Date: During the infamous Agency party. Can't get more backdated than that, heh? ;3
Rating: PG
Summary: Thanks to An, Sakuno has become Fuji's date for the Agency anniversary party. They dance and sort-of flirt. Brought your toothpaste and toothbrush? ;D
It was a surprise, a pleasant one though, unlike someone else's surprise. Fuji smiled pleasantly at his date. The young woman looked wonderful tonight, and he made no attempt to hide the fact from her. Still, out of everyone in the agency, what were the chances that Sakuno would wind up to be his date?
"Can I get you a drink?" The spy offered her as he emptied another glass, smiling politely.
Eh? She was a little distracted at the moment; Hoshina had asked her and the other secretaries to be semi on-call in case something happened (chances were small, but you couldn't know...), and she was also waiting for the famous video that some of the techs had been working in for weeks...
So, when she heard the voice coming from not too far, Sakuno blinked a little before turning and seeing Fuji, the man who helped her in Shibuya and now was her date for the night thanks to An Tachibana, standing very close to her.
"Fuji-san...," she said, before replying to his question. "Uhm, no, thanks. Telling truths, I don't exactly like to drink, but thank you a lot anyway..."
"Not even juice or water?" The spy continued to smile. "Don't be so nervous, Ryuuzaki, this is a party, relax a little."
Duh! He had a point in that; besides, Sakuno didn't want to be rude to Fuji. "Some juice would be fine, then," she replied, nodding a little to re-assure herself. Don't be jumpy, Sakuno... If he tried to do something, it wouldn't exactly be here, anyway...
"Orange then? Good for the body." The man chuckled lightly as he turned and walked away.
Ryuuzaki was undeniably nervous, at him most likely; they don't know each other that well after all. So small talk would most likely be in order for her to warm up if not at the very least settle down. The woman also didn't seem to be too comfortable in a large social gathering like this, maybe that was causing some form of anxiety. Fuji contemplated as he waited at the bar for his order to be filled.
"Here you go." The spy offered the drink politely when he got back, his hand holding the bottom of the glass in case Sakuno felt uncomfortable about touching him. "How are you enjoying your night so far?"
Her nervousness wasn't serious enough to make Sakuno lose control to the point of dropping things in public, so her grip on the glass was relatively firm. There as no need for her newfound companion to think she was shy to such a point; thought she'd always be quiet, she had come a long way from her childhood years...
"Thank you," she said, smiling as brightly as she could. "I've been enjoying myself, if you wonder; it's just that the environment isn't what I'm exactly used to."
"I see." The man nodded, smiling reassuringly at her. "I suppose I can see why, and you probably don't go out a lot other than errands?"
"Not without my friends from highschool or people that I already know." She fidgeted a little; the high heel shoes were new as well as very tight. Still, she spared another smile to Fuji, not wanting to bring him down. "And you see, *everyone* is here, from the Director to the agents in training... t's not something you see usually."
"Is that so?" The man smiled back and put his glass down on a nearby table as another new song started. "If you don't do this often then you should try to have as much fun as possible when you can then."
The spy extended his hand and bowed. "May I have this dance?"
Sure... why not? Tomoka and her other friends had given her a sort-of crash course on ballroom dancing last week, so Sakuno decided to accept the offer and, after a millisecond of hesitation, she took Fuji's hand gently and made a small curtsy.
"Gladly, Fuji-san".
At the affirmative, Fuji gave Sakuno a radiant smile and gently lead her out to the floor. "Don't be nervous." The man whispered as he placed his other hand on the secretary's waist. "Just follow my lead, it will be fun."
"I certainly hope so, Fuji-san."
Smiling as well, Sakuno decided to follow his lead as much as she could. And soon, she saw that it was working. While obviously not a star dancer, the young secretary could hold her own on the dance floor; also, Fuji was guiding her dance steps more than well, giving her a boost in her confidence...
"You are doing great." The spy reassured and encouraged her, glad to see the woman was starting to be a little less anxious.
The gentle words were what the secretary needed to relax further and let the music and rhythm just... wash over. The song was also rather slow, which reduced the risk of bumping into other couples if a step went wrong, and Fuji hadn't tried anything that would make her feel bad, so Sakuno's movements were soon more self-assured and she let her partner guide her on the dance floor, her eyes bright and her smile open and sincere.
