Karla had done what she could in order to make her arrival in Seattle and the timing of Eddie's little plan seem as much like a coincidence as possible. She'd made plans with at least two different parties, and even agreed to meet Spider-Man for trick or treating later this evening. Of course, they'd just have to deal when she didn't show, but it wasn't like she really intended to attend any of them anyway.

There wasn't any hurry in arriving on the scene. After all, it was better to let the suspense build and show the police for just how incompetent they were against this kind of firepower. When the sirens went off, the helicopters and squad cars all arrived on the scene, and the first warning shot took out the Chevy though, Karla made her move.

Flying in from overhead, she fired her own warning shot, a photon blast just a few feet in front of the man holding the bazooka. However, after that, she ignored him and went after the first man, punching him hard in the chest, which sent him flying back into one of the squad cars, leaving a human-shaped dent in it. The next enemy, she let shoot a few rounds at her, moving her back into position in front of the wall, before blasting the second man, making this whole thing look easy.

Now she just needed the third guy to use the bazooka, and he sure as hell better not miss her.

It was a dreary way to spend Halloween, locked and confined in a small, cold holding cell. Darcy flipped her coin, not for answers but for something to focus her mind on. Her resources here were still lacking, she had no one here to bust her out of here. (Not that she was privy to.)

So her October 31st thus far involved staring ahead, eyes dark, awaiting a trial date.

The sound of commotion from outside broke her concentration. She cocked her head to one side, listening to what sounded like shouts -- gunfire -- even an explosion. She stood up, walking over to the bars of her cell and trying to get a look out the front door. When that was met with failure, she made for the small window.

Eddie observed the orderly chaos, amidst a gathering crowd. Police on scene were pushing at the crowd, trying to protect them with distance. The thug who dented a cop car was strapped away by on-site paramedics, and soon hauled away before rolling cameras and recording mobile phones. The whistle of a fired missile seared upwards, the bazooka's mouth aimed at Karla.

Screaming soured the air. People started to panic, and run. Another missile was loaded, pale and shaking hands fumbling with the weapon. Eddie moved back against his crowd, melding away.

It was a good thing that the thugs that Eddie had hired were at least somewhat competent and didn't waste any time shooting at her again. If the man with the bazooka had stalled, she couldn't have looked as caught off guard as she did at that moment.

She really hoped Darcy knew what was happening, or at least caught on quickly enough to stay away from the wall, and would get away as soon as it came down, because she wasn't going to be responsible for the woman's safety once after this. She would focus on the other thugs and hopefully the chaos would distract the cops, but if she couldn't escape when the opportunity arose, then this entire plan was a waste, save for the free publicity.

She turned "just in time" to see the missile coming, raising her hand up defensively as if in a reflex, but when the missile should have connected with her, instead it passed through harmlessly and, just as planned, took out the wall behind her, releasing the prisoners in the holding cells.

Karla didn't skip a beat, pushing of the ground and rushing the man with the bazooka, taking him down and creating a moment of opportunity where she could believably ignore the damage to the prison and the prisoners escaping.

As soon as the window had revealed what the ruckus outside was, Darcy indeed moved away from the wall, making a beeline for the far corner of the cell. She knew when to clear the area. Sure enough, within minutes she heard the incoming sound of a missile's approach, and crouched to protect her head.

The wall went with a bang, and after the dust cleared Darcy lowered her arms and stepped towards the hole that separated her from freedom. She pulled out her coin, flipping it and holding her breath.

Good heads. She ran.

The cameras were rolling hard, the on-site news crew boiling for a shot of Karla in action. Eddie mingled with the crowd, soaking in their reactions of horror and awe. They loved her, they loved this. In a world where superheroes were but a memory, incidents like this incited old feelings, nostalgia. Desire.

Hands in his pockets, he smirked at the artful dance with the missile. Perfect. He'd have to make a toast to Karla's inventiveness, she was quite impressive this evening. The crumbling precinct shook to its foundations, the smoke of the explosion rising high into the darkening sky.

More sirens were heard in the distance. Ambulances.

Karla had Eddie's minion, a man whose stark pale face betrayed a real fear. The poor bugger didn't even realize how lucky he was. Eddie took a step back as a few policemen edged closer to Karla, offering belated assistance with the crook, congratulating her.

Oh yes, thought Eddie, it would be a lovely evening tonight.
