Who: Mizuki Hajime and Fuji Syuusuke
Where: School Grounds
When: Backdated to August 11th
What: Of secrets and data, and sneaky Fujiness
Warning: F for Fuji and N for ~Nfu~ (G, really.)
Taking photographs in his free time was one of Fuji's greatest hobbies, especially when the photos were taken of unsuspecting victims, such as the boy he spotted down by the lake in front of the school. It wasn't someone he had seen before, so he figured it was someone who had just recently arrived, and the boy had a rather interesting face; thus he was an object as good as any to be subjected to Fuji's camera lens.
Still, it would be rude to just take a photo and then walk away, so Fuji decided that he ought at least say hi to the other boy, and he tucked his camera away, walking up to the stranger.
"Hello there~"
A new school meant new people and to Mizuki, new people were just begging to be analyzed. It bothered him to not have data on anyone here, to not be able to predict someone's actions. So of course, as soon as he'd unpacked, he began his 'data collection' (which was more or less being nosy in the most inconspicuous ways possible). His eyes scanned the area, making mental notes of landmarks and the few students milling about. Unfortunately for him, he hadn't taking notice of the brunette until he spoke. Mizuki jumped slightly in surprise but quickly passed it off with a cough, turning to face the newcomer. "Hello," he smiled, cradling his chin with his hand, "And you would be~?"
"Fuji Syuusuke." The brunette smiled at the curly haired boy, mimicking his movements. He tapped his finger gently against his cheek as he asked:
"And you?"
"Mizuki Hajime." His eyes narrowed a bit, trying to determine whether the other was mocking him or just had similar habits. "...Pleased to meet you." He lowered his hand from his chin and folded his arms instead, nodding toward the camera the boy was holding. "What's that for?" He asked casually, despite the way his mind was running. Each reaction was new data, being perfectly filed under 'Fuji Syuusuke'.
Fuji merely smiled, turning the power on on his camera and slowly clicked a few buttons, zipping through the photos saved until he came to the most recent ones, the ones of this Mizuki-kun. He handed the camera over to the other boy and eyed him carefully. "This."
Mizuki stared at the small screen in front of him, browsing slowly through the last few photos. Photos of himself. While he was able to keep perfectly composed, his mind scrambled to analyze this unexpected variable. What was the reason for this? Had there even been one? "Nfu..." he smiled softly, though his eyes didn't quite match, "You enjoy taking photos of anyone? Even if you don't know them?"
Fuji nodded, taking his camera back and shutting it off. He put it into its small pouch and tucked it away in his backpack before turning his attention back to Mizuki. "I don't like forced photographs. Let's say I enjoy catching the moment?"
Mizuki stared for a moment before deciding to write it off for now. Perhaps the boy was just spontaneous. "Well, either way they're nice photographs..." His eyes wandered to the side, looking over the campus in apparent boredom. He wanted to find out more about this 'Fuji Syuusuke' but he wasn't the type to do things the easy way and just ask. It was so much more fun to find out through others, and often times he found more interesting things that way. However, he couldn't just leave now--that would be rude, and manners were something expected of 'elite' people. "So, photography is a hobby of yours? Is there a club for that sort of thing here yet?"
"It is." Fuji smiled cheerfully, taking a small note on this Mizuki's behavior. Tried to act casual or indifferent, did he? Or maybe he even was indifferent. His body language said that he was probably quite haughty at times, but then again, Fuji could just as easily be seeing things. I guess I'll find out in due time. I'm not going to judge him right of the bat...
"Yes, I think there are. And..." He thought for a moment, then flashed the other boy a radiant smile. "And I'm going to sign up for the school news paper~ I've already gotten the application form."
"Oh?" He asked though not as interested as he could have pretended to be. "Is there a reason why you enjoy it so much, or did you just decide to take photos one day?" As far as Mizuki knew, there was a reason for everything, no matter how trivial.
"Maybe..." Fuji smiled sweetly. "But no... There was a reason."
Mizuki paused as if waiting for the other boy to elaborate. Of course, he didn't. This was only mildly irritating though, Mizuki was used to having to pry things from people. "What was it?" He smiled, trying to be more friendly to get the data he wanted.
Instead of answering right away, Fuji thought for a moment, then said:
"Well... A lot of small things really. Family albums, a teacher that praised me, you know... Small things."
It made sense, even though it was boring. Normal. Huh...He'd somehow expected this one to be a little stranger than he was. Mizuki knew better though and never made final judgments so quickly. "You take a lot of pictures of people." Fact. "Aren't they interesting~?" He sure thought so.
“People? Yes, they are." Fuji smiled mildly. "Don't you think so?"
