who put skittles in my coffee?

so today was the day we got our rough drafts back in english class, with notes and comments, for our first writing assignment. after the instructor handed them back to most of the class, he said anyone who didn't get theirs returned was to talk to him after class. geez... was it that bad? i know i shouldn't put it off until the night before it is due, and then write about a book i haven't read in years, but i thought it was at least presentable, as a first draft.

so i wait while he talks to a few other people, and then he calls me in last. he starts with "well... there's really no easy way to say what i'm about to say..."

shit. how bad could it be?

"this paper is p h e n o m e n a l. i've only seen one paper this good in a freshman-level english class before, and it turned out to be plagiarized"

stunned silence.

so he asked about my experience writing before this class, quizzed me about the book (one of his personal favorites, it so happens) and aspects of the paper, and eventually congratulated me on doing a good job. then he gave me back my rough draft without a single mark on it, and said, "you can revise it if you want, but as it is now, it's an A paper."

then he tried to convince me to be an english major. i told him i was a terrible reader, and i barely ever finish books unless they particularly interest me.

anyway, dammit.

now i have to write good papers all quarter.
