Summary: Finally fed up, Marui goes and bangs on Oshitari's door, intending to chew him out. Instead, they end up going out for ice cream and being somewhat nice to each other.
Marui stared determinedly at Oshitari's door, glaring at it as though the inanimate object was actually the man in question himself. He was a baby, still complaining and whining about something that had happened two weeks ago. An idiot who didn’t know when to shut up or even the right words to say. An asshole that had the nerve to inject in almost every conversation she had.
Oh, he was going to pay, Marui thought with a smirk as she banged on his door.
Oshitari heard a banging on his door and wondered who it was - as far as he knew Mizuki was probably busy dealing with...a certain drama caused by him. And, no one else came to mind. Casually he got out of his desk chair and walked over to the door. He opened it to find a familiar redhead standing before him, "And what brings you here?"
"You're an asshole you know that?" Marui snapped, barging into his room and plopping down on his bed. On second thought, ew, and instead decided to sit on his desk chair. "Seriously, I think you win for being the biggest jerk on campus."
"Oh?" Oshitari was simply amused by her. He tried not to burst into laughter, but instead regarded her as though he took everything she was saying very seriously, "And what have I done to earn such an honorable title?"
"What haven't you done?" Marui rolled her eyes at the other teen. It'd been kind of stupid to just come to his room to yell at him; after all, now she had to look at his so not attractive face. "Maybe be a pathetic loser who still whines to everyone he can about what I did to you?”
"Is that why your panties are in such a knot?" Oshitari asked, eyeing the other one. He closed the door now, casually behind him, clearly not caring about what the other one was saying, "I was merely warning Lucky-kun about the likelihood of you being a bitch," Ah, he definitely did enjoy looking at Marui. She was more than a little cute from his point of view, but for the moment he truly had other things on his mind than simply her.
"Panties aren't in a knot." Marui simply said, spinning herself around in Oshitari's chair. Probably a huge, giant waste of time because she highly doubted the guy she almost had sex with would ever truly understand; all men were idiots. "Think you're just jealous I outsmarted you."
He watched her spin around and let out a sigh, "Perhaps a touch. It's not often I lose at my own game," but she was boring him, "So, did you come here simply to whine or would you care to do something?"
"Came to punch you in the face." Marui said with a smile. "That cool with you?"
"Seriously?" He asked, completely caught off guard.
"Yuuuuuup." She pouted at him. "Got a problem with that?"
"What do -you- think?" He asked sarcastically, "Of course I do. Just a warning, I'll probably hit you back."
"You'd hit a girl?" The redhead countered, her tone sarcastic mock surprise. She stood up, squared her shoulders, and made eye contact with Oshitari. "That's such a shame."
"You're a girl?" Oshitari blinked as though extremely shocked, "This is news to me."
Marui blinked for a second before bursting out laughing. All she really wanted to do was punch him in the balls now instead of in the face, but that would mean she was playing his game. So instead she laughed, knowing it would throw him for a loop.
Laughter? That was unexpected, Oshitari thought and said, "If you really want me to stop harassing you over it - I will."
"Will you really? Because just like that seems like it'd be too easy for you."
"So are you saying I need some kind of another lesson?" He asked, removing his glasses and rubbing his eyes. If his mood were better perhaps he would have wanted to deal with Marui and her lovely body, but right now, he was a bit concerned about other things, "What are you planning on doing?"
"Nothing if you say you're gonna stop." Marui shrugged and sat back down. Oshitari looked...distracted, maybe the guy had issues just like everyone else. "Why're you so tired?"
"Fair enough," He responded rather relieved. He talked the talk, but when push comes to shove he doubted he could actually hit the girl. Oshitari put his glasses back on, "A lot on my mind. I made a decision for someone else, and I'm hoping it was the right one," he tried to explain, "Anyway, I find this room incredibly boring. Would you care to do something?"
"Since the decision was placed in your oh-so capable hands, I'm sure it'll be fine." Marui replied with a smile, popping out of the chair. Maybe they could be friends...really weird friends, but friends. Maybe. "Taking me out for ice cream sounds pretty good yes?"
"Haha, I don't know whether to take you seriously or if you're mocking me," He chuckled, "Ice cream? Sounds like a plan. I do hope there is some place in town that they make it home made. I love homemade ice cream. What's your favorite flavor?" Oshitari offered her a hand to walk with him.
