Who: Fuji Syuusuke/Kikumaru Eiji (will I ever log with anyone else?!?!)
What: Fuji arrives back from his unpleasent weekend to get questioned by Eiji.
Where: Their dorm room
When: Sunday evening
Rating: PG
Eiji was bored. There really was nothing else for it. He had searched high and low all weekend for some stray animal that he could shower his affections upon, but with no luck. It seemed that the staff at Evergreen took a lot of care in keeping strays off of their property...much to Eiji's chagrin.
So, long story short he had stayed up Friday and Saturday night playing Rock Band and DDR...and it only took Friday night to realize that he was completely burnt out on both. Sunday was used for sleeping, and that was exactly how Fuji found him when he arrived back at the dorms Sunday evening.
I can do this, I can do this, I can do this... Fuji paused outside the door that led to his and Eiji's room, his face pale and his hands shaking. His stomach hurt, the fresh bruises there being more black than blue, and his back and legs hurt from the injuries inflicted by his father's belt and belt buckle, and every move he made made his behind burn like the Hell fires themselves. No, he was not feeling very good at all, and most of all he would have wanted to curl up somewhere and enjoy some good quality time with a truck load of painkillers. But he couldn't. He had school and his dad had said that 'if you want to go back to that damn school so much, then you better go and keep the fuck from missing a single class'. Which meant no visit to the infirmary, which meant no painkillers, other than the ones he carried in his bag.
Maybe Eiji wouldn't be in, so maybe he could slink of to sleep and rest up without any questions attacking him.
Well, Eiji was in, he noticed, and he noticed also that the room didn't look too bad, which meant that the other boy hadn't really made a complete mess of everything as he had promised he would. That thought made Fuji smile, and he silently sat his backpack down, escaping into the bathroom to change into his pajama. Once finished, and after brushing his teeth twice, Fuji stepped out, wondering if maybe his messing around in the bathroom had woken the other boy up.
The click of the bathroom door had awoken the red headed boy from his slumber, shattering his dreams of chocolate sundaes and banana splits. Blinking his eyes sleepily he looked first to Fuji's bag on the floor, than to the closed bathroom door and smirked. Roommate was back safe and sound...which meant a slight lapse in boredom. Still he lay in his bed, waiting for the door to open so he could surprise-tackle Fuji.
It did, and no sooner had the door swung open than Eiji had thrown back the covers, flown over the side of the bed and pounced his friend. "Okaeri~ miss me?"
Having the air knocked out of him, along with pain exploding in every sore place of his body, it took Fuji a couple of seconds before he could steady himself enough to realize that Eiji was indeed awake. Had he made any pained sound at the collision? He couldn't remember. Maybe he had, it seemed logical anyway, didn't it? It dawned on him that the redhead had asked him something, and he managed to make a smile come to his lips as he replied:
"O.. Of course, Eiji. Were you bored?"
Eiji's eyes narrowed. Had he rammed into Fuji enough to hurt him? That sound....it did sound like a yelp. And not one of surprise. "Yeah...yeah I was-nyo. You okay?" he asked, grabbing the others shoulders to steady him.
"I'm a bit tired," the golden hair boy admitted, realizing there was no way he could hide the fact that his face was deathly pale - he had seen that himself in the bathroom mirror. "And you?"
"I'm better now that you're here..." he said, releasing the other a bit worriedly. Fuji didn't look good...and admitting that was an understatement. In truth, Fuji looked like hell. "Long trip...?" he asked, giving Syuusuke a once over.
Released, Fuji smiled faintly at the other boy and moved over to his bed, curling up underneath the covers. "Yeah," he replied after a moment of silence. "Really long."
That didn't sound good. Turning around blue eyes followed Fuji, only releasing their gaze when the boy was safe in bed. "Why'd they want you to go home so suddenly anyway-nyo?" he asked, crossing to his computer chair and sitting in it.
"Mom said she missed me," Fuji replied, enjoying the cool of the pillow against his burning cheeks. Maybe he was running a fever, that wouldn't surprise him in the least. "She even made my favorite food... It was good."