Fuji answered her smile and more, emanation a friendly and confident aura to help the young woman relax. He was no Rudolf Nureyev, but the spy was trained in skills that he would need in social gatherings, which comically included ways to increase one's alcohol tolerance. Go figure.
She followed the rhythm as much as she could, mentally thanking her friends for their impromptu lessons - who'd say that they would come *so* handy? Specially for someone who used to frequently trip or fall on her face during PE classes at school.
Few minutes later, though, the song was over. They slowly stopped dancing and Sakuno stared at Fuji, wondering if they would step out of the dance floor or not...
"You tired?" The spy asked her politely, mostly out of curtsey. He was quite sure a dance that slow would not tire anyone out. Fuji studied her gently for the faintest sign that would tell him what the woman would like. She was his date for the night, and therefore his responsibility. Even if his night was looking to be a trip straight to hell, he was going to make sure at least Sakuno enjoyed her night.
"No exactly, Fuji-san..." She moved her foot a little, wordlessly letting him know that the problem were the shoes more than anything else. The high heels were killing her.
Still, Sakuno continued smiling. She was having a good time and wouldn't let this problem get in the way... she would just, if it was really needed, slow down a little to recharge energies and not worry Fuji again.
"Ahh." The man immediately caught on, decide that maybe he can risk a little playfulness since the woman seemed to be much more relaxed than before. "Should I carry you then?" He winked, although he was also serious about the offer.
Sakuno nodded, smiling as always. Taking the first stop now sounded fine, so it'd allow her to continue later. Both to be a good companion to Fuji and be ready for anything that Hoshina and the other admins needed. She hadn't forgotten the senior secretary's request and that the party wasn't reduced to only dancing...
"I'd thank you a lot if you could..."
The man was by no means the strongest person alive, or even above average in turns of pure strength. But he was not as frail as his sometimes-willowy appearance might suggest. Waiting a few moments to give the young woman time to change her mind or get ready before Fuji kneeled lightly next to her.
"Put your arms around my neck." He instructed gently as he prepares to pick her up, princess style.
If something could equal the red in Sakuno's cheeks as she did what Fuji told her and he lifted her in his arms - well, not even the bright red silk dress worn by a young woman standing not too far from them could compare.
Yes, she was *that* surprised and embarrassed to be in his arms where everyone could see her... yet, it was also pleasant. Her heart was beating as fast as it hadn't in years... and she knew it wasn't only because Fuji was carrying her.
Again, he was helping her out, and the debt she still felt that she had with him was even bigger.
If Fuji noticed anything, he didn't point it out. The man adjust Sakuno into a slightly more comfortable position before he started to walk off the dance floor, his hands were politely but firmly positioned under her knees and back.
"Anywhere in particular you would like to go?" He asked her softly with a gentle smile.
"... Outside, if it's possible," the secretary whispered, her eyes closed as she resisted the urge to bury her face in the crook of Fuji's neck. Way to go, Sakuno, don't make yourself look more vulnerable than you are already. Tomo-chan, Shizuka-san, Mother and Grandmother would get pissed off at you for placig yourself at such a position... "We're not too far from one of the exit doors..."
"Hai." Fuji nodded as he turned and headed in the direction that she indicated. Walking slowly to prevent the ride from becoming too bumpy to Sakuno. "You smell nice." The man added as a after thought as he continued making his way to their destination.
"Thanks," she murmured, now opening her eyes to see what surrounded them, but kinda avoiding to look at him in the eye. To shield herself from some more embarrassment, to survey their surroundings better since Fuji's priority was more to carry her around than anything else, she couldn't exactly say what was the full and real reason...
Looking around as he got to the exit, Fuji spotted an empty chair by the wall. Walking over, "Hope you enjoyed your ride." Fuji joked again as he sat Sakuno gently down on the furniture.
There was a second empty chair not too far, so Sakuno just leaned a little closer to it to bring it next to hers and give Fuji the chance to sit as well. She wasn't exactly light, so she was sure he was a little tired...
She looked up at him and noticed something else. "Your tie is half-undone..." She lifted her hands a little. "Let me fix it, Fuji-san..."
The man gratefully took a seat, smiling gently as he murmured a word of gratitude. Blinking in surprise at her words, the spy finally noticed his less than perfect condition.
Chuckling lightly, he leaned forward so Sakuno would have an easier time. "Thank you very much, Ryuuzaki." He said softly.
