What an evening. Shishido took his dog and left home in the middle of dinner. He couldn't take all the discussion, not when it started to involve his boyfriend, so before he snapped and yell at his parents, he did what he had done many times before... walked out. And he walked a lot, probably for hours until he found himself sitting by the kids playground at Hinokicho park.

"C'mon Taji...” he called after his dog as he hung up the phone and began to walk towards one of the park's entrances. He would have sat there the whole night, despite the weather, if it hadn't been for Fuji replying to his journal wanting to come to meet him and Jirou for offering his place afterwards so he could crash. One thing was certain, he wasn't going back home, not that night anyway.

In a way it was sad, Fuji thought, that he so openly searched for a reason to get out of the house, even in the middle of the night like this. Shishido had been convenient, a reason to head outside. Not that he didn't mean what he had said when he had written to the Hyoutei player; he was worried, but it was also a way to see to his own means. He silently closed the door to the villa and made his way over to his bike, heading toward the park.

After a while he arrived, and after parking his bike and locking it up carefully, he whipped out his cell phone and began typing to Shishido, telling him that he had arrived and was waiting by one of the gates. As he waited, he walked over to a vending machine and popped in a few coins, taking out the can of coffee that rattled down the chute. Cranking it open, he walked over to a bench and sat down, waiting.

Suddenly, an old and chewed tennis ball rolled past Fuji's foot, followed by a big furry dog that lazily walked towards it to pick it up. Poor dog must have been exhausted from all the night walk, he looked like he had very little energy left on him, but like his owner, he was determined to get the ball, even if he had to walk to it.

"Fuji...” Shishido said, as he approached the bench. "I can't actually believe you came all the way here.”

"Hey there, boy," Fuji said cheerfully, holding his hand out to the dog so that he could greet properly. He didn't look up as Shishido spoke, but a smile played over his lips as he gave a small shrug. "Well, I said I would, didn't I?"

The dog waved his tail tiredly and sniffed Fuji's hand before sitting down, then curling up by the bench. Shishido took off the hair tie he had around his wrist and tied his hair back, raising an eyebrow at Taji. "Tch... lazy dog...” he sat down next to Fuji. "He likes and trusts everyone, it's kinda pathetic.” But that said, the older teen smiled, not resisting petting the dog on the head.

"Just a proof that he's well loved," Fuji said calmly, now looking at Shishido, smiling at him. "I always wanted a dog. We never did... But we did have bunnies at one time, but I barely even remember that." He leaned down to give Taji a quick kiss on the wet nose, and was greeted with a wet dog kiss back. "... Oh my."

"He's fucking spoiled, that's what he is...” Shishido complained lightheartedly crossing his arms and leaning back on the bench. "Why don't you get a dog, if you like them?”

That's how it was at his house most of the time. If he and his brother wanted something they would go and get it, but they had to work for it and use their own money. Shishido couldn't remember how me managed to save up for Taji, since it happened back in middle school and he didn't work back then, but somehow he did and his parents never said a thing.

"I'd say spoiled is a good thing in a dog," Fuji said cheerfully, petting the exhausted dog between the ears. His reward was Taji plunking down his head in his lap, looking up at him with an unreadable expression in his big, brown eyes. "You like that, don't you? ... And ah, well... My parents never allowed it. They didn't think we'd have the time to care for a dog; you know, taking it out for walks and all that."

"That's bullshit.” The long haired teen replied, watching as Fuji and Taji interacted. "Parents always have the crappiest excuses. At least for the most part, mine say do whatever you want if you pay for it.” Money had always been an issue at the Shishido household, and probably the main reason why his parents were constantly ignoring each other or yelling at one another. "And if i have time to take my dog for walks and stuff, anyone has.” Shishido was one busy teenager, between school, tennis practices, job, other sports and writing, it was impressive he still had time to spoil his pet.

Fuji thought for a moment. "Well, that makes you rather good at handling economic things, I take it?" He wondered what it was like, attending Hyoutei when you weren't the cream of the crop yourself. If he remembered correctly, Shishido came from more modest environments. Or was that Taki? He never could get that straight. Oh well... It would be rude to ask, and it would be rude to simply assume things as well, so the best way to handle this was probably to keep from bringing the subject up at all.