Marui laced her hand with Oshitari’s; shooting him the first grin she'd given him all night. "Home made is definitely the best kind ever. Hey..." She took her other hand and punched him lightly on the shoulder like she'd do with the guys back home. "We actually agree on something. And as for my favorite flavor, I'll let you guess since you're so smart and all."
He took her tap with a smile and playfully squeezed her hand, "Hmm," he considered the girl, "Strawberry? By chance?"
"You might just be a genius after all." She gasped in mock surprise. "I don't know how you ever figured it out."
He chuckled, "And, Miss Genius, what's mine?"
Marui glanced up and down Oshitari, knowing the odds that it probably wasn't blueberry like the color of his hair. That was so not fair. "Ridiculously expensive blueberry ice cream mixed in with truffles of some kind, flown in especially for you from France. How close was I?"
He full out laughed, "You're a funny one. You were close in a way. Actually it's mint chocolate chip made with mint leaves flown in especially for me from England. On the side I require a certain type of desert wine, made from Vineyards in Italy. Kidding of course. Though I do enjoy mint chocolate chip."
"Must be nice." Marui teased slightly as they walked down the street. It was kind of nice to be out of the dorms, not thinking of a certain annoying girl or what had happened with her. "Having whatever you want at your fingertips."
"You make it sound as though I don't have to work for anything," Oshitari answered raising an eyebrow, and looking at her seriously, "Speaking of work, how are you doing at beating Kirihara? Have you any other plans for the poor young one?"
"Well do you? Besides me apparently." The redhead couldn't resist inserting the jibe before sighing. Did he really have to bring her up? "Nah not really." She shrugged her shoulders like she didn't care. "Don't really pay attention to her anymore."
"I think putting up with my father's demands is work enough, putting up with you on the other hand - can be amusing," Oshitari replied, rubbing at the crease appearing between his eyebrows, "Oh? That's probably a good thing," he decided that unless the other gave him firepower, he'd try not to bring up that touchy subject.
"Mmmm, it definitely is." Marui agreed, squeezing his hand. Hey, he could not be an asshole apparently...sometimes. "Don't have to deal with her yelling at me anymore." She smiled slightly, glancing at the taller teen. "Is your dad really that hard on you?"
He nodded in agreement, it would probably be better for the two girls to avoid any kind of contact, "He has high expectations for the heir to his company. When I have children, I am sure to be just as tough," he didn't say this looking for any kind of pity. To Oshitari it was simply fact and the way his life worked and always had been. He neglected to tell the girl about his father's slight physical abuse problem, but figured she didn't need to know that.
Marui couldn't help but snort as she thought of Oshitari's children. She had no doubt they'd be little flirty hellions...just like their father. It was odd to think of pressure from her parents like that; they often too preoccupied with the twin terrors to give her grades that much thought. "You might turn out okay I think." Marui quipped as they turned into an ice parlor. It was as close to a compliment as Oshitari would ever get. "Managed to get out of getting punched in the face; you can handle anything now."
Oshitari glanced down at her surprised at that slight compliment, "Thanks, I guess I did," Marui made him feel a bit odd. All he felt for her was clearly lustful, but she was definitely interesting, he opened the door for her, "After you."
"Thanks." She simply said as she walked. Ice cream had always, always been her weakness, and she found her feet already walking to stare into the display case. So many flavors...how many would Oshitari let her get away with getting?
"So, what would you like?" Oshitari asked gesturing to the many different flavors already knowing what he intended to get. He was a bit shocked at the so cheap prices but he figured that was to be expected, after all, this was a plebian parlor.
Marui looked over all the flavors once more before deciding. "Uh I want a super with that one, and that one, and oh that one too. It's really good. What are you getting?" The cheerleader didn't care if it made her seem like a fatass or whatever; she liked to eat and really what was the big deal about a girl who actually ate?
He raised a brow. He had no qualms about girls who ate lots, it was merely amusing to him to see someone not be all I only want a kid's sized this, who actually went into ice cream stores only wanting kids sizes anyway? No kid does - that's for sure, "Alright, I'd like two scoops of the Mint Chocolate myself," and he paid for the flavors, then took the cups with ice cream to a table, and pulled out a chair for her, then took a seat in the opposite one himself, "I'm impressed. You're not in any way, shape, or form fake are you?" He asked. Oshitari was used to people who were. He'd dealt with all kinds of them in his life - people faking happiness, people faking money, people faking this, that, and the other.
