i finally watched punchdrunk love last night. i watched it by myself, because my unmarried friends all seem to think it's fun to act like they're married. or maybe they're not acting like anything - maybe they really are super flaky and boring and just prefer to work in pairs. oh well. netflix seems to be a reliable enough companion.
anyway, the movie: what a great movie. i love movies that can make me feel phsyically awkward and uncomfortable, go from happy to disaster and vice-versa instantly without seeming too contrived, have lots of conflict with no obvious villain, and still manage to arrive at a happy ending without making me want to roll my eyes and barf. i also really liked the way the camera movement, overlapping fragmented conversations, and distracting background noises created a thick fog of chaos for certain scenes to take place in. and, i liked that there wasn't some stupid, fake, hollywood-hot, a-list bimbo chick playing the object of desire. that would have ruined it. anyway, i was quite impressed.
i'm glad i watched it alone. i didn't have to explain the harmonium to anyone.
