I'm so late. I hope this is all right. orz will_end_you October 21 2010, 23:15:34 UTC
Since it seemed to be an unusually nice day, and the park was right next to the house that Dean was currently borrowing, he decided to take a walk. It was interesting how much he felt he appreciated the park today. He'd walked through it several times since he'd come to Seattle, but it just seemed...better today ( ... )

Crowley raised an eyebrow, but his smile was more or less friendly.

"No?" he said. "Well, it is a very nice day."

He looked at Dean curiously. It almost sounded like some kind of proposition, but the guy was obviously more suspicious than anything else.

A few of the ducks bobbed back to the surface, quacking bewilderedly.

"Yeah. Well..." Dean glanced over his shoulder as some of the ducks mysteriously surfaced. He frowned slightly and returned his attention to the...whatever it was that he was talking to. A demon, maybe? Or one of those people here that had strange abilities.

He gave the guy an irritated look, not quite managing a glare under the influence of whatever it was that had everybody so happy. "What are you?" Might as well cut straight to the chase. Just because Dean was in an oddly good mood today didn't mean he was going to let some duck sinking critter walk off easy.

"That's rather forward of you," said Crowley, although he didn't seem particularly annoyed by the question. Amused, if anything.

He smiled. "Who wants to know?"

Definitely not a human then. Since if he'd asked a human what they were, they would get defensive instead of calling him "forward" for assuming they were anything else. Probably a demon. Since Dean couldn't think of anything else that would just sit there and be amused while he questioned it.

"Is it? Sorry if I offended you." Although it was said in a way that indicated that he wasn't sorry at all. Sure this demon or whatever didn't seem to be harming anything, but Dean's patience level for the supernatural wasn't very high. Even on a day as nice as this one.

"Dean Winchester." There wasn't really much point in hiding it. If he actually was a demon he'd figure it out anyway. Unless he was from somewhere else, but that wasn't something Dean was worried about right now.

"I'm Anthony Crowley," he said, putting his hands in his pockets; Dean's name obviously meant nothing to him. "I'd say 'pleased to meet you too', but somehow I get the feeling you're not particularly pleased."

He looked out at the lake, where one duck was still struggling to remain afloat, and let it go. "Are we going to have a problem? I hope you're not one of those import-hating natives I keep hearing so much about."

Dean frowned down at the other man, not quite sure what to make of him. He was obviously something supernatural, but it didn't look like he would be owning up without further prodding. "Well, you'll have to forgive me if I'm not exactly thrilled to meet something that gets its thrills by drowning ducks." He glanced over at the pond where the ducks had resumed their normal activities, no longer struggling in some unseen grasp.

"No. You're an import then." That made sense. If Cas could come here, why couldn't a demon be brought here as well? "Guess we could have a problem if you've got issues with demon-hunting imports."

"Oh," said Crowley. "You think I'm a demon." He considered this for a moment or two. "I almost want to congratulate you on your perceptiveness, but, well, you're a demon hunter, and you know what they say - if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

He smiled, snakelike.

"I'd be a waste of your time, Mr. Winchester. There are worse things here than me by far."

Dean bristled slightly at Crowley's comment. The demon had hit the nail right on the head. Ever since coming here, Dean had suspected everyone that he'd met of being possessed. Unless they'd already been talking to Cas. But it was only logical. He didn't know what kind of fucked up things went on in this world.

"Should I have a go with the holy water, then? Just to be sure?" Dean reached into his pocket threateningly, but he didn't actually pull out the flask. It was still such a nice day, and Dean was feeling much more generous than usual. And there were worse things this demon could have been up to than bobbing a few ducks into a lake.

He gave Crowley a skeptical look, "Yeah? But they're not making themselves targets right now."

Behind his sunglasses, Crowley's eyes narrowed.

"I wouldn't, if I were you. Tell me, do you make a habit of going about threatening people?"

"Not generally." Dean answered truthfully in an almost conversational tone. He couldn't seem to hold onto his irritation for very long. "I'm more of a shoot first, ask questions later kind of hunter." Come to think of it though, Dean didn't know any hunters that weren't like that. He was really off his game today.

Dean pulled his hand out of his pocket, removing the imminent danger of the holy water. "You tell me why I shouldn't exorcise your ass straight back to Hell. Maybe right now you're just having a little fun with some ducks, but I'm sure you're got bigger fish to fry."

Crowley, allowing himself to relax a little now that it didn't seem he was about to be doused with holy water, raised an eyebrow.

"Actually, I don't," he said. "I'm not very ambitious. Couple of lovers' spats and a few people not feeling as guilty as they should do for not giving to charity and I'm good for the day." He gave Dean a brief, insincere smile. "Tell me, is there much call for demon hunters, where you come from?"

Dean frowned a little as the demon counted off his daily evil deeds. He'd never come across a demon with such "harmless" goals and he wasn't sure that he should even believe a word that Crowley said. But he guessed he could let all that slide for today.

"Yeah? That's it?" He pressed his mouth into a line as he considered Crowley's question. "Just hunters." Dean corrected. "And yeah. There's enough of a need." He gave the demon a slightly suspicious look, not sure why the question was important to him.

Crowley shrugged.

"I haven't heard of anyone in that line of work for rather a long time, that's all. Well," he corrected himself, thinking of Shadwell with an amused little grimace, "just the one, but he wasn't what you'd call effective. Sort of a relic, really."
