Hello blog-o-sphere it's time to spread the word and stop the airlines from tacking on another charge. United would like to add a $25 charge for checking a second bag if you buy a cheap ticket or if you don't have a high millage status.
What's next? They'll charge you for food?... wait, they already do that. They'll charge you for entertainment?... wait, they do that too. Maybe they'll charge you for bathroom access during the flight? The phenomenon is called un-bundling and it's a sneaky way to make money if you ask me. The airlines don't have to increase service or lower prices to get more business and thus make more money. They simply take a look at what they already do and take services they feel people will pay for out of the baseline and give them an artificial premium status.
It's true that United is only one airline however if there's no public outcry and they can show the others that there's been no significant loss of business you can bet that most other airlines will happily follow suit. Once again the airlines will penalize people like you and me who can't afford to fly business or first class. We're paying our own way when we travel.
