And his neck fascinates me. It perfectly fits the description of "wacky and weird" in how long it is, but yet how beautiful it is. Actually, it realllllyyy reminds me of the famous bust of Nefertiti -- which did the exact same thing with her neck, and it was gorgeous then, too. His shoulders and upper arm are really nice, too -- but his forearm and hand get kind of into a sticky area. The arm doesn't seem to be in quite the right angle for the position to make sense -- it feels like it's simultaneously trying to retreat advance. I'd say it would make the most sense if it just came out with foreshortening. And the hand, I think, most certainly needs more definition. Fingernails at least! Because it's oddly cartoonish for this picture (far moreso than Claude is).
Okay! I've only got to more things to say: 1) Peter and Claude seem to be . . . at a somewhat odd angle. Like, they don't look like they're actually looking at each other -- mostly because Claude is in a pure profile while Peter isn't. And if you turned Claude that teeny tiny bit, it would also make him more dynamic. And 2) the door that Mohinder's behind seems to be at a slightly slightly odd angle. It looks like it's closed, except that it's slightly creaked open. But I suck at perspective, so I'm not quite sure how to fix it. And the rest of the perspective in this picture is aboslutely L-O-V-E-L-Y, with the cabinets, so . . .
So! That was my annoyingly picky analysis. I lovelovelove this picture (as should be obvious considering I wrote this thing TWICE) and I hope that what I said is at least a little helpful to you. Um . . . Yesyesyes, and that's all that I can think of to say, so -- this picture is beautiful, if imperfect. But what art isn't imperfect? Seriously. ♥♥♥
(Oh! And I've got to add that I stared at your livejournal title for five minutes, thinking to myself, "God, I know that phrase!" I couldn't figure it out and then a few hours later, I started singing, "My name is blue canary -- one word L-I-T-E!" and I just went AHA! So, yes -- They Might Be Giants are awesome opossum! =D)

I knew there were lots of things not quite right, as there always seems to be, but I could never have pinpointed exactly *what.* But what you're saying makes sense - now I remember in the beginning of last year talking about how eye directions make movement in a piece. That'll teach me not to daydream so dang much. xD Wow, that's something I don't think I've ever really thought about when I'm drawing, and something I'll definitely take into consideration from now on.
Ahhh, you're right about the cartoony-ness as well. I kind of noticed that, but thought no one else would, for some... unknown... reason. xP I think part of why Claude was so cartoony is I didn't have a good reference for him, and the reference I did have, the lighting was different from the Peter reference, so I tried to change it. Er.... :[
Haha, now that you mention it, Peter and Claude's positions are kind of like an optical illusion. It doesn't seem like it should make sense, maybe if you blur your eyes... :P
These suggestions are just really, really fantastic. How do you know all this stuff?? Sounds like you've got this *down.* ;D This was not "annoyingly picky" at all, I'm extremely grateful you took the time! And I've already been using some of your suggestions in my doodles. :]
THANK YOU!!! <3
Haha, and I shrieked a little when I read this last part - someone else knows TMBG! I can die happy. :D Make a little birdhouse in your soul....
