This Chik-Fil-A thing is really interesting to me.
I think that people should be free to be assholes. If you want to say "Hey, I'm a douchebag!" and all of the other douchebags say "Hey, me too! I'm going to shop at your store!" Then whatever. I'd like to believe that there are a greater number of reasonable humans than unreasonable ones, so things like this should work themselves out. I'm sure that's why so many other "Christian" shopowners open their shops on Sunday- if you can't compete with the other shops due to your religion, it seems like most people in America go with their livelihood, rather than their god. I hadn't heard anything about discrimination in hiring, so, if that's the case, that's something else entirely...but it feels, from what I know, like a freedom of speech issue. All of the argument seems weird; are you trying to get him to say he's changed his mind? I guess the difficult part is that, if you take my position a bit further, you're presented with the question of whether I feel like shops should be able to selectively serve customers based on race...and I don't think that. I guess the issue is convincing people that being homosexual isn't a choice, any more than being handicapped or male or Indian is a choice, and it's bigotry to an equivalently despicable degree to be homophobic as to be racist.
