1. So...I bought my plane ticket on Monday (for my flight on Wednesday). Since I was going to spend the night in the airport, I went to bed early Tuesday morning...woke up early afternoon...and found out that the site I had used wanted me to fax them a copy of my credit card statement by 15:00. I read this at 14:00. And I really was just not ( Read more... )

I've never flown Ryanair...:P But at least European airlines will even provide a little snack/breakfast for like one-hour flights. :33333 US airlines are so cheap ;_;

XDDDD Yeah, tvtropes notes that there seems to be quite a bit of misplaced patriotism in Hetalia fandom...Texas hates Thomas Jefferson what???? :OOOO I truthfully really want to read fic involving tenuous relationships, like fic about how Alfred interacts with Native-tans...:333333 Nations bear the weight of their histories, and so I often think about how characters are written/perceived differently when the people who write them don't know all of their history...I want to write FrUK fic, but the FrUK I see is likely quite different than the FrUK a French or a British person would see/understand. I have a good friend who is into Hetalia and is Romanian, and I really want to see her write fic about Romania-tan, because I know she would get it right (or at least better than anyone who isn't studying Romanian history/culture/etc.)....(omg I wrote so much orz)

XDDDD;;; Oh, nini...Though I'm kind of glad that someone agrees with me! XD

I shall definitely post moar, then! At some point!

Also, I don't think I will be able to get to your fic until the end of the month orz
I am so sorry D: I keep thinking about it but I keep just going everywhere and ;_;_;_;_;_;_;_;_; I do really look forward to reading it, though! ;o;

It's fine, seriously. Before the twentieth would be ideal, but it's fine if not. Honestly, I'm gobsmacked you're even doing this for me at all, so.

Texas is trying to erase Jefferson from the schoolbooks! Because he was a deist, and came up with separation of church and state. WHYYYY.

I'm glad I agree with you about China! It's kind of strange how hetalia!China differs from Chinese fandom China. I wonder if the Japanese see China as cute and innocent, what? I don't see him as precisely lovable- more awe-inspiring. Four thousand years old, wow.

And yes, I'm always worrying that I'm getting things wrong! It's terrifying, in this fandom, because it's not just being OOC, it's being culturally oblivious and aaah. Romania- I would love to see that, too. I've seen about one fic out there, where she's a very hot lady, and I kind of ship her with Hungary- but I have no idea if a Romanian would see it that way and I'd love to know.

Native-tans... personally I'd be too afraid to go there. But maybe somebody else could do it Right.

I come back from my trip to France on the 21st, so I can probably get it done around the 22nd or the 23rd. ;_; And dude, it's my pleasure! I'm always up for reading well-researched Hetalia fic! :D I'm just sorry you've been waiting forever D: Especially since I'm sure you want to post it and all...

And lol oh Texas, that sounds like something Texas would do XDDDDDDD

I think the China that's in recent memory...could be seen as 'cute'...since he's been kind of weak for about four hundred years now ;_; From what I understand, the Japanese find pre-Yuan China (and Ming China) to be pretty awe-inspiring, but afterward, yeah...And XDDDDD, we Chinese consider China to be five thousand years old...XD The Japanese take four thousand, while the West accepts three thousand+. It's interesting...XD

Yeah, my friend thinks Romania would be female as well! Do you have a link to that fic you read? XD And oooh, now I'm curious what my friend would think about Romania/Hungary! XD I will ask XDDDDD

I told my Native friend that I'd write fic in which nini meets the Native-tans and both commiserate about how they've been through hell in the last four hundred years. :333333 I feel a lot more confident about it since she'll be looking at it for me :33333 Otherwise I'd be kind of :33333333 as well...

I kind of see him as back though! I mean, he's a superpower again, and I imagine he must enjoy that very much, heh. I should write that fic one day. Or someone should. The one where he breaks up with Russia because of what he wants, what he wants that Russia's not offering. Or something like that. I still haven't gotten it entirely figured out, but I imagine that much of the latter part of the twentieth century is China saying "screw you" to the Western powers. Of course I'm treading in dangerous territory here, eh. Oh Hetalia.

How do you figure five thousand? Do you start counting before the Xia dynasty?

The fic that I read only has Romania briefly, it's mostly Hungary/Liechtenstein and it's part of a much larger alternate history project, but I bet you could read it on its own, and it's here- http://community.livejournal.com/all_he_ever/15120.html#cutid1
I really love that author, seriously. They also wrote a really excellent China-centric fic from the same continuity that's pretty much where I get a lot of my view of him from.

Yeah, it's great that your friend is doing that for you! That's pretty much why I want you to read my fic. (The 23rd is fine, btw.) So I make sure it's, you know, all right.

In my understanding of China, he understands that while his economy is growing, he hasn't been restored to the power he formerly was, and he can't be comfortable until he is because of the way the Western nations are intent to contain him (and he remembers all that's happened in the 19th and 20th centuries, so he's quite wary). I think your interpretation is valid (and one many people seem to have irl), but it's not one I agree with. :P Though I do see the 'screw you' XDDDDD

Most counting of the years starts with Huang Di, who is seen as more or less starting true Han culture. We aren't quite at five thousand yet, but we are getting there...and we are so close that we usually just say five thousand. :P It boggles my mind that people consider the Xia dynasty as the beginning of Chinese history! XD (Or even the Shang!) It always starts from the Three Sovereigns and Five Sages in my mind (and that was how it was taught in China afaik, though with the current historical revisionism, I can't say if it's that way still...)

Oooh, thanks for the link! Romania is quite cool in the fic. :D I do remember your talking about this author before...and I did actually read the China fic this time. I think she does write a very good China - certainly a better one than most portrayals I've read...though there are certain things I'd disagree with her about (but eh, that's the nature of history), and there are a few factual inaccuracies :3333 Although I think the inaccuracies I found are things that would require somewhat of a general knowledge of all of Chinese history + Chinese foreign relations, which is asking a lot of people who aren't natively Chinese or who are not scholars of China (and I'm pretty wary of foreign scholars of China generally, even those at the PhD level, because they definitely see China in a different way than I (and a number of other Chinese) do)

XDDDD Well, considering that my trip to France just isn't meant to be, I'll probably be able to get it to you earlier. :) Sorry for the long wait!

Oh dear. Now I am worried :(
Because I am definitely not what you would call knowledgeable about Chinese history D:
And my main source is Wikipedia -hangs head in shame-
