open and the cds fell out everywhere so I went up to the returns desk and returned it to them. After I did so the lady was like "ok you're set" which I took to mean no problems with my account. At this time I also checked out Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
Today I went to return ELaIC and get some other book and I also went to the returns desk instead of dropping it in the box for the same reason as before. The lady was like you have $7.90 worth of fines to pay off. I was like "what was that on?" thinking maybe BJD had been really late and I didn't realize it. And she was like "I'll print up a list for you" when she did it had all the books I had already paid fines on including the one I had out for the whole summer. I told her my story about how I had already paid those fines but she just looked at me like I was an obnoxious complainer who was trying to get out of supporting the library. So I was finally like "fine I'll just pay the $8, it doesn't really matter all that much" and she was still looking at me funny, but I was also like "does it say now that I have no fines due?" And she was like "Yes of course I cleared your fines now" like "how could you think I was so dumb" and I was like "oookkayy" because obviously I would be worried about something like that after what had just happened to me.
So I had to pay $16 to the library when I really only owed $8 for a book I only sort of read. If they didn't have books on tape I would never go to that fucking library ever again. Stupid library.