Digging into her ice cream, Marui didn't answer for a moment. The three flavors mixed deliciously in her mouth, and she decided that this was wayyy better than sex. Or making out with girls. Not that that was enjoyable at all to begin with. "Nope, not at all." Another scoop into her mouth. "What's the point of going through all that extra effort to lie?"
"Mm. I guess there isn't one. Perhaps they think it makes them look more attractive to the guy. You know, effort to be skinny or whatever? I don't really care though, I guess. I mean, I put up with people's masks all the time. I have a very skewed view of reality," Oshitari replied rather seriously as he elegantly scaled the ice cream with his spoon. It was surprisingly good, but certainly no where near some of the other ice creams he'd been blessed enough to have in his life.
"Comes with the prominent position I'm guessing you're in. Most girls see money, and you're not that bad looking so they probably all just fall at your feet. Must get pretty annoying after awhile." Another huge, unlady like scoop. "Explains why you were so upset though. Big baby." She teased gently.
"So there's nothing good about me aside from looks and money? Gee don't I feel flattered?" He asked rather hurt. But, he knew all of this himself already, even so, it hurt a bit coming from the mouth of another person, and then he smiled, perhaps this would be considered too far, but he was a bit more pissy than usual, and he had just bought her ice cream, taking another scoop onto his spoon, "Not as upset as you over me sleeping with your lady."
"Didn't say that's what I saw you idiot. Said most girls, not me." She smirked as she leaned over the table to flick his forehead on a whim. Defensive much? Maybe Marui had bruised his ego more than she thought she had. "And she's not my lady. That's gross." She pointed her spoon at him.
Well that comment surprised him, however, he was not about to allow himself to so easily be swayed by such a foul girl, "Fair enough. How've you been these last two weeks anyway? Since our encounter?"
"Besides being kind of pissed at you and Kirihara, pretty good." The cheerleader scraped some ice cream off the side of her bowl and placed it in her mouth. "What about you? Seems like you've been busy."
"That's good," he replied taking another spoonful of ice cream, "Yeah. I've done all kinds of things - gone camera shopping, played pranks," he thought a minute, "tutored, made a friend, got smashed," he could go on but he preferred to hear about the girl.
If I were truly a bitch, Marui thought, she would be recording all of this, dangling it above Oshitari's head and telling him she'd send it to his hardass dad unless he took her to England for his favorite kind of ice cream. But she wasn't, and they were being civil right now after all. "Got smashed? Tsk, tsk." The redhead teased softly.
"You don't drink?" Oshitari asked, genuinely surprised. He had figured Mizuki was merely an exception and was raised improperly, and asked seriously, "Am I like the only person who was raised that way?"
Marui couldn't help but let a giggle escape at Oshitari's reaction. Apparently, he didn't realize she was kidding. "I was teasing you, smart one." The cheerleader quipped, shaking her head at him. "If anything, I'm sad I wasn't involved."
"I'm not," he replied readjusting himself, "You are the last person I will ever let see me drunk. Tipsy? Perhaps. Drunk? Absolutely not."
"Why?" Marui's lavender eyes twinkled with amusement and curiosity. "Couldn't be because I'd never let you live it down, could it?"
"That, and Heaven knows what you'd make me do and I'd agree to while drunk. I rarely get drunk unless it's a party, usually I simply drink with dinner," Oshitari explained.
"I wouldn't make you do anything that bad you know." Savoring the last of her ice cream, Marui heaved a disappointed sigh as she realized it was all gone. "Not like you wouldn't do the same to me yes?"
"Care for some more?" He offered noticing that both of them had emptied their cups, he almost looked offended, "I don't take advantage of the drunk unless I'm out of control of myself. It's not my style."
"Well you were almost gonna hit me back, so I didn't know if I was an exception to the rules or something." Marui kidded as she handed Oshitari her empty cup. "That would be amazing. Thanks."
"Only to that rule. You have to be someone I'm sleeping with on a regular basis for me to sleep with you in such a situation. Not just some girl," which was not meant to be rude - but Oshitari hated guys that did things like that. He tossed his cup in the garbage and bought himself a soda, as well as had her cup refilled with the mixture of flavors. He handed it back to her and sat down popping open his grape Ponta.