It hadn't been easy for him or for his brother to study at Hyoutei since they were very little. Looking at whatever his classmates had, and the cars their parents drove, talks about their holidays abroad... nothing of that was easy. He had hated almost everyone, and probably did still hate some, but he learned how to behave like a Hyoutei not to be humiliated by them. Yet, he had never felt so belittled in his life like he did at certain moments at that school.

"Uhm?” Shishido sounded and turned towards the other teen with an inquisitive stare, wondering what the other teen meant, and not because he was upset, he simply didn't get it. "I just... keep myself busy, I like it like that. If I'm busy then there's less time to think about my problems, and this way I don't have to deal with them until I really have to, you know.”

Fuji nodded. Yes, distractions were good. But even better if said distractions proved to be useful assets in the future, right? He then thought that pushing your problems away like that probably wasn't the best thing you could do however; problems had a tendency to line up and then crash down on you like an avalanche if you weren't careful. "Do... Do you have a lot of problems?"

Shishido decided then that Fuji asked very strange questions, but that one in particular got him thinking. Did he have a lot of problems? Maybe he had pushed them so far back in his mind that he couldn't remember straight away, so he took his time. "I'm not entirely sure,” he said, itching the side of his head. "I guess... I don't think about them so I forget. I have my parents who are not very present and when they are there they are not supportive, they don't even know I date a guy and I'll have more problems with them once they find out,” he thought a bit more, ".. brother, that stupid school, work, no money for university... I can ignore them all and I usually do. I don't have time to waste with that, there are a whole bunch of stuff I like doing, so I do them and forget the shitty stuff.”

The slender blonde got to his feet and took a swig from the coffee can while he studied Shishido from the corner of his eye. He wouldn't call it a simple way to live life. It wasn't exactly his way, but it wasn't simple, even if the execution came about as fairly simplistic. Don't think about it, then it goes away. But Fuji had a hunch it was more a matter of Shishido trying to find the best way to keep his head above water. Fuji emptied the can and threw it into the garbage bin that was placed beside the vending machine, deciding to focus on the most positive thing Shishido had informed him about. "I didn't know you had a boyfriend? Who is it?" He wasn't going to assume it was Ohtori, even if it seemed plausible. Who knew? It could very well be someone else.

‘Keeping his head above water', that was exactly what Shishido tried to do, and indeed, sometimes it wasn't simple or easy, but despite his reputation and how some people perceived him, harmony was something very important an necessary for the Hyoutei student.

When Fuji moved, Taji stood up and lazily dropped the tennis ball by Shishido's feet. Automatically, the teenager sat up, picked the ball and threw it, following with his eyes as his dog chased after it. "Choutarou... ” he replied in a quiet tone, his cheeks going slightly red. It hadn't been that long and most people already knew because of how obvious it all seemed to be, but telling others wasn't something Shishido was yet accustomed to. "It's because of what he gave me for my birthday that this shit happened today.”

Fuji too watched the dog give chase, a small, amused smile on his lips. Lazy, or just plain weary as he might be, the dog was adorable. He glanced over at Shishido, looking at him sideways as he spoke. So, it really was Ohtori then, was it? How... typical. But also sweet, in some way. He guessed he was happy for them. As happy as he could be, given what little part he had in their lives... "What did he give you? And... Was it something wrong with the gift?"

"Wrong?” Shishido's dark blue eyes turned to Fuji. "Not exactly... he just...gave me a car. Not just a second hand cheap old car. It's a new very expensive sports car.” He sighed and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his legs. It was a crazy gift, he knew it well, and in all honestly Choutarou shouldn't have given him something like that. But his parents agreed, they were happy to let Choutarou spoil him, but Shishido's parents had a very different view on the matter.

"And... That wasn't accepted by your parents? Or...?" A car? Right, they were at that age. Maybe he should try and see if he could take driving lessons... He should try and focus now, however.