"It's the least I can do..." She was done in less than three minutes, her small fingers tracing Fuji's face a little as she was done with the tie. "Somehow, Fuji-san, you've been there for me more than once... I can't do less than taking care of you a little, just like I do with my workmates, relatives and friends."
And somehow, I feel I'm more in debt with you, than you may ever know..., she mentally added, brown eyes fixed on the man's blue own.
"Who wouldn't want to be here for a pretty lady like you?" Fuji gave her a sincere smile. The woman's fingers were soft against his face, and he smiled encouraging at her. Letting his eyes close for as long as she lingered on his skin.
"Besides, if you work so hard to take care of others, someone have to take care of you." He opened his eyes and met her look, his gaze soft and gentle.
Sakuno smiled sweetly to her partner, but her eyes stared at him a bit harder. "I know. Despite being quiet, I'm very aware of my own worth. And... I can't expect everyone to take care of me, can I? I might be repeating myself, but it's true."
Despite her lightly harsh words, her fingers remained on Fuji's cheek for some seconds, before she sighed and pulled away.
"I'm glad." Fuji nodded in agreement. "Ryuuzaki just seemed so nice that I'm afraid people would take advantage of you." Perhaps by purpose, perhaps not, but as the woman's finger pulled away, Fuji turned his head in time to let his lips glide lightly against her hand.
"Seems the quiet ones, um, should never be underestimated...," she murmured, cinnamon brown eyes going wide as Fuji kissed her hand. Sort of. It was, and at the same time wasn't, like in either romance novels, shoujo manga and fairy tales; it *was* because they had people that in the surface were perfect incarnation of the Hero and Heroine, yet the Princess typed documents instead of embroidering and knitting, and the Prince was a complete mystery to her...
"Agreed." Fuji murmured against her hand before turning back to the woman as if nothing happened, the gentle smile unchanged on his face. Still leaning lightly over, he asked her softly. "Are your feet alright now or should I massage it a little?"
"My feet are fine, thanks. Resting is what I needed." And Sakuno managed to recover the hold on her emotions, sighing deeply and slowly retiring her (still slightly trembling) hand, thought she could still feel Fuji's unexpectedly soft lips against them.
What could've been a silence either magical or really uncomfortable was broken when a girl with wavy black hair who worked with the analysts came up to Sakuno and Fuji. "Erm, Ryuuzaki-san? Hoshina-san and Tsukuda-san say that we shall hae a small reunion in fifteen minutes..."
"How unfortunate." Fuji shook his head lightly as he turned to the girl. "Please inform them that Ryuuzaki would be there."
Standing up and turning back to the young secretary, the photographer gave her a friendly grin as he held out his hand to her. "Saa… looks like the Princess is being called upon. Should I carry you there or can you walk now?"
"Um, there's no need. There are things that only the Princess can do, and this is one of them. However..." She thought of it a little, then smiled. "Does the Prince have pen or paper? That way, the Princess can leave for him something that will alow him to call her and speak to her later."
Fuji's smile widened a little as he reached his pocket and took out a pen… and grabbed a nearby clean but abandoned napkin and handed to Sakuno.
She wrote her e-mail account and cellphone number with her clearest handwriting on the napkin. Less than that? It'd make him think that she didn't want him to fully contact her. More? Either he'd wonder if she was *that* desperae, or would raise eyebrows among her peers for being too abnormally open to someone she barely knew.
When done, Sakuno carefully folded the napkin and handed it back to Fuji along with the pen. "You should have no trouble contacting me now, Fuji-san."
The man took the napkin and pen with a smile and carefully tucked the folded paper in his left breast pocket. "Do expect to hear from me." He grinned at her and explained. "I maybe a bit busy after this but as soon as I'm free, I'll try to contact you. Maybe a while though"
Leaning forward, he took the hand that returned the items and lightly dip his head down to place an soft kiss on the back of the palm. "Till then, take care."
Sakuno closed her eyes and nodded, still blushing just a little as Fuji kissed her hand again before leaving. She sighed deeply (she had truly lost the count of how many times she had sighed tonight) as he was finally gone, and then the secretary of the analysts came back.
"Ah, Ryuuzaki-san! Sorry, I wasn't aware that you..."
"Don't be, Kouda-san," she replied calmly and gently as always. "It's nothing that could be helped; we admins knew about our job here, right?"
"Mmmm, if you say so, then be it." And Kouda smiled as well, taking Sakuno's hand to pull her up to her feet. "Come on, Ryuuzaki-san, Hoshina-san says she needs us..."
