a strange moment of mono no aware

Dec 30, 2010 15:12

I wrote this some weeks ago and made it a private post. Today I decided at random to make it public.

Reading _Hylozoic_ in a chain coffee joint downtown, I overheard some snippets of conversation and realized, again, that history is sooner or later going to come down like a tsunami and wash all these people and their cconvictions and cares away, leaving only a scum of unreadable digital memories and other inexplicable artifacts. For better and for worse. And let's not forget, it will conclusively wash me away too, and everyone I love, and everything I find comfortingly familiar. It will wash away this journal, most likely. My awareness of what is about to happen - or more accurately, my ideas of same - will probably avail me about as much as a fart in a windstorm.

That's the way it goes.

Addendum: Now my job is to get okay with that, and do what I can do, give what I can give, be what I can be regardless.