"Of course not.” The older teen raised an eyebrow and paused for a moment. "My dad,... I don't know, he said he was disappointed in me, but he's usually reacts because my mom torments him. She, on the other hand...” She has said so many bad things, Shishido was trying not to remember them to avoid any more anger.

He didn't reply, merely walked over to the vending machine and popped in a few coins. "What do you like?" He pointed at the different beverages in the machine. While waiting for a reply he mumbled: "She... Was worse, I take it?" He shrugged. "Anyway, uhm. How long have you and Ohtori-kun been dating?"

"Uhn?” He sounded, looking over at Fuji. "Coffee...?” That wasn't really a park he was accustomed to go, he had no idea what those machines had. He turned away again, towards his dog as he returned. Like before, the furry animal dropped the ball at his feet, and Shishido threw it further away once more. "She wasn't worse... she is worse... and well... hm” he searched his memory, "... not that long, though, it's Choutarou, we have always been close since middle school.”

He decided to order himself another coffee as well, and after he tossed one can over to Shishido, he sat down with the other, taking a thoughtful sip of it. "Another one of those relationships that people have just waited for, is it?" Fuji's tone was somewhat tired, but with a small hint of amusement to it. "Sort of like our Golden Pair. I don't think anyone was surprised when they hooked up. You know them, right? Are you still friends?"

It was one predictable pairing and Shishido knew that pretty well. Apparently even Hyoutei fangirls were expecting it to happen. Maybe things would have happened earlier, but to Shishido's eyes, Choutarou was still young... more experienced than him, for sure, but he was still sixteen after all. "I guess...” he replied, giving Fuji a thankful nod for the coffee and opening the can. He looked away though, talking about Choutarou and their relationship was a lot more awkward than saying how much of a moron his mother was. "I sort of caught up with Kikumaru at the international tournament a little, but Oishi wasn't there so... I haven't been really in touch, though, I should I guess...”

He couldn't help but notice that Shishido seemed to clam up as soon as the subject shifted more to his and Ohtori's relationship. Maybe it wasn't a subject he ought to press on then... Instead he looked around, watching a couple who walked by on the path next to them. They seemed to be in their twenties, and very much occupied with each other. Me and Hato could never walk together like that, he thought. Then again, did he want to? Probably not. Yeah, relationships probably wasn't the appropriate subject for the night, for either of them. "Yeah, maybe... Did you drive here?"

Shishido turned to Fuji as he sipped from some of the coffee, then laughed as soon as the sip was done. "No!” he said amused, chuckling a little more. "I have no licence and different from Choutarou, I don't have a fake one either, so for now, I can't. I speak out with the car a little bit, but I don't wanna get caught. Taji and I actually walked all the way here.”

Fuji caught onto one little detail there. "Ohtori has a fake card?!" He couldn't help but laugh. "That's... Wow."

The older teen laughed a little more and nodded. "Yeah... Choutarou. Not as innocent as people think he is uhm?” It was funny, that old shy and insecure Choutarou was long gone. "And that's just the beginning of it. He drives a Lamborghini... that of course, his parents gave to him, so they know he has a fake licence.”

"... Life of the rich and the famous," Fuji mumbled, somewhere between impressed and somewhat intimidated. "I don't think I've ever even seen a Lamborghini in real life," he confessed with a wry smile. "I mean, not even driving down the street, you know? Then there's also the fact that I'm horrible at car brands, so... Maybe?" He gave Shishido a slow look. "... So, how many thinks you're dating him for the money?" He was curious, since he was dating Ichinose, and well... That guy was loaded.

Different from Fuji, Shishido was used to the rich and famous maybe. Having being next to Atobe for the past six years counted for something, and next to him, no one was ‘rich and famous' enough. But he gave the other teen a smile, more like a smirk though. "No, Lamborghinis are not that easy to come across, I hadn't touched one until I sat inside Choutarou's. They are fucking expensive too.” The question made Shishido frowne a little and he paused to sip from his, thinking about it. "Hn... I'm not sure. I'm a Hyoutei student, I play tennis with Atobe, they assume you are just as loaded as they are. But I think my mom will definitely be one of those when she finds out we date.”