"Nicer guy than I pegged you for you know." She was pretty sure the compliment came from the fact that he had just bought her ice cream twice and that the sugar was making her feel freakishly good.
He shrugged, "I have some sense of honor," the biggest family secret ever was his sister's rape. No one ever spoke of it, but it distinctly left a mark on him and although he was a playboy there were some things he could never do.
Marui didn't say anything in reply, instead playing with her ice cream, swirling it all around to mix the flavors before starting to mix it up again. Things were just too bizarre; she couldn't figure out the man next to her, and it was driving her crazy. But he was a tensai just like her, and maybe that's just how things were meant to be.
He took a rather large swallow from his soda, "So. What's the real reason you came to see me? Or was it simply to hit me?"
"Well that and to tell you that I thought you're an asshole." She grinned widely before taking another large spoonful of ice cream and sticking it in front of his face. "Aren't you glad I did though? Try it."
He smirked, how like this girl, "Sure," came his reply as he took the spoon from her and gave it a taste. Well, it was -different- but not in a bad way, "It's pretty good, actually," and he passed her back the spoon.
Taking back the spoon, Marui popped it right back in the bowl. Vaguely she wondered if someone like him would be appalled by her not so elegant table manners, before deciding that she didn't really care. At all. "Probably not as good as your English stuff. So have to let me try next time you get some in you know."
He chuckled, "It was a joke you know. But there is a fabulous ice cream company there. While we're in Europe we may as well stop in Switzerland though. They make fabulous ice cream and chocolate, as I'm sure you can imagine." It was expected of him to be familiar with what foods to get where - and which restaurants were in the know, "I'll be glad to take you. I'll just have to teach you some manners or I'll be the laughing stock," he answered poking fun at the girl across from him, and then he offered, "If you're finished, I'll take your bowl."
"I suppose I can be a pretty, polite quiet little thing for amazing chocolate and ice cream." Marui joked, half-glaring at Oshitari as she finished up her ice cream and slurping up the remains left in her bowl. Just because. "I'm holding you to that though. We're so going."
"Hope you've got money, I'm not paying for -your- ticket," He joked cringing at her intentional slurps, and then more seriously, "If you are truly interested - I'd be happy to take you."
"Kay, I totally like you now." Marui grinned, passing her bowl towards him. Trip to Europe with lots of free food? She probably would have said yes to anyone at that. "But do I really have to pay for my ticket? Don't you have a private jet or something?" She leaned closer with a mischievous grin. "I mean, do we really want to be stuck with the normal people?"
He leaned back away from her, "You think I'd want to put up with you for 7 hours on a plane? You're welcome to ride first class, but with me? That's a no," and he stuck out his tongue, "There's plenty of space on our plane. And obviously, our houses have plenty of room for a guest."
"So mean to me, but...."Marui trailed off softly, serious for probably the first time the entire night. She could totally see them in Europe, teasing the crap out of each other, and maybe pushing him off a mountain in Switzerland if he bothered too much. "I'd like that I think."
He eyed the other genius, and then smiled, she was hard to read at points, but over all, Oshitari was clearly amused by the other girl, "I think you'd humor my sister as well. Particularly with our sex-story. She'd tell you I've had it coming for a long time. Ugh. I can already see you teaming up against me," he groaned slightly, "It's a - " he considered saying 'date', but decided against it figuring if the trip went in that direction then he'd have no qualms about it, "plan then."
Marui laughed, wondering just what Oshitari's family would think about her. His sister sounded awesome that much she was sure of. "Next time you talk her, tell I say hello and that we have a lot to talk about." Marui winked at him; Oshitari was rather funny when he was slightly pissed off.
He gave her a look, "As if. If I'm lucky though, she'll teach you basic manners. Chances are that you'll have to eat in front of my mother and if you blow that once, you'll be sent to the servants quarters to eat, which I believe would qualify as poor treatment of a guest, no? The good news is that you won't have to eat in front of my Father," Oshitari mentioned the second part offhandedly. He could not imagine the shame his father would hold over his head.
