[Damian arrives at the same time he has every night since Steph's been on the job, and takes the same seat he always does. And starts immediately scanning the room for suspicious people. Like always. And planning escape routes and the easiest way to make the diner explode.

Like always.

He has to find some way to keep from recoiling at the sight of this place - or even worse, admit that he's starting to get used to it.]

[ Sometimes, it feels like she knows his habits better than he does. Damian is habit-driven, so he's always there at exactly the same time. She keeps track of the hour with frequent glances at her watch, just so she'll have his tea for him when he shows up. It's a small thing, but most gestures between them are. Damian takes black tea with two sugars and milk. Milk, not creamer, because apparently that's how they roll in England and his habits were instilled globally.

His tea is on his table before he gets there. ]

[He can't help but allow himself a little bit of a smile as he sips at the tea - at least he can help it as long as it takes to make sure she's not looking to notice the grin. The tea is better than adequate, which would have been the word he would have said if she asked him how it was.

It made him more comfortable, and a little less angry about having Stephanie doing all the work.]

[ she's shockingly okay with having to do all the work. She's always been an independent person, so spending the last year mooching off of Wayne money hasn't been good for her pride. She's spent too many years getting by on her own to feel 100% comfortable with getting everything handed to her for free. Feeling like an integral part of the team is...nice, if exhausting.

Steph has a few minutes for a break---and he knows that, which is why he showed up---so she slides into the booth with him. ]

And how has your day been?

Annoyingly uneventful, much like every day in this joke of a town. [His casual tone makes that sound far less angrier than it should. He takes another sip of the tea.] And yours? Have any exciting adventures in cleaning up trucker vomit today?

You'll either get used to the pace of the place, or you'll go crazy. Or both. Either way, I'm embracing the crap out of the culture. There's been a few chuckleheads who think that it's acceptable to hassle a cute little waitress who's been marked--- [ she gestures briefly with her right wrist. The circle bruise-tattoo is half visible under the band of her watch ] ---but you know how well I deal with people giving me lip.

Indeed I do. [Damian gives his patented smirk, the one indicating pride. Subtly different from all his other many varied smirks, enough that only Stephanie and maybe Dick would be able to pick it up.] And how exactly how badly did you hurt them?

[ she was ten pounds of sass in a five pound bag even before she started training with Damian, so after spending a year sparring with him she has gotten even punchier. She just smiles, though. ]

Hurt them? Oh, you wound me. I'd never hurt a big tough trucker. Clearly, I'm too frail a damsel for that kind of thing.

Excellent. [Reading between the lines was, Damian had to admit, fun. Perhaps that was the real reason anyone bothered with this secret identity nonsense.] Other than that, have you still convinced yourself that this job isn't an endless, tedious grind? [Another sip as he pauses for a response.]

All jobs are endless, tedious grinds. That's a fact of life.

[ she scrubs her fingers through her hair before pulling it back into a messy ponytail. ]

But money's money, and I figured you'd approve of this job more than some of the other gigs in town. I mean, I could've started stripping.