"... I bet you can't wait to be twenty, huh?" Neither could he, really not. He had to wonder why so many of them seemed to have problems with their parents anyway. Tezuka, Echizen, Tooyama, Shishido... And Fuji himself. He wondered if there were anyone else around as well. Probably. As depressing as that thought was, it still seemed far too plausible. "Is your mom just stuck-up, or a real bitch, or just... This sort of god-even-a-carebear-would-want-to-punch-her-face-in kind of person?"

Shishido has been drinking when Fuji spoke and he almost choked on it laughing. "Hahaha... all of the above?” He said and coughed, catching his breath before continuing. "They are weird... my parents. My dad is a teacher at Hyoutei Elementary, he's the type of person you just can't figure out because he doesn't speak much at all. My mother doesn't do anything... well, charity work, I guess... but she doesn't get paid, so I don't know, you would imagine she's... nice? But they hate each other, so obviously, they have no reason to like us either.”

"Sounds like a pain in the..." Fuji's face darkened suddenly as his cell phone started playing the opening theme of Higurashi no Naku no Koro Ni. "... Excuse me for a bit." He picked the phone up and started to talk while moving away from the bench, and Shishido. "Hey, dad. Yeah... Yeah, I'm... Yes. ... Yes. Oh, just a friend. Really. Yes. Mm. I'll be home soon." A few more words exchanged, and then he hung up, turning to face Shishido. "Sorry about that. Should have turned it off..."

Shishido followed the other teen until Taji came back again, needing more play. "What's the problem with you, uhn? I thought you were tired...” he told the his pet and threw the ball away once again. He couldn't help but overhearing the small conversation though. "Speaking of parents...” he assumed, "do they want you back already?” It was odd, the last time one of his parents called him was when they found out about Ren's line of work, and his mother called to yell at him for not telling her.

He gave a small, apologetic laugh. "Yes, afraid so. Dad wants me to hit the books~ Be all student-y and all, you know?" He sucked thoughtfully on the insides of his cheeks, studying Shishido. "Will you be all right though? Where are you going to sleep tonight?"

"He wants you to study right now? Lame...” he finished his coffee and looked around for a bin, standing up as soon as he found one. "Of course I am. I'll wait for another few hours, walk back hope when they are asleep, get my shit and go to Jirou. That's the plan.” He didn't have to say he would be sneaking in and out through windows, did he?

"Well, studies are important," Fuji said automatically, shrugging. "But... Wait out in the dark like this? Maybe you should go catch a movie or something." He sounded about as worry-warty as Oishi, he knew that, but... Tokyo night. Didn't sound like the safest place in the world, especially for a lonely kid. Even if he did have a dog with him.

He knew they were, the only way Shishido could go to university was if he got a scholarship, and for that he needed to study a lot... but not in the middle of the night. "It's fine, I've done it before.”

"Comforting." Fuji smiled slowly and then made a small bow. "Well... Anyway. Just wanted to check on you. So... Have to go now." Even if he didn't want to. He really didn't. "If you'd like... You could maybe call me tomorrow, or message me or something? Just so that I know you're alive." And just hoping that I'm alive tomorrow. Oh brother... "And... I have my bike outside the gate, so..."

"Dude... I'll be fine...” he insisted and stood up, "but yeah, sure, I'll drop you a text in the morning.” Taji suddenly came back again, but this time, without the ball. Shishido looked at him and petted his head. "Say goodbye to Fuji.”

"Good bye, Taji-chan," Fuji said, crouching down. "... Where is your ball? Did you lose your ball? I hope no one took it..."

"I probably thrown it too far away, I'll look for it when we walk back.” Shishido explained, knowing pretty well that his dog had issues. Taji, however, just gave Fuji a lick.

"Poor dear," Fuji chuckled, straightening himself up. He started towards the gates, waving. "Okay, talk to you tomorrow then. Good night, Shishido-kun~"

Shishido watched until Fuji was out through the gates. He still couldn't understand why he came all the way to see him, but he seemed like a cool guy, and Shishido liked having company anyway. "C'mon... lets find your ball...” he said turning his back and walking away.