Oshitari's family sounded slightly frightening, but.... she had made every family she'd met before this love her. And they were kind of paying for everything. Silly her for thinking it'd just be the two of them. "I can be a lady when I feel like it you know." A thought popped up into her head. "If I survive your family, you so get to meet mine. Because you're not gonna know what to do with yourself, and it's going to be hilarious."
He shrugged, "If you're lucky my mother will decide to spend the time in another house. I do hope you'd get the chance to meet my sister though. I think you'd find her quite interesting," Oshitari hated his sister and loved her. Rather how he both enjoyed the girl across from him and hated her at the same time, "I'd love to meet your family. How many siblings do you have? What are your parents like?"
"I have two younger twin brothers. Annoying as hell, obsessed with video games and squirt guns." The redhead rolled her eyes at the memories of her brothers attacking her in bed. So not cool. "My parents are nothing out of the ordinary. My mom will probably freak out if I bring you home, gush over you because she'll think you're my boyfriend no matter what I say. And my dad will probably glare at you, but he's pretty quiet. Surprising considering what he lives with."
"You forget that the ordinary for me and most people is rather different," He said as kindly as he could, "Oh? Should we mess with your Mother a bit or do you intend to deny such claims?"
Marui shrugged, not really caring either way. They grew up in practically two different worlds; she hardly doubted Oshitari understood the force that was her mother when it came to thinking about her future. On paper, the man across from her would pass with flying colors. But he drove her crazy half the time, there was no way they could work. "We can mess with her if you want. She'll kill me when we "break up" though."
"Should we have a 'fight' while I'm there?" He asked realizing he had didn't think he'd ever been a guest at another house other than those of people with incomes as high as his own.
Marui snorted at that thought, pushing her bangs behind her ears. "If you want my mother to sit us down and attempt to resolve our "issues", but you don't want that." The conversation they were having at the moment was amusing, very weird (they were talking about meeting each other's families after all), but amusing none the less. "And your family? They won't freak and assume that you're dating a girl who doesn't go to balls and afternoon tea every day?"
"My Father would flip out, hence why I'm not allowing you to meet him. My Mother would think you were a toy. And my sister would pity you and ask me when I'd grow up or if I was serious about you," he answered calmly.
Marui couldn't help but wince...maybe Europe wouldn't be worth it after all. Rich people were weird and freaky. It explained why Oshitari was the way he was though.
"There would be a lot in it for you though, you'd come home with tons of outfits, and eat delicious meals, and do pretty much whatever you wanted," Oshitari sighed, "but, I wonder if at the end of it all, you'd think this lifestyle was worth it."
"Considering I don't put up with a lot of bull shit, probably not." She teased. It was kind of sad that Oshitari didn't have what she had, but eh what could you do? "Still a pretty tempting offer though. Just make sure you save my ass if I fuck up. Not that I will, but you know...just in case."
"Naturally, I'd never let my mother hurt what I want to tap," he replied jokingly, "You'd be just as amused to see me in your parents house I'm sure."
"Oh, what a pair we make." The redhead stuck her chin in her hands and shot an amused look at Oshitari from across the table. "Mind games and loving to watch each other squirm."
"Are you implying you'd like to date me?" Oshitari offered shooting back a look of his own, "We do seem to enjoy pissing each other off."
"Naahhhhhhh." She pulled a face at him, giggling slightly at the fact that she was rejecting him...yet again. "Just remind me of a friend back home that's all. Only you come with private jets and trips to amazing chocolate."
He smiled, "I guess I have my benefits."
Marui didn't bother to resist the urge to reach over and pluck the glasses off of Oshitari's face, putting them on her own. "I'm not that shallow you know. Just like to tease you."
He smiled and decided to test the genius, "Are they helping your vision?"
Marui let them slide to the edge of her nose, looking at the teen across from her with through them and without them. No change; well that was interesting. "They're fake. You liar."
He took them back, "People say I look even better without them, but I like them quite a bit. There's something endearing about them I think." And he put them on himself.
No, you are not still attracted to him, Marui thought to herself as his fingers brushed her cheeks as he removed the glasses. No way in hell was she falling for his nice guy act...just yet. "You so would wear fake glasses, wouldn't you?"
"I already told you, I'm used to playing in a masquerade. What's so bad, about throwing on a mask? Besides, I really do like them. People have often suggested to me that I wear contacts instead, frankly though, I like myself better with them on. I get a little too serious when I take them off," he tried to explain and then removed them and glared, "See, much more frightening."