"Of course." Mizuki returned the smile, though he was disappointed at how cleverly guarded this kid was. "I love people."
"Not many people can say that nowadays," Fuji mused. "How come you can?"
He almost fell for it, but caught himself quickly with a smile instead of a straight answer. "Saa... Differences are interesting, aren't they?" No one got real data out of him, if he could help it.
Sneaky. But they were playing a game now, and Fuji loved games. Well, how to approach this from a good angle... "I'm not sure. Too much different can be a bad thing. Or a good thing, depending, I suppose."
"Oh?" Mizuki gave him a look that asked for clarification. "How so?"
“I'm not sure if it's the different one's fault, or the 'normal' ones, but... You see it all the time with animals, right? The odd one out gets shunned, often driven away. But then again, difference gives change and dynamics and therefore it can be a good thing. What do you think?"
Crap. This boy was both smarter and craftier than he'd originally assumed. Perhaps this would be fun after all. Mizuki pulled a thoughtful look, his hand touching his chin. "I'm pretty sure neither of them are at fault. In fact, since everyone is different--even those within 'the norm'-- you really can't call it a 'fault' at all, can you?" He smiled slyly, "However, you and I are definitely considered different."
"That's interesting. Why would you think that?" Fuji blinked owlishly towards Mizuki. "I think we might be a bit alike actually."
Mizuki couldn't help but smile, though he raised a brow in a questioning manner. "Nfu~ Really? What makes you say that?"
“I think we both like to have the upper hand in a conversation, don't you?" Smile.
Ah, so he'd figured it out. Good for him. Too bad that wasn't enough to keep Mizuki from wanting to win... Though what exactly he was trying to win didn't matter. He returned the smile, "Perhaps. Why, are you afraid of being pulled along?"
"Oh, I don't mind being pulled along," Fuji assured him, still smiling, as he watched Mizuki underneath half closed lids. "It beats the stress of being the one pulling, I'm sure. Too much work~"
Mizuki almost wanted to blurt 'Hardly!' but restrained and gave a soft chuckle instead. "Nfufufu~ Fuji-kun...Are you someone who likes secrets?"
“I don't know," Fuji smiled back, stretching lazily. "Depends on the one keeping secrets, I think. And you?"
Clever answer, but it would've been boring any other way. Mizuki seemed to be matching the other's casual mood with little effort. "Hm... Secrets are beautiful things."
"Because you don't know them, or because you get to know them," Fuji asked, a rather dry smile curling his lips.
The darker haired boy once again returned the smile, though his was a bit different. Something in his eyes made it seem cruel. "Nfu~ Because I find it fascinating for someone to have something that they want to hide. And even more so when they decide to trust another person with it." His smile became a little softer, though whether it was an act or not was unreadable. "Of course, finding out what people are hiding is fun too." It was said casually, as if he was talking about a hobby or the like.
Fuji was getting the small idea that he might not like everything about this Mizuki person. Shady ethics weren't something he agreed on, and by that comment, the other boy more or less proved that he had at least some of them. His face remained an unreadable mask however, as he replied:
"But what if you're the one keeping the secrets, Mizuki-kun?"
Mizuki only smiled, twisting a lock of hair between thumb and forefinger. "Nfu...Well, now that would be interesting, wouldn't it?" His blue eyes looked over the other face, unable to find a hint as to what he was thinking. "People only have secrets if they're so ashamed that they have to hide behind them. That's kind of weak, don't you think? I don't know how to keep a secret."
"I don't think I quite agree with you," Fuji pointed out mildly. "There are secrets, and there are secrets. Some secrets hold no shame to them what so ever. Say that you're planning a surprise party for someone, for example. There's no shame in that, nee? And people have secrets like that."
“Nfu, that's not a secret, Fuji-kun." His finger lazily toyed with the strand and he suddenly looked bored. "Your definition of a secret is dull."
"Maybe," the honey haired boy replied with a rather smug smile. "Maybe that's what does make us different, nee?"
He shot the boy a sideways glance, eyes half-lidded with disinterest. "Hmm? Oh, I'd say there's a lot more differences between us." He returned his gaze to the campus and added, almost as if talking to himself, "Perhaps you just have too many secrets."
"Might be the case... Either that, or I have none at all." Fuji shrugged, then nodded at the dormitory. "Anyway, I'm getting cold... I suppose I'll be seeing you around, nee?"
Mizuki didn't believed it for a second. The boy had secrets. There wasn't a human being alive without them. And where Mizuki knew there were things being hidden, he always felt the almost uncontrollable urge to dig them up and make them known. However, he just politely nodded and kept his plans to himself. "Take care~" Though it was hardly heartfelt.
