Here's a story I read this weekend.
A thirteen-year-old girl named Megan Meier, with a history of ADD, depression, and being overweight, broke off a friendship with another girl, Sarah Drew, down the street. That girl's mother, Lori Drew, pretended to be a cute boy on Myspace, Josh Evans, who was interested in Megan, got her into him, and then said the world would be better off without her.
Megan hung herself 20 minutes later in her closet. She died the next day in the hospital.
The Drew family never apologized. How sick is that? There's no precedent in criminal law, either, to charge Lori Drew with a crime.
Here's the story in the St. Charles Journal, which very nicely decided to not print the real names of the family responsible.
The Seattle Times, on the other hand, doesn't care so much.
Oh, and Sarah Drew? Created a blogspace called
Megan Had It Coming.
If you live in St. Louis,
here's a list of the businesses that work with the advertising business owned by the Drews. Oh, and the home address and phone numbers of the Drew family and of the temporary employee who helped with Josh Evans. Just in case anyone wants to join the internet vigilantism that's been occurring since this story went big.
