What I did last summer [er, Janufeb]

I am fond of caucuses!

Today I attended my first - I abstained from voting on a lot of the issues that I had absolutely no idea about - I put my vote in for Obama. So did about 7/10ths of my precinct and other precincts in the little middle school [oh that landscape! I actually adore it for some reason; the small chairs, the smell of those hallways, the dark cafeteria...]. I like the open forum and people coming together and sharing what they know and how they relate to the issues. There was one professor there who did a mini-lecture on genetically modified crops. She was incredible.

I feel good. And I couldn't have done it without Shannon and his fantastic vehicle [how the people in my life do rock]. There was even free vegan food there!

So now my bourgie white liberal gripes: 1) the school was in the middle of a predominantly latino neighborhood and yet I can count on one hand how many non-white and/or working class people were there 2) I had a hell of a time figuring out how to get out and vote - I can't imagine how people with families and 12-hour jobs and no vehicles and no social network could EVER find their way to the 'polls.' 3) people voted for measures [different name for them at this stage but I don't remember the jargon] without the slightest knowledge about their content.

I got to see Gregory on Sunday and learned how to tie a bow-tie. The evening was lovely lovely.

Just finished watching The Graduate [been watching A LOT of film lately] - I have to say that the movie is chilling. Absolutely chilling.

I am ready to go out again - dancing - gallivanting - causing general ruckus. I've been too much of a hermit lately. I crave the energy of strangers.

friends, desires for the future, joy joy joy joy down in my heart, film, voting, self-aware white bleeding heart liberal, politics, projections