Geez, defensive much? Note to self: Don't insult the glasses anymore before getting tons of free food, Marui thought as she reached over to push bangs out of Oshitari's face and studied it. "Eh, don't look as smart without them on. Just more like a rich, pretty boy."
He put them back on, "Ahaha. So, with them on I look the part of a genius? That's almost enough reason to keep wearing them."
"Uh yeah," Marui agreed, looking around the ice cream parlor. It was basically empty, how long had they been talking anyways? "Think we should head back?"
"If you want - is there anything else you'd like to do?" Oshitari asked, "If not I'll call a car."
Marui beamed triumphantly. "Awwwwwww, you still want to spend time with me. See, I'm growing on you. That's so cute Oshitari." She was laying it on thick, but it was too good not to pass up.
Oshitari rolled his eyes. That was just about the last time he was polite to this one, but decided to play it a little more, "Well?"
Marui giggled at Oshitari's reaction. Winning was so damn awesome. "Dunno," the redhead murmured, looking straight at the guy across from her. "Anything you want to do is fine."
"I'd like to go home," he replied taking his turn to be cruel, "Shall I call a car or would you prefer to walk?”
"Should have seen that coming." Marui replied, shaking her head slightly as she got up from the table. "And we both have two legs. We can walk, I promise."
He smiled, "Fine by me," and offered her his hand standing up as he stood up and walked away from the table.
Marui took his hand yet again, not really knowing why she always did when the guy was such a jerk, but doing it anyways. "Thanks I guess." She muttered as they left the ice cream parlor. "For the ice cream and everything."
"It was nothing," Oshitari replied, and began the track back to the dorms hand-in-hand.
"Since it was nothing..." She grinned as an idea formed in her mind. "I'm sure you won't mind taking me for ice cream again. I love ice cream, but free ice cream is even more amazing."
"Next time you're paying and I get at least 6 scoops," He joked squeezing her hand lightly, "I'd be happy to take you again."
Marui smacked him lightly on the arm at the joke, but laughing anyways. "Happy to be in my company or happy to piss me off or both? I don't really care, just curious."
"Before I answer - how will my answer be used against me?" He replied casually knowing he needed to keep up with the pace of the girl next to him.
Marui glanced at Oshitari before shrugging slightly. "Won't be, like I said before: not always a bitch."
"Probably both. I find you amusing and sometimes it's what I say, and sometimes it's pissing you off. You're also pretty to look at," Oshitari smirked.
"Tell me something I don't know." Marui shot back confidently, squeezing his hand and swinging it back and forth as they walked. "Would you even bother talking to an ugly girl?"
"Depends how much money she had," Oshitari answered, "and why is it that you put up with me? Ice cream?”
"Superficial asshole," Marui couldn't help but tease before answering his question, "You keep me on my toes. Not many people can do that here."
He smiled to her retort, "Not quite the answer I was looking for, but better than ice cream," he replied.
"Oh I'm sorry, let me correct myself." A giggle escaped as they continued to stroll lazily down the street. "I put up with you for your amazing body and looks. Because your personality is just so amazing and wonderful, I never want to talk to anyone else ever again. Oh, and because you're flying me to Europe. My hero." She was tempted to fling herself onto him, but thought that might be too much.
"Much better," He replied sarcastically and then smiled, "That's probably also something I like about you. You're honest and not full of bull."
"Oh Oshitari-sama, you're far too kind." She replied in her best impression of a prissy, fake girly girl. "Seriously though," Marui said in her regular voice, pushing her bangs out of her face with her other hand. "You're not so bad yourself."
"Thanks," he answered, "We're pretty much back. Would you like me to escort you to your room like a proper gentleman?"
Marui bite back a comment about him not being able to bear burden of letting her go just yet, but thought better of it. Instead she decided to let Oshitari leave while they were still on a good note. "Nah, I can take care of myself. I guess I'll see you around?"
He nodded, "Anytime you want some ice cream I'm sure I'll hear a certain banging knock," he joked and headed for the boy's dorms.
Marui smiled slightly as she watched Oshitari leave before heading to her own dorm. Funny how she'd gone to kick his ass, and ended up spending half the night talking to him. Whatever, it wasn't that big of a deal after all.