Eiji nodded, understanding for the most part. He knew his mom didn't particularly miss him, but was sure that other families didn't have the same problem as he did. "And your tou-san? Nee-san?" he asked, trying to coax out whatever was on Fuji's mind. He knew something had to have happened with his family...and if not with his family than somewhere in between.
It took Fuji a moment before he could drag himself up from the comfortableness of the pillow to actually answer that. "Hm? Oh, yeah dad was happy to see me too. Yumiko-nee wasn't home, or, you know... She was at her home. I didn't see her."
Maybe Fuji was upset because he came all the way home and his sister didn't bother to come and see him? Maybe...but Eiji doubted it. "Mou, that sucks. But at least it was nice to see your kaa-san and tou-san-nyo," he paused, trying to find the next best approach. "So...what did you do over the weekend?"
He was half the mind to just tell Eiji to be quiet and let him sleep, as he needed the strength for the following school day, but friendliness won over reason and he shrugged lightly, replying:
"Not all that much... Spent some quality family time, watched TV, caught up on some soaps I've asked mom to tape for me..."
Eiji tilted his head to the side. "....couldn't you have just done that here-nyo?" he asked, not fully understanding why Fuji's family had dragged their son away from school for TV and soups.
"I suppose... But I missed my cacti at home as well," Fuji said, smiling sheepishly.
The red head perked up at that. "Oh yeah, you did remember to take pictures of them, right?" he smirked, shaking his finger at Fuji. "I'll be mad if I can't get the chance to meet the rest of the Fuji household-nyo..."
Eiji still couldn't take his eyes off of Fuji. Something wasn't settling with him right. "Fujiko....are you...sure you're okay?"
"I have pictures," the other boy nodded, leaning back against the pillows. "I'll show you tomorrow. And yeah... I'm just... Just tired, okay?"
A frown began to tug at Eiji's lips, and he did nothing to hold it back. "No...no...you're not-nyo. Something's wrong. Are you mad at me? I'm sorry for whatever I did, honest..."
"Heh." Fuji gave a short, wry smile, devoid of humor, before he flopped over onto his back, closing his eyes. "How could I be mad at you, Eiji? I kept thinking about you during the entire weekend. You made me want to come back... I missed you."
Blink. What was that? Rewind...had Fuji just said that? "You...wha...okay." He cleared his throat. "I missed you too. But, considering that you were wanting to get back to me so much and now you can't even tell me what's bothering you....and if it's not me, maybe I can help you-nyo...maybe...I just hate seeing you like this." He was being honest. He hadn't known Fuji for very long, but already it pained him whenever the other boy was upset.
He couldn't tell. If he told more than he already had, his father would probably kill either him or the person he told and he didn't want any hurt to come to Eiji, or Oshitari, or anyone. Not ever. Still, he knew he was being rather unreasonable, and that the correct thing to do was to tell someone, but knowing something and being able to bring oneself to do it were two different things all together. "Thanks for the offer." He opened his eyes, turning his head towards Eiji. "But really... I just want to sleep." All right, that much he could say. Hopefully. "I... think I have a fever, actually."
It took only a moment for Eiji to spring into action, jumping off the chair and dashing to Fuji's side, hand sliding to his forehead. "Aah! You're burning up-nyo! Cold compress, cold compress~" he mumbled to himself, leaving Fuji to go wet a wash cloth in the bathroom. "You should have told me sooner~"
"I... really thought I'd just sleep it off," Fuji replied faintly. "But it's getting to me, I think."
Eiji tisked from the bathroom, cold water rushing over his hands. He turned it off, squeezing the majority of the water out of the cloth. Turning on a dime he headed back to the room. "You should have just said something-nyo. I don't want you to get sick..."
"I already am, aren't I," Fuji pointed out, opening an eye to peek at Eiji.
He rolled his eyes, smoothing the bandage that still adorned his cheek as he went. "Beside the point, beside the point-nyo. Now hold still." That being said he gently laid the cold compress on Fuji's forehead, pushing the fringe of golden hair out of the way. "You need to take better care of yourself-nyo, or I'll be worried."
"Why should I take care of myself when you're doing such a good job at it?" The cloth felt absolutely wonderful against his burning skin, and the golden haired boy let out a small sigh of relief.
That's an easy question to answer - because I can't always be there with you every second of every day-nyo," he sighed, pressing the wash cloth closer to the skin. He was no doctor, but he knew some things when it came to basic care. And fevers could be dangerous. "But don't worry, I'll take care of you for now...until you're up to the task of doing it for yourself."
"Thank you, Eiji." He managed to smile at the other boy. "Will you sing me to sleep?"
Eiji could've laughed at that request, but he caught himself. It almost seemed that Fuji was a bit serious. His weekend must have been pretty bad. "Sure...but I'm warning you I've been told the sound of my voice sounds like a cat giving birth to a flaming refrigerator..."
He just had to laugh at that, a laugh that quickly morphed into gasping coughs as his insides told him that this wasn't a very good idea. "I... All the more reason for you to do it, Eiji~"
Frown increasing Eiji looked down at his friend, worry etched on every inch of his face. Something was wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
And then Fuji moved his head slightly, revealing a small patch of dark on his pale skin. "W-wha....Fujiko...." he gaped brushing the strands of golden hair aside to reveal a fresh bruise on Fuji's face. "WHAT THE HELL?! WHO HIT YOU?! I'LL KILL THEM-NYO!"
Raised voice. Raised voice meant anger meant he had done something wrong meant he was a bad boy and meant frightening and... Fuji couldn't help but recoil from Eiji's touch, disoriented eyes, darting back and forth and everywhere except on Eiji's face until he managed to calm himself down enough to actually realize that it was Eiji in front of him and that Eiji was asking him something, even if he was shouting. "Eiji, please, keep your voice down..."
Well damn, that had only made things worse. Eiji wasn't sure what to do, back off completely or reach out and touch Fuji. So he stayed where he was, trying to figure out his next move, his eyes never leaving Fuji's face...or rather the bruise there upon. Leveling his voice he asked again, "Who hit you-nyo...seriously...I'll kill them..."
Trying to think up an excuse when the head was muffled by fever wasn't the easiest thing ever, but he managed to grab onto something that might work as a plausible cover up. "They didn't mean to." Smile. Smiles always worked, right? "It was at the subway. Someone pulled the emergency breaks and a man happened to slap me when he wanted to grab onto the pole behind me."
He couldn't help but sigh in relief. If the person had actually meant to hit Fuji...well, certain measures would've had to be taken. Like kicking said persons ass. But, an honest mistake...that could be dealt with. "Did you go and see someone about it? It looks painful," he said, reaching out to put a hesitant finger to the skin near the bruise. "Lets see-nyo, what works well on bruises.....?"
He actually bought it? Fuji tried his best to keep his relief from showing on his face and then he smiled, making himself comfortable once again against the pillows. "It hurts a bit, yeah... But what works well... I've heard that a slab of raw meat, or ice works pretty well. I'd rather skip the meat though~"
Eiji nodded his agreement. Raw meat and skin shouldn't mix, at least not in his opinion. But ice he could manage. "Okay, you want me to go get you an ice pack?" he asked, pulling the covers up to tuck under Syuusuke's chin. It was weird, seeing Fuji so fragile. Normally it seemed that the boy could deal with anything, rain or shine (at least in Eiji's eyes), but today he seemed diminished. The bruise might have been explained away...but that wasn't the only thing bothering him, and Eiji knew it.
"Sounds like an idea," Fuji agreed, then added slowly:
"All thought I can't promise I'll be awake when you get back. Just... Don't feel afraid to wake me up, eh?"
Eiji nodded and crawled off of Syuusuke's bed, heading for the door. But when he reached out his hand for the handle he turned back. "Fujiko-nyo.....no matter what happened....at home, or where-ever....I'm glad you're back."
"I'm glad to be back too," Fuji smiled, eyes sliding shut. "Really glad. Eiji... Thank you."
Eiji's eyes slid closed as well, searching for the words that eluded him. What he really wanted to say was that he would be there no matter what...that it was okay...but somehow the words died before they reached his lips and sighing he nodded to himself, gently easing the door open and slipping out into the darkened hallway in search of ice.
